Nigeria’s External Reserves Hit $45.98bn by Nobody: 9:39pm On Feb 04, 2013
The nation’s external reserves reached a total of $45.98 billion on January 31.

According to the latest data provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the new figure represented an increase of 2.84 per cent over the preceding figure of $45.91 billion published on January 30.

The external reserves grew by 34.76 per cent in 2012 to over $44 billion and have continued the upward trend in 2013 as oil prices rise at the international market. However they fell below the Federal Government’s $50 billion target set for 2012.

Meanwhile, the naira, on Friday, appreciated by 0.2 kobo or 0.12 per cent against the United States (US) dollar at interbank market, closing at N157.20 per dollar as against N157.40/$ on Wednesday, data from Financial Markets Dealers Association (FMDA) indicated.

This development was attributed to the improvement on inflow of $69 million sales from oil firm.

At the Bureau de Change (BDC) market segment, the naira went for N157 against the dollar.

The apex bank sold $120 million at a foreign currency auction, on Wednesday, at N155.74, the lowest in three auctions.

Our external reserves has never gone up more than 45 billion. If you have any data to buttress your claim, then show it.

How has this so-called foreign reserve helped in improving the living condition of the governed . This government is very notorious in brandishing Oluwole kind-of-scrambled figures to hoodwink the masses.

Haha. Your concerns are valid though.
The reserves haven't affected the price of foodstuffs in the market (especially garri grin)

Its not as if government did anything special, we've just been lucky that the prices of crude oil in the international market remains high and our production is relatively stable. The bottom line is how the reserve will not be squandered by a profligate government and thieving governors.

Actually it has. During the re class of the Naira where CBN had to fix the naira at N160, they used the reserve to buffer + when the Naira was losing against the $$$, CBN dipped into the reserve as well. That is why the reserve dropped significantly.

This money will make much sense if it's used to improve our country... I wonder when our govt will be proactive and accountable enough to make amends.

Hmm! Come to think of it, what if oby ezekwesili's data were not "factual" as claimed by maku. The truth is before we pitch our tent with the obj/oby's camp, we should ask ourselves why oby has not come out to tell us the source of her data. We shouldn't keep cheering all anti-GEJ even when we know their claim may be false.
GEJ is a retard, slow-poke call him whatever you want, the fact is that his administration isn't as bad we we all paint it, there are some positivities in his numerous negativities. . . afterall YOU all voted for him
