You are wrong... It has a very special purpose buh the problem lies in the mis-conception people are having about it nowadays. People have turned it to something else, especially the young people who barely know the paramount reason for celebrating it...

If you can have a special day for celebrating christmas, sallah and the likes, I see no reason why Val's day should be an exception (cause love is what binds every other things together).. It is not as if one is restricted to show love just on this day, but its an avenue or rather a window of opportunity to reach out to people you fail to reach out to on a regular day. And that is why, it shouldn't be restricted to one's immediate loved ones as that would defeat the fundamental purpose of celebrating it. Did you catch my drift?

Well... The authenticity of the reality behind the celebration is not what I am really after, but rather the significance of the day...

What I know of Saint Valentine is different from what you just brought to the fore. But be it as it may, I believe what happened to him was of his own accord but was borne outta love. That is, the essence of the celebration, is of sincere and sacrificial love for another.. And since love knows no bounds as to whom it can be given, but at the same time its not given to people that are not close to us, that is why I see it as a day we should seize to make sure we touch the life or lives as the case may be of someone or people...

So, I am really after the significance of the day and not really about the story as the story depicts love and nothing more in which ever way or version of the story you must have heard.
