Fashola Recommends N1m Salary For NPL Players by supereagle(m): 5:58am On Feb 19, 2013 |
Governor of Lagos State Mr Babatunde Fashola has said if given the mandate, he will suggest as much as N1million minimum wage for local league players. Fashola revealed his ambitious wish for the local stars while hosting the victorious Super Eagles players at his office in the Ikeja, Lagos. According to the widely touted sports loving governor, the league if properly run and floated on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, will be able to generate more than enough money to cater for such payment. “To our players in the local league I wish I can write a minimum wage for you, if you ask me I don’t think any player that plays professional football in our league should earn less than N1m a month minimum,” Fashola said. “It is possible if the right people sit down and put the framework there. We have a stock exchange that is big, I am ready to help, my colleagues are ready to help and there are so many people that would get involved if the right frame work is there.” Fashola went on to call for the overhauling of the leadership of the League as he reckoned that the chairman of the league should be a private CEO working with club owners who are funding their teams with their money arguing that they will make a better board than presently constituted http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/sports/item/5601-fashola-recommends-n1m-salary-for-npl-players |

donmatin: if only oda governors cud support dis movement den we wnt av 2 be splashing all d cash we did wen we won afcon.dis boys av talent. Are you saying its okay to splash super eagles with state funds just because we are not paying our local players N1 million? Fashola's idea seems okay to me...though its claerly born out of his love for soccer and nothing else. Other governors reserve the right not to buy into such idea given that such idea can only go further to enrich a few individuals at the expence of the general public. This is a private business and should be treated as such. |

How much is minimum wage of civil servants in Lagos state ? Paying bunch of drop out 1 million then how much will you pay a prof. I will not be opposed to this if they have real entertainment value but due to lack of it we are glued to EPL. Nigerian league should first sell itself before others invest in it. Why should I invest in a bad product that cannot even quarter full there stadiums I respect Fashola but he got it wrong on this one 5 Likes |

Now Fashola is campaigning for Local palyers to be paid 1M monthly, fine , there is no problem about that, we all have forgotten that this same man refused to pay Doctors what ever they agreed last year. Good riddance if i may say. 2 Likes |

The issue is partly a lack of leadership, lack of structure and ofcourse a lack of commercialization. Infact 1 million is rather too small if Lagos can get a championship winning team. As prescribed here https://www.nairaland.com/701628/commercializing-nigerian-premier-league-like |

Abegi!Make Fashola respect himself o. Make una ask am how many civil servants for Lagos dey collect N1m per annum . I didn't say per month o,I mean per annum . Then you will know if he's sincere or he's just being hypocritical . Moreover, the structure of football in Nigeria for now will not allow any right-thinking person to pump in megabucks with all the mess they have there. If we are really serious, first government must hands-off totally from our football and allow professionals do the job |

anoda misendervour of our lagos state governor Fashola. Pls ask this man, if he wants to insult GEJ. So if GEJ earns 1 mil a month, our local league foootball players will earn the same, eh! |
