HISTORY OF IWO LAND NIGERIA Iwo is a town in the Osun state of Nigeria. The city is 6 miles from the Iwo station on the Lagos Kano railroad. Iwo in Nigeria is situated at the intersecti on of roads from Oyo, Ibadan and Ogbomosho. Iwo Nigeria was establishe d in the 16th or 17th century. The main production of most of the Nigeria cities including Iwo are cocoa and cotton textiles. Iwo yields its economy from cotton textiles and cocoa production . However the production rates are quite high and the economy is thus quite stable. Iwo was the capital of the Yoruba kingdom in the 17th century and the city developed when many refugees from Yoruba came to settle in Iwo after the civil wars of 19th century. From 1890s to 1960s Iwo was under the British rule, which did develop the city to some extent. The city is quite old but however the developmen t have definitely improved the condition of the city in all possible ways and means. People. The people are primarily of Yoruba descent, and are predominan tly Muslims. The towns primary economic activity is agricultur e with the primary crops being cocoa, yams, corn, cassava, and palm oil however textiles are an important economic activity as well. Education. Among the major secondary schools are the Iwo Grammar School, the United Methodist High School, the Baptist High School, St. Mary's High School, the L.A. Commercial Grammar School,Isl ahudeen Grammar School and the Anwar-ul-I slam Grammar School as well as several others. Higher Institutio ns: BOWEN University and Wolex Polytechni c Baptist Teachers' Training College was located at Oke Odo in Iwo, but this facility is now used as the campus of Bowen University . Another institutio n in Iwo is Shariah College of Nigeria, which used to be in Ibadan before it was relocated to its permanent site at Oke- Afo, Iwo. Notable people in this town include Salinsiles , Aremus, and The Bobakeye Of Ola land Chief Yomi Ogunsola and Chief (Mrs) Yemi Ogunsola - Yeye Bobakeye of Ola land, Chief Adebayo Aremu (SAN) Otunba Of Iwoland, Chief Ogundokun, Alh. Fatai Akinbade, Alh. Liadi Tella, Barrister Gbadegeshi n (SAN), Chief Oloya, The IWILADE family, The Fajinmi's family. Among the major private secondary schools are Islamic Model College,Mu slim Internatio nal School,Agb aje Momerial Comprensiv e College,Ai pate Baptist School,Vic o-Hope Comprensiv e College,A- 1 Grammer School, Crowey Schools, Regina Mundi Girls Secondary School, and Our Lady of Fatima. |

And now the tussle begins for another Oluwo. I had my respect for the late Oluwo for his humane nature, but in addition to these qualities I hope the town settles for a renowned king this time around so that the town can regain her rightful position in Osun and Yoruba land as a whole. i think late Prince Alade Lamuye was a king the town never had. May their gentle souls both RIP. |

Silenced the Mujahideens that placed 'welcom to the islamic town of iwo), reconciled them with the Egungun pple! And gave an enabling environment for the Xtians and bowen!! He is a great man!!
