How to Moderate a Nairaland Forum

Duplicate Threads
1. If a thread is posted by the same person more than once, then this is spam. Move the duplicate thread(s) to the recycle bin.
2. If two or more topics are similar and posted by different people, then do not delete or lock any of the threads. Instead, link them to each other.
3. If two or more threads are opened on the same topic, even if different words are used, then lock the newer thread or the thread with the most comments after cross-linking.
a. If the older thread is over 12 months old, then do not lock the newer thread.

Wrong-Section Threads & Spam

1. If a thread is posted in the wrong section, then move it to the appropriate section.
a. Check the appropriate section for threads on the topic. If there are none, then move the topic. If there is a thread on the topic, then lock the thread in your section if it is newer or shorter than the other thread.
2. If a thread contains only a link, mark it as “Spam”.
3. If a thread is incorrectly marked as “Spam” by the spambot, unmark it by clicking “not spam”.


DO NOT
-create a new rule without informing the administrator
-lock threads because they’re stupid. Stupidity is not a crime. Try renaming the threads or adding to them if possible
-abuse your power. This goes without saying.
