How can a whole plane with passangers go missing in Nigerian airspace without a trace?

The last time a plane went missing, it was found a few days later in the bush with passangers dead, weak, and dehydrated.

So the question is, why don't they put one of those GPS devices on these planes?

Apart from a UFO coming to pluck the aircraft out of our airspace, where else could an airplane be without being located by a satellite?

The more passangers remain 'undiscovered' after a crash, the less their chances of survival. The shame is watching politicians carry on as if they know what they're doing while injured crash passangers await to be 'discovered' by wild dogs and hyenas.

Missing aircraft, a national embarrassment – Senate
By John Alechenu, Abuja
Published: Wednesday, 19 Mar 2008
The Senate on Tuesday described the inability of relevant government agencies to locate an aircraft four days after it went missing from Nigerian air space, as a national embarrassment.

It mandated its committee on aviation to investigate the matter and report back to the Senate for legislative action.

The decision followed a point of order raised by Senator Ayim Ude. Ude relied on the provisions of Order 42 bordering on issues of urgent national importance, to draw the attention of his colleagues tothe latest developments on the issue.

An obviously disappointed President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, said, “That for four days we don’t know what has happened to the aircraft is a shame and embarrassment to this nation.

“In a serious country somebody from the aviation industry should have thrown in the towel. It is a serious issue that we cannot trivialise.”

Earlier, while moving the motion, Ude said, “It is still a developing story. What happened is that some villagers reported to the local government chairman that they saw a low flying aircraft and the chairman, without going to verify the claim, reported to the state governor.

“And the governor reported to Abuja , but when the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency officials went to the site, nothing was found. That was how the story changed.”

Senator Smart Adeyemi said facilities for emergency search and rescue should be put in place and people should be bold enough to take responsibility when they err.

Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba recalled that when the Belleview aircraft crashed about two years ago there was also a misinformation that it landed in Ibadan.

He said it was sad that agencies which should know were relying on “villagers and local government chairmen” for information they should be giving.

Sen David MarkThe Senate yesterday lamented the inability of officials of agencies under the aviation arm of the Federal Ministry of Transportation to ascertain the location of the Trade Wings Aviation Beechcraft plane that went missing on Saturday morning.

Minister for State for Aviation Mr. Felix Hassan Hyet and officials of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were all blamed for failing to locate the aircraft four days after it disappeared from radar screens.

Senate President David Mark described the Nigerian aviation sector as "not serious enough" after their failure to locate the missing plane. He said, "If it were to be in a serious country, somebody would have come in to throw in the towel by now. We have not heard

anybody in the aviation ministry throwing in the towel. I think that is embarrassing."

Mark added, "For four days, if we don’t know where the aircraft is by now, then it is embarrassing. We cannot locate an aircraft missing for four days, that is not good enough for this nation."

NCAA had reported on Sunday evening that the plane was found at Igabu Village in Yala local government area of Cross River State. The agency claimed that the three crew members on board the aircraft all died in the crash and gave their names as Augustine Egbedin, Capt. Tanko and a female named Fuberata A.

However, the day after the NCAA disclosure, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation Senator Anyim Ude told the Senate that the aircraft was still missing and no wreckage was found at the purported crash site.

Senator Ude said, "Twenty-four hours later, the plane is still missing. A NEMA official visited the area and saw no wreckage of the aircraft. More than six aircraft have been combing the area for more than six hours, but the plane is still missing."

Commenting, Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw called on the federal government to sack officials in the aviation ministry responsible for locating the missing aircraft. He said: "Every time there is a serious problem NEMA officials sit in their offices distributing pamphlets. That is not good. They should all be sacked because they are irresponsible in what they are doing."

Deputy Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN) berated officials of relevant aviation agencies who made the announcement regarding the plane crash, saying, "The Chief Executives of NAMA, NCAA and FAAN should have visited the site of the crash before going on air. A situation where we have to rely on a Local Government Chairman and the State Governor to get location of a missing aircraft is embarrassing."

On his part, Senator Ayogu Eze said there was the possibility of the plane being hijacked, saying, "That was why we passed a resolution urging operators in the aviation sector to equip their aircraft with the locator device."

The Senate therefore directed its aviation committee to remain alert on the matter and liaise with relevant government agencies to unravel the mystery behind the missing aircraft.

While alerting the Senate on his committee’s desire to conduct full public hearing into alleged financial scam in the sector, Senator Ude said his committee will remain in touch with relevant agencies to help locate the missing aircraft.

The aircraft was on its way to Obudu Cattle ranch in Cross River State and was hired to convey Governor Liyel Imoke to Abuja, where he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Power and Steel which is probing the $16 billion spent on the power sector, without results, during the Obasanjo era.

Nigeria is a country full of evil manipulations and occultic members in government. All these happening are as a result of our evil leaders sacrifices. Its only God that will deliver us all.
Re: Plane Disappears Without A Trace? by naijaking1: 10:22pm On Mar 19, 2008
You really think that the plane disappeared because of the sacrifices of evil leaders?

If aviation officials had insisted on putting a monitoring device on every plane after the first incident, we might not have been in this situation now.

I still find it hard to believe that a whole plane can disappear like that. I am waiting to read news that this was all a mistake.

A retired airforce officer was saying on AIT that Nigeria only has one functional Radar in Lagos not even sure the one in Abuja is working. It has nothing to do with cultism. There are so many blind spot in the Nigeria air space and the fund for total radar coverage has been "misappropriate". Saying is cultism is ignorance, air crafts are supposed to carry emmergency beep device that send out a beep for the satellite to pick up during a crash, it can even be received by Spain or canada but this is usually not on the airlines in this country. Our leaders keeps telling us lies. Now they are jumping from pillar to post looking for airplane as if its a needle.

Bellview crashed 3 minutes from the airport in portharcourt, a few years back and a Whole minister of aviation got on a plane and headed to Oshogbo to look for the plane. Why? the control tower was not manned and no device to pin poit airdrafts location.

Even common sense was missing, as any right thinking minister will know that know plane will be in oshogbo 3 mins after take off. ineptitude!!!!!!!! sad

That's a common mistake. Don't compare experimental and military planes with commercial passanger planes. Experimental and military planes either don't have the call signal or the usual GPS devices that are supposed to be on passenger planes.

It's not a commercial plane I don't think.

The only thing that could solve these problems are mandatory regulations for all aircraft in the country.

LOL!!!!!!!!! Nigeria will not kill me!
One radar? shocked shocked shocked
No manning of the Control Tower? shocked shocked shocked shocked

I suspected that those control towers were for decoration. Now I know for sure.

How can a whole plane go missing?
Its size is too massive for that kind of excuse.

These Aviation ministers don't even give a crap. All they do is siphon the money into their accounts. They should think about how this relates to the international links. It's just sad that they treat these things this way. I mean - i'm kinda shocked about it.

It takes them days to find planes - how on earth are they supposed to have rescue services in time for this?
We're doomed!
