Maku Attacks Fashola, Says Lagos Governor Has “something To Hide” By Rejecting “ by truth4meal(m): 10:05pm On Mar 01, 2013
The Good Governance Tour team said ACN governors have “something to hide.”
For the second time in one week, the Labaran Maku-led ‘Good Governance Tour’ team has hit out at a state governor who criticised the project.
On the occasion of his 2,100th day in office, Babatunde Fashola, the Lagos State Governor, had described the tour as “an attempt to appear busy” because the federal government “have no project to inspect.”
Mr. Fashola’s statement fell in line with his party man and Edo State counterpart, Adams Oshiomhole, who turned down the tour team’s request that the state provide feeding and accommodation “as agreed.”
In a statement, Friday, the team said it viewed the Lagos Governor’s utterance “with concern and deep regret” because the federal government has a huge stake in the governance of Lagos State.
“Governor Fashola should be appreciative of the Federal Government because far more than other states, the entire Lagos State like Abuja, runs on Federal Government infrastructure and services and Fashola knows that the Federal Government is doing a lot to keep Lagos State moving,” Samuel Ajayi, the Coordinator National, Good Governance Tour, said in the statement.
The Good Governance Tour, led by Mr. Maku, the Information Minister, began in September last year, with Abuja hosting the inaugural event.
With over 100 delegates comprising of state officials, journalist, civil groups, and nongovernmental organizations, the team intends to visit all states to highlight federal and state government projects.
However, the tour, which has seen Mr. Maku and his team visit 15 states across the North-central, South-East and the South-South Geo-political Zones, has continued to elicit criticisms from some Nigerians.
Something to hide
Last week, Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, labelled the tour “a big scam.”
“I am happy that Oshiomhole told the leader of the Good Governance Tour, Labaran Maku, to go to hell,” said Mr. Soyinka, throwing his weight behind the Edo State Governor.
Both Messrs. Oshiomhole and Fashola belong to the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria.
Mr. Ajayi referred to this in the statement, insinuating that the governors have skeletons hidden.
“It is obvious that Governors of a certain partisan persuasion are nervous about the impending tour of their states,” the statement continued.
“This clearly demonstrates that they have something to hide. If not, why are they afraid of the tour of projects in their states?”
The statement further reiterated that the tour is non-partisan and that all the 36 state governors were part of the planning.
“It must be shocking to all who are familiar with how the Tour was conceived, and is being implemented, that it has taken Governor Fashola nearly six months to dissociate the Lagos State Government from the Tour,” the statement read.
“For the records, Lagos State was duly represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on the committee set up by the Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, to ratify the template for the Tour.
“The final framework was approved by all state Governors without exception.”

The only thing Fashola is hiding from these con men is the big fat envelope with Lagos state taxpayers money.

The highlighted part draws attention to Fashola's (and ACN's) penchant for playing to the gallery. Why did they not raise objections at the NGF when the idea was tabled? Why did they approve the framework? What is the sense in purporting to publicly condemn and ridicule an initiative that you had previously approved in private?

And by the way, Soyinka is beginning to lose credibility. We know he has been shamelessly collecting monthly stipends from Tinubu, and shamelessly lobbied for his son to be appointed commissioner under Amosun's ACN government. It is therefore not surprising that he 'coincidentally' agrees with the ACN's views on every issue.

This is what Fashola does best - a CHAMELEON.

This is exactly the same thing he did in the subsidy debate, he endorsed the removal only to come back later to condemn the govt after the shitt hit the fan. If you can't trust a man with his own words, he changes his mouth and stance almost opposite, then it's a serious problem.

This "GEJ democrats" are a curse on democracy.
You would think Fashola stopped him from going around Lagos with his silly jamboree.

There are only three things he should not expect:
1. No 10s of million Naira of Lagos taxpayer money for his already bloated pocket.
2. He must not expect to be able to around taking pictures or videos of Fashola's projects, and making it look like GEJ's
3. He must not expect Fashola to following him around on his jamboree trip.

Otherwise, Mr. Maku, welcome to Lagos.
And stop talking like you are some investigator.

If the good governance tour team that went to delta, abia and bayelsa state has nothing to say other than praising the governor for excelent and progressive job they have done, how they have provided infracstructures, jobs, roads etc to their peaple, why won't working gorvernors reject it as sensless and propaganda tour. Had akala and oyinlola still be the governor of OYO and OSUN STATE good governace tour team would still have praises 4 them.

So if the state governor refuse to spend money on GGT, that mean they have something to hide.
If they know where federal govt project are located in lagos, they shld go there and inspect it, just like how they did that of edo state.
Must a state governor be following LABARAAN MAKU around inspecting those project, just like how other state governor had done.
Afterall labaran will say governor fashola is working after the whole tour, just the way he praise delta state and the rest.
And i don't think fashola need someone like labaraan maku to praise him. I think fashola knows better than labaran maku, when it comes to project.

I am not bothered by the war of words, trading blames and counter blames between Maku and some governors. Our political leaders are known to sometimes make decisions without critically thinking it through, Fashola and Oshilmhole erred in this respect, cos they ought to have known that such exercise wlld always veer off into the arena politics, especially the politics of scoring their party by a political adversary! The exercise was specifically designed to serve the interest of the PDP governors, who due to lack of popularity and media attention were perceived to be mannequins ie idle and completely motionless governors!

On the issue of whether the tour is a well conceived or an ill-conceived idea is debatable. For me, I believe it is ill-conceived cos the intention of those who packaged it was to give Nigerians the impression that government is working, and in reality it is not so! If the team believes the best way to access the performance of governors is to embark on juicy and properly teleguided inspection of selected and predetermined projects, some of which are white elephant projects that have no relevance or value to the people, and meanwhile recklessly spending public funds for such jamboree, I will not blame Fashola or any other governor for opting out of the arrangement!
