It was a moving scene. In the bathroom, the clung to each other. They were probably desperately seeking a way to escape the fire that gutted their home. They did not make it. Husband and wife were burnt to death.

Nobody knows how the mystery fire started yesterday in the palatial home of the Mr. And Mrs. Boniface Ndubuisi. Sympathisers only came and met the bodies of the multi-billionaire couple, who just returned home from abroad, in the bathroom of their 2, Arinze Lane, off Okolo Street, American Quarters, Onitsha, Anambra State home.

The building was said to have been razed before fire fighters could gained access into the compound. The couple’s valuables, worth billions of naira, reportedly went with the fire.

In a tension-soaked atmosphere yesterday, tongues wagged over the likely cause of the fire.

An eyewitness could not fathom how and where the fire started in the one-storey building, but confirmed that it started about 4am.

The couple, The Nation learnt, had six children; three in America, two in Abuja and one in Lagos.

The eyewitness said the couple’s bodies were found inside their bathroom, clinging unto each other.

The Divisional Police Officer, Onitsha Central Police Station, Mr Tope Fasugba has visited the scene with his men. He said the incident is being investigated.

The police, it was learnt, have taken the bodies to the morgue in Onitsha.

Many blamed the incident on power surge from Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Fire fighters strived to prevent the fire from spreading to other compounds.

God!!! Life is just one small thing, just like that husband and wife died? MayGod grant the children and their family members the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. So so sad.

As there is a paradise on earth as in heaven, there seems to be hell also on earth.
Couple died in an inferno clung together!
Could it be somebody came to rob these couple and set the house ablazed after killing the couple?
This incidence still baffles me!

May they RIP. But this is the problem with crime in this country. In trying to curb crime, we put up buglary proof, which keep out the criminals but also keep us from escaping in times of trouble. Imagine not surviving fire in a one story buiding? Too sad.

Which kind of kuru kere story is this.Y wud dey b clinging to each oda in d bathroom wen d house was on fire.Any family involved in a fire luk for ways out,possibly,but not usually together(bc each member tries to find an outlet wt d hope of den alerting other members once one is fd).Death frm fire usually arises frm d smoke inhalation,whc usually happens suddenly& while likely trying to find an escape route.So frm d report it implies dis couple just went to d bathroom,knew dey wud die& without any attempt to cheat death,clung to each oda,fat chance!
Its either d story was a conjecture frm d reporter's imagination(most likely) or it ddnt happen as depicted!

May their souls rest in peace. But this is a wake up call for us all to strive to get a smoke detector in our homes or check their batteries regularly. It could give you some valuable escape time by detecting the onset of smoke and making a loud beeping sound that wakes you up and allows you to escape the house. They are also affordable costing no more than N2,000 including batteries.

I can only pray the perished from smoke inhalation before they were burned, Very sad indeed.

They probably have barricaded their house like high security jail with no thought for fire escape.

Seems like murder with the fire used to cover-up traces of evidence. They're rich so its got to be a large house with various wings and escape routes.

FXKing2012: Hmnnn....they lost their lives and properties worth billions of naira to the inferno all in one day...hope they didnt acquire the properties in a dubious way thus bad Karma catching up with them.
