Today‘s topic is ‘Being Children of God‘. We are children of God and any person can be a child of God through Jesus Christ the son of God. He is God‘s only beloved son sent to the world to reveal to the world what God looks like and stand for, and to make us know what He requires of man: which is to live righteously, love others and reference God in one‘s deeds. Living as a child of God means that one‘s life will at all times give glory to God. This can be achieved when a believer determines to live as Christ lived on earth: in total obedience to the will of God; living to be steadfast in faith, fulfilling self-controlled, righteous and godly living.

Further still it is a type of life that sets a believer free from sin - disobedience to God‘s law. A child of God must be growing spiritually and never give in to temptation. Also, a child of God must show sacrificial love to all, the kind of love showed by Jesus that he laid down his life for man. But in what way is this expected from a child of God? It is through personal and sincere sacrifice to help others - a child of God must not shut up his bowels of compassion, must not love in tongue and words but rather in deeds and truth.

If a child of God shows this kind of love definitely his deeds will not be wicked. A practical demonstration of this is shown in the way offerings of Abel and Cain were acceptable to God. Abel was noted as a righteous man from his deeds in the sight of God and his offerings were accepted whereas Cain was wicked and his offerings were not accepted. As Jesus revealed it to us what you offer to God will be a demonstration of how mindful you are to meet needs of others and how you really love them. There is danger in showing hatred. Jesus warns: Matthew 5:21-24: 21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:

A child of God will feel a sense of belonging to God when he is qualified in all good manners, then his conscience will be clear and the heart will rest assure in God that his prayers shall be backed with authority and answered. Walking with God in all good manners gives us hope that we shall finally be like Him through His son that will deliver us unto Him. How will this be? This shall be possible through glorious transformation by the power of God.

As I said some weeks back that no matter how tight my schedule might be I would find time to attend a Sunday school class and learn the lesson of the week. Despite the tight schedule I found time to attend a Church outside my base and I gained this to share from the Sunday school lesson.

The topic is ‘Living Hope‘. This is basic hope of being a Christian and it is upon it that eternal life through Jesus is built. Christians living hope should be built on how to view challenges and what to expect from them. Challenges can come in various ways but we have to view them as test of faith especially when they question our standing for the will of God. These challenges can stand as persecution, difficulty against success, sickness and many others. It is known that when a Christian is not strong enough in faith and faced with some challenges he can easily loose hope. But what makes a Christian to master the troubles and build up a living hope is resolution to walk firmly with Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. He faced similar persecution and endured greater suffering than what we have passed through but he was at all times up for victory.

If it was possible for Jesus to overcome all persecution for good of prosecutors yet without rebuking them and pass through difficult situations, and still encouraging people to be heavenly minded we too can do likewise. Therefore it has been shown to us that all troubles will last for a moment and then eternal joy will be revealed. We should remember the roles of blood of Jesus that paid the price of our salvation and as such we should not allow anything to subdue our living hope or threaten our salvation. All troubles should be considered as a threat to salvation or test of faith and all we need is continuing with Christ and being filled with the hope that we will overcome at the end. A Christian passing through persecution is likened to gold that is being tested with fire to remove all impurities for its best to come out. This is how a child of God should view challenges, he must always look towards eternal gains that will eventually come.

Today’s lesson is ‘Grow through God’s word’. We are made to understand that as a new born babe desires fresh milk from the mother likewise we children of God should desire milk of the word i.e. word of God for us to grow in all aspects as a complete human being that can perfectly walk with God. The word of God is living and provides all we need as Christians to grow mentally and spiritually. The word is also supportive to our physical development in terms of what we eat and drink so that we do not corrupt good manner in us. We should not just read the word we must apply the truth of the scripture for our spiritual growth, the Bible is the only book that establishes this truth without compromise.
We cannot grow in the word of God if we do not find time to meditate on it daily. We should place much importance to the word by devoting significant part of our time to it, it should be the time we are not much occupied with the other daily activities, and should be regarded as very important time to honour God by reading through His word, by extension we can say part of “10%” our time to honour and rejoice before God. The time to do this may vary among people according to how individual finds it convenient to do so: early in the morning, afternoon or before going to sleep.

The time devoted to reading through the word is worth it cos love of God towards us is revealed, protection from enemies and progress at the difficult time will surely come by placing our confidence in the truth of the word. Reading the word of God brings one closer to Him thereby making it so easy to receive revelations from Him. The word of God is spiritual nourishment we must long for to make us grow in Him, purify our lives and to stay in obedience to His command.

If we truly keep the word of God in our hearts and allow Holy Spirit to guide us our lives will be transformed completely and we shall be able to experience His salvation. How we receive the word of God to stay in our hearts is very important. Jesus illustrated different ways by which people receive word of God: People’s attitude to the word of God is likened to the seeds spread by a sower, some fell on the road side (trampled and nothing again about it); some fell upon a rock (grew for a while and then withered and died); some fell among the thorns, they were overgrown and choked by the thorns; some fell on good ground where they sprang up and yielded hundred folds.

How do we ensure that word of God is established on the good ground of our lives is by honestly keeping the word in our hearts and living in obedience by it. Lesson texts: 1Peter 1:22 thru 2:3; Psalm 119: 145-152; Luke 8: 4-15

Today‘s topic is ‘Pentecostal Experience Continues‘. The Pentecost reminds us of the pouring of Holy Spirit onto the believers whenever they gather in unity in the name of Jesus to worship God. It was first experienced by the disciples and other believers when they obeyed Christ command to stay and pray at Jerusem in the day of coming and manifestation of Spirit of God as promised by Jesus before his death. You will remember He said that after He had been with the Father and glorified in Him, He would pray the Father to send another comforter which is the Holy Spirit, the promise of the Father, and the Spirit of truth. It is stated that God would send His Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus and it is He that will continue to teach us all things and bring them to our remembrance whatsoever Christ taught people while on earth.

What make us Christians is living for the glory of God through manifestation of His Spirit. To fulfil this purpose is not an easy task cos the enemy is out and trying to enforce satanic influence on people thus robbing them God‘s grace of salvation. We can not on our own struggle with this influence and conquer it without the backing of the Spirit of God. The Spirit comes with the authority and power to enable us stand as childten of God and ministers of the gospel of Jesus. On the day of Pentecost and thereafter disciples‘ ministry received power and authority with which they reached out to perform miracles of healing and deliverance. In the face of opposition and persecution the disciples forged ahead spreading the Gospel in the name of Jesus, and ensuring that the gate of hell shall not prevail over the plan of God for salvation of human souls.

What makes our ministry unique and powers it to deliver what God requires of us is summarised by this command of Christ, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost“. He further stated that he that believes and is baptized shall be saved, and that in His name those who believe shall overcome evils, Mark 16:16-20.

Holy Spirit baptism is for all regardless of background cos God‘s gift of salvation and the blessings that follow is for all. Holy Spirit is available for believers at salvation. He establishes and builds believer‘s relationship with God, makes them holy, enables them to live for God and to be powerful witnesses of Christ. After receiving Holy Ghost Baptism, water baptism should immediately follow it, Acts 10:47. This tells us that salvation is complete by both water Baptism and Holy Spirit Baptism: water baptism takes care of repentance, a reminder to say no to sin, and for the newness of life while Holy Ghost baptism takes care of other aspects: to receive the power needed to overcome evil, and to be successful in the ministry and service to God and others. Today’s topic is ‘Grow through Prayer’. Just like our modern day life is characterized by what makes us always get connected and conveniently linked with others on daily basis our prayer life serves as a connection between us and God. As we make our calls through to someone to get something we must make it a necessity to pray and make prayer a priority to present our petitions and requests to God in order to tap from His blessings for our good. Prayer is more than what we need to take care of physical needs. There is much to the spiritual aspects our lives. After getting ourselves connected with God we need to grow spiritually to observe and keep what God wants to be part and parcel of our lives for doing His will.

Do not allow demands on your time to rob your precious time for prayers. Copying from example of Jesus He never allow demands on time to deny Him time of prayer. He would go out from morning to evening attending to the needs of people and teaching them the way of God still He would find precious time to pray to the heavenly Father. While demands on time seem to occupy our time of prayer all we need is divine strength and wisdom to stay connected with the Father and keep going with Him in spirit through our prayers. Every believer must develop the ability to spend time alone with God (Matthew 6:6) aside the congregational prayers.

Christian’s prayer life should reflect personal worship, confession of sins, boldness to contain fear and face troubles with determination for success out of it, giving thanks to God and preparing to ask God things we need. If we want our prayers to be effective we must not allow anything to interfere with our daily plan of seeking God. Our prayer life should prove our commitment to serving God and boost our relationship with Him. Through this we will have proper understanding of God and knowledge of doing his will. Christians needs to joyfully endure and be filled with expectations that God will surely do the best.

Prayer brings forth spiritual fruits by which we can live to please God. John chapter 15 makes us know that we should live to bear fruits. Here an illustration was made that believers are branches in a vine which is Jesus. Any branch that fails to bear fruits is cut from the branch, get withered and burnt. It is our depending on Christ that makes us bear fruits. When we live a faithful prayer life we are no longer praying alone: Jesus will be with us in prayers. Following Jesus example of prayers in John 17, He prayed for Himself, He prayed for the believers for unity and a secured future to do the will of God. He also prayed that we shall make heaven and partake of his glory. Our hope is that we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is 1 John 3:2

If truly we abide in God and God in us through our obedience to His words we shall receive the strength which will sustain us whenever we are weak to pray and when we do not know how to pray. Roman 8: 26-27: says, 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Today’s topic is ‘Grow Intentionally. For us to be fit for God’s service our intention must be clearly defined and straight to the task. When good intention defines our goals, then our lives as Christians become purposeful. God has given us ability and placed His blessings upon it for us to live a purposeful life. From the topic it means everything counts either in favour or against us depending on our wishes and the will power to get them achieved. From the Biblical context our intention should be towards unfailing pursuit of the kingdom of God. Jesus made His intention clearly known to the world that He must accomplish the will of His father in heaven. How do we do this as children of God?

All we need is to live a life that is committed to the God’s plan for our lives. God’s plan for our lives can be fulfilled through our spiritual growth and commitment to doing His will. We are made to understand that spiritual growth begins at salvation, the time a believer comes to, and continues a new life after confession and forgiveness of sin. Christian new life reveals putting to death the old nature and hoping for the glorious resurrection to a new life. This change of life is symbolized by water baptism: immersion that symbolizes death to sin and the rising up that represents resurrection to new life. It is by holy living that we can grow spiritually. If you believe that Christ has set you free to become a child of God, you must pursue holy living and sustain yourself by it. As you pursue this make sure you yield your life to God and live righteously. As we walk intentionally we should walk purposely to achieve the spiritual maturity.

We should not relent in our efforts to grow spiritually because the moment we relax, the enemy will come to draw us back from our relationship with God. If Apostle Paul could say, as spiritual as he was, that he had not arrived, how much more shall the struggle be for us to attain spiritual perfection. What we need is our daily pressing towards spiritual growth, which we shall get when we allow the spiritual driving force in our lives, when we do not allow past failures to hinder our spiritual growth and when we have full consciousness of where spiritual growth leads to.
There are examples for us to follow. First is Jesus who was patient in pursuing the God’s will and endured all difficulties until He was rewarded by our father in heaven. James makes us know that we should be submissive in our relationship with God, and never to give chance for the devil. Also, daily seeking the presence of God and humbling ourselves before Him draw us close to Him to grow spiritually.

Submission to God and respecting others are valuable attributes we must possess to grow spiritually. Lacking this will hinder our relationship with God and obstruct our spiritual growth. Apostle Peter also urges us to be patient and humble in growth process that in due time God shall exalt us. There will always be challenges but we should place them in God’s hand. We should resist the devil that will come with his plan for eternal destruction and difficulty to spiritual growth. This we shall overcome by diligently and intentionally pursuing spiritual growth. Today’s topic is ‘This you can know’. While the world might be troubled with problems of uncertainty Children of God should know the truth about God and remain confident in the truth about Him as revealed in the Bible. His truth builds and sustains us spiritually to discern the spirits: to know the Spirit of truth which is of God, and to identify the spirits that found and spread erroneous belief which are of the devil.
For us to know what is true in the spiritually polluted environment we find ourselves, we need to test the spirits through spiritual discernment that is available to a believer that allows God’s spirit to guide him. We should recognize how lovingly God is to us and show love to others. We should also know that our love of God will be tested on our love of others.

Believe not every spirit, but tests the spirits. You should know that the devil sends many false prophets to the world and he puts his spirits in them to deceive many people and turn them against the plan of God for salvation. Such are the spirits that cause confusion and chaos, such are the spirits of anti-Christ, 1 John 4: 2-3

The work of the spirit of God is to enable us filter the truth from lies in this world where systems within the society are increasingly getting opposed to God: people have taken to false hood and hold opinions with little or no accountability. In a situation like this only people borne of God and who allow the word of God to stay in their hearts can overcome the world and its false teachings. Learn and choose to follow the truth about God or else you will be overtaken by erroneous believe and surrender to the devil.

Response by faith to God’s word is the basics for drawing closer to the Spirit of truth and staying to love God as He wants us to. He first loves us and He wants us to love others if we are truly prepared to abide in Him as his children 1 John 4; 7-11. This kind of love for others involves action, giving oneself for the benefits of others, as demonstrated by Jesus.

God in His love to us sent His only begotten son into the world, for us to live through him and acquire the right knowledge to live as His children .God offered His only begotten son to be the appropriation for our sins. Thus Jesus is the mediator a sinner needs to see God and be like Him. Previous lesson makes us understand that a believer that sees God will be like He is. If we have been living to see God, His love must have been perfect in us. How can we achieve this? Our lives should show that we love others and ensure that Spirit of God dwells in us.
If you hate your brother you cannot expect God’s spirit to dwell in you, likewise if you take to killing fellow human being you are in no way abiding in God. You must remember the sacrificial love of Christ that brings you into a right relationship with God. Show that love to others who might have never experienced God’s love. His love drives out fear and fills us with peace. Emulate the loving character of God and demonstrate love to others, Matthew22:35-39. Lesson text 1 John 4:1-21

Today’s topic is ‘Examples of Good and bad’ which is about leaders. Leadership starts from ability of individuals to create value to the lives of others. Showing good example as a leader begins from roles and responsibilities of a person in the service committed to him. It was learnt that a good leader must not follow that which is evil, but that which is good because it is this that comes from God, what is contrarily to this is bad and from the devil.
The lesson is about the attitudes of three elders (Gaius, Demetrius and Diotrephes) in the local Church that Apostle John described by their characters and attitudes towards others. The first and second men were described as good leaders by their attitudes, they showed love, care and were supportive in providing material needs and financial assistance for people, especially those who were assigned to teach others the right word of God and spread the gospel of truth and sound teaching.

These leaders are described as good examples to follow by their being faithful to good teaching, walking in truth and living for God. However the third man abused his position as a leader by fighting against elder’s help. In this way he resisted authority and caused harm to the church. He chose to behave this way because he wanted to control others and make sure that nobody could challenge his position. This act in him blocked believers grace to right teaching. When a leader starts to misbehave this way what a believer needs to do is to stand against him that he might be saved from the wrong influence. Believer should not be overtaken and subdued by the faults of harmful leaders.

Good leaders will ensure that good doctrine is promoted with loving behavior among believers. A good leader is the one that tries not to abuse anyone. We should not condone the wrongs and evils of bad leaders, and we should not agree with their bad behaviors. We need to deal with bad leaders and the boldness to do this will come if we do not fail to do and promote what is right. How can we choose and follow a good leader? We understand that no one is perfect, but we can identify a leader who strives to be godly, the person who sincerely seek the best for people of God. A good leader must show good and consistent character as a good example to follow. A good leader must show love and care for the followers.

There were great models in the Bible and in the church history, and even they are in our midst to follow. When they are identified we need to spent time with them. A role model makes a believer grow stronger in right knowledge and in truth. Believers need good teaching and good leader. MAY GOD BLESS OUR CHURCHES WITH GOOD LEADERS. Lesson text 3John 1:1-14

Today‘s topic is ‘Stay with the Faith‘ When a person is called out of the world to follow Jesus and he decides to do so he begins in new experience of salvation. For him to to have the assurance that once saved he is saved for ever he must understand that salvation is a continuous process just like walking with God. Therefore God‘s salvation demands sustaining oneself and remaining in faith. Apostle Jude, one of Christ‘s deciples shed light on what it takes to embrace Christian faith and to know that if Christians would be successful they will contend for faith. To do this there is need to understand some things.

There are some forces that struggle with faith because the devil always plans difficulties against serving God and doing his will. To overcome him believer needs to retain his call for sanctification and continue in holiness for the Spirit of God to work in him and make him more like Christ. We already know that it is Jesus that saved us from eternal destruction and made God‘s grace available for us. Also, it is through him we are protected and receive the power to serve God faithfully and live in his blessings.

As we contend for faith we should know that opposing forces are around which want to weaken our faith. False teachers are around, their messages are against keeping the power of Christ and preaching the gospel of truth. These false teachers are ungodly, they teach falsehood about God and Christ.

Falsehood and disobedience against God shall be judged. In order not to await God‘s judgement we should not bow to errors and evils of false teaching. We should determine to live our lives and do all things to the glory of God. Jude encourages us to choose our teachers carefully, and that we must know and follow what the Bible says.

Jude gave some descriptions about false teachers: they are like unreasoning animals that follow and do things by instinct, they corrupt themselves, and they are doomed to judgement; Like Cane they substitute their own forms of worship (Gen 4:3-7); Like Balaam they led others to errors for their own material gains (Numbers 22:1-41)and like Korah they are rebels against God (Numbers 16:1-40). God shall judge ungodly people, ungodly actions and lies against him.

Christians must protect themselves from false teachers and doctrines. we must listen to and develop ourselves in what will make us stronger in faith. To achieve this we must pray daily and invite Holy Spirit to lead us and make us stronger Christians. Other things we must do to keep faith is to stay focused on Christ and keep ourselves in the love of God.
Lesson text Jude 1: 1-25.

Today’s topic is ‘Seize Opportunities to Serve God’. From the account of Nehemiah we learned that man lives within opportunities but success depends on preparations towards achieving it. This man considered the plight of his people and he looked up to God for help in the difficult situation. He wanted the restoration of his people and the troubled city. Therefore he took up the challenge of interceding for his people and the city from the foreign land he was serving the king. Three things came up from his concern for the people: he felt for his people; he trusted God for possibility of converting opportunity he had to help his people and rebuild the city; and he acted promptly when he was endowed with the grace.

God knows about situations His people are passing through and He is ready to help them out if they sincerely rely upon Him. He wants people to trust and remain spiritually strengthened to enjoy His blessings. Nehemiah was seriously concerned about plight of his people. Though he was not responsible for their problem he realized the needs to seek divine intervention on their behalf for restoration and rebuilding of their city. He did not see himself as being comfortable in the foreign land to the point of forgetting about welfare of his people and country. He was man of great faith, he trusted that God would help him in every step he took.

As a cup bearer for the king in the foreign land Nehemiah took time to pray and fast on behalf of his people for God to provide opportunity to share his feelings with the king. God touched the heart of the king that it was him that request Nehemiah to present his petitions. The king listened to him and granted all his heart desires for his peoples’ needs. It is learnt here that when you are placed to occupy a position it is for a reason. You must see it as opportunity for purposeful cause. When you have good intentions in a position you occupy as a believer and you desire to do God’s will He will make a way for you.

From Nehemiah example, it was not only his request that was granted he was favoured in several other ways. This shows that when we trust in God for good intention and allow Him to do His work His response will cover other good things we do not even imagine.

Some Christians find it difficult to depend on God and build confidence to achieve success because they are impatient, not waiting for God’s time. Christians must not underestimate God’s ability to perform great things. Christians must also realize that all worthy things are realizable by divine power and not human ability and strength.

Christians must develop well-prepared plan and in the process of executing things we must be prepared for challenges. Nehemiah came across some challenges but his responses to them made him a good leader. He believed in prayer and thoughtful planning, and he was man of action. If we want to succeed as Christians with the available opportunities we must trust God and act in faith to do what He puts on our hearts. Lesson texts Nehemiah 1&2.

Today‘s topic is ‘ Dealing with Problems in Relationship. We are still learning about Nehemiah‘s concern for freedom of his people from internal and external oppression. He made them understand that injustices from their countrymen constituted greatly to their hardships, and this was as a result of their unhealthy relationships. Instead of pooling resources together and getting mobilized against external influences that troubled them, the rich were taking advantage of the poor. They charged high interest on money borrowed by their brethren to the extent that the brethren were forced to live wretched lives. In our societies some leaders would not see the hardship and poverty of others as a result of their own failures even if it is a product their actions. Instead they view struggles of others as opportunities to enrich themselves.

People that blame others on their predicament are more often motivated by pride instead of showing compassion and humility. Nehemiah was greatly angered about the the oppression of poor people and he called the wealthy people to stop charging the poor usury which was against Mosaic laws because the action further complicated the problems of already impoverished people. The action made the rich to take undue advantage of the poor and that was a great sin against the law of God. As people of God we are to admit our sinful conditions and repent of sins in order to be made right with God.

Nehemaih was able to identify and correct the injustice because he walked in the fear of God. He made his people know that injustices kept them from enjoy God‘s grace. If we must fully enjoy God‘s grace we should do away with injustice and submit ourselves to him. We must determine to do things right, prepare to take responsibility and walk in the fear of God. Nehemiah showed example of a good leader that healed damaged relationships by correcting injustices among his people. Also he let them know that they were expected to put divine blessings ahead of personal gains.

Nehemiah set example of godly leader. To be a godly leader, a Christian occupying leadership position must practise Jesus description of a servant leader(Mark 19 42-45), a leader must not see leadership as an opportunity to amass wealth, but rather as an opportunity to fulfil God‘s purpose. He must see position of authority as a grace to identify and honestly provide for the needs of people, esp those of low status.

Just as Nehemiah did we must be motivated by good intentions in actions we take. We must fear God and show respect for others, knowing that we shall be accountable to God. We must show love and compassion for others so as not to add to burdens they might have carried already. Finally we must not expect rewards for all good things we are doing from people. We must believe God for the best rewards. People respect leaders who show good example, who do not see themselves as better than people they serve, and those who practise what they preach. Lesson text Nehemiah 5: 1-19

Today‘s topic is ‘Victorious over Opposition‘ Anyone that claims victory must have overcome obstacles. In continuation of the leadership style of Nehemiah this lesson reveals that a person doing God‘s work must rely on Him to overcome opposition.
We should look to God for strength against persistent opposition and determine that what He has helped us to start should not be abandoned. When we live with godly characters and depend on God as believers we will be empowered to overcome forces contrary to His plans for our success.

Christians must understand the motives of enemies: they are opposed to progress and success. Likewise we must understand their strategies so as to know how to face them. We must also understand the spiritual nature of problems posed by enemies. When we understand all these we will know that divine power is needed for victory. The messages in Ephesians 6:10-18 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 open our understanding to the spiritual nature of problem and what we need to prevail over it. We must know that God has power over supernatural forces of enemies and able to give us victory over them.

Fear is the greatest weapons being used by Satan to weaken and render Christians ineffective esp when we focus on impending dangers rather than God‘s power to protect. We should not forget that God is all powerful and has control over all circumstances. His word (2 Timothy 1:7) sustains believer‘s boldness over fear.

Christians should response to enemies‘ threat by faith knowing that God who made victory possible in the past is more than able to do so in the future. Nehemiah fully trusted God that he made a statement that dissolved fear. Neh 6:11. He demonstrated a great leadership faith in God. Likewise when we put faith in action we shall be of tremendous inspiration to others.

With faith and determination, and continuing in the will of God esp under difficult circumstances we shall be successful. God will be glorified and allow testimonies of his faithfulness to be seen by non believers so that they might be brought to His salvation.

At difficult circumstances we need perseverance, without this success could be reversed and advance for total success becomes impossible. Believers are to persevere when faced with opposition. It is vital for spiritual growth and confidence in God‘s power to overcome spiritual opposition. Lesson text Nehemiah 6 thru 7 : 2 , Phillippians 1 27-30

Today’s topic is 'Recommit to God’s Word’. We are still continuing with the commitment of Nehemiah to restoring his city and bringing people back to God. Staying in God and abiding by His word really demand our commitment to serving Him. The Bible shows God as the merciful father that would not like to see His children continuing in suffering as a result of their disobedience even after they have wasted all opportunities. He is our loving father that will always want us back to Him after we have been led astray. Coming back to God in total commitment must be based on certain things: understanding God’s word, obedience to His word and taking delight in living by His word. We can know all these and live accordingly if we take time to read Bible and identify God’s purpose for our lives.

From Nehemiah’s example we are studying, people understood that God was ever faithful with His promise when they took time to seek God. He strengthened them to overcome all challenges. Also He protected them from attacks of enemies. They recognised all these when they were determined to know what God required of them which they had neglected for years as a result of disobedience. As we learned from the consequences of believer’s disobedience to God’s word, we are being called to know things that are essential to understand Bible in order to live a successful Christian life. We must love to hear and read the word of God, and not only this we must live practically on the word. Hence James 1:22 encourages us to be doers of the word, and not hearer only. It might be very difficult to read and understand God’s word by studying alone therefore we need someone that knows better to lead us through.

We need leaders who are dedicated to understanding Bible, to explain what the word means and how to practically apply it. They will help to protect believers from dangerous teachings against faith and instruct in biblical principles required for spiritual growth. We also learned that Christians sometimes live under the guilt of past sins as a result of spiritual failures. When we are conscious of this we must not allow the guilt and condemnation to dominate our thoughts instead we must come to receive Christ forgiveness and allow him to heal our hearts. Once this is done our grief will turn to joy. God wants joy in abundance for our lives if we can continue in His love and obedience to Christ. John 15:11.

Obedience to God’s word is essential for the blessings of God to come upon us. He is prepared to fight for us and frustrate our enemies so as to to be in the mood of victory and joy as He did for the Israelites under Nememiah’s leadership. All we need is rededicating our lives to God. As we are doing this we shall be able to live in a way that is consistent with Him. Serving God on our own terms will be of no benefits but to live by what He requires of us. We need to act in obedience to His word then we shall feel His presence and enjoy His blessings. MAY THE LORD HELP US AS WE DO SO IN JESUS NAME. Lesson text Nehemiah 8:1-8

Today’s topic is ‘Returning to Godly Standards’ God called us out of the world to walk in His way and do His will so that we can enjoy His blessings but our sins deny us full access to the blessings. Christians who cannot conform to godly standards as established by Jesus are yet to get out of darkness and walk in the light of God. Ephesian 5:8 says, Ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. For us to live as children of light we must be committed in our service to God, and our lives must be based on taking responsibilities: what we must determine to give back to His honour and glory with sincerity of heart.

We are still continuing with Nehemiah’s example. Nehmiah was successful in leading his people back to God after their failures to serve Him and preserve His ordinances for many years. The people were deeply moved when they were taught the word of God again. They confessed their sins and resolved to reject sinful practices that had separated them from God. It was after they had done this that they were able to come back to God and continued as the children of light. Believer that has fallen short of the will of God must realise the need to amend his way. This requires regular confession of sins to receive forgiveness and cleansing. Failure to do this hardens heart against God’s saving grace.
The Bible reveals that sin cannot continue without consequences. God will judge sins meaning that people will be punished for their sins. God sometimes uses punishment to bring people back to Him. The Bible declares that God is ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, great in kindness, and ready to forgive his people. A believer should be conscious of sins committed, confess and turn from them in order to renew his commitment to serve God. We must be prepared to take the responsibilities of being children of God If our commitments should always bind us to doing His will.

Christians must not be overcome by temptation. We must determine to do away with practices that are improper for God’s people: behaviours such as sexual immorality, impunity, greed and many others as stated in Ephesians 5:3-7. Instead of being overcome by sinful practices we must commit to living rightly before God. People living by sinful behaviours cannot be children of God and heirs of the kingdom of Jesus. Christians are being implored to actively resist temptation of mingling with the world and its lusts. The world is continuously allowing all sorts of behaviours but Christians are encouraged not to tolerate sinful behaviours if we must withstand temptation.

As Christians we are being called to embrace godly standards and take responsibilities for actions we take in our commitments to do the will of God and obey His commands. Only submission to the lordship of Christ can help us reject all temptations without compromising faith. When we have fully retain godly standards we shall be able to live as children of light and bear the fruits of godly living (Ephesians 5:8-10). We must adopt godly living that non-believers should see the difference that Christ is living in us. Lesson texts: Nehemiah 9 tru Chapter 10.

today‘s topic 'Introduction to Spiritual Gifts'. Holy Spirit is available for believers at salvation, when man has been redeemed from forces of darkness and brought to walk in the light of God through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit enables believers to bear witness of Jesus Christ and live a life that is acceptable to God. He leads people to accept Jesus as the son of God, Lord and Saviour. Holy Spirit exalts lordship of Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit manifests in believers by variety of gifts which makes it easier to grow in faith and serve God. The gifts of Holy Spirit are for believers to achieve success in the areas of their calling.

The Gifts of Holy Spirit come from God and they are made available to believers to accomplish His will. For Believers to receive the gifts he must have surrendered himself to be used by God for the benefit of the whole church. The gifts are to prove the power of God and manifest His presence in believers. The Bible shows that Holy Spirit distributes the following gifts among believers: word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, work of miracles, prophesy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues. Holy Spirit uses individuals in the church to minister with these gifts at various positions of calling, and believer can be gifted more than more one of the gifts.

These gifts do not come by training, wisdom, insights, maturity and experience. They are purposefully given as blessings to believer’s calling so they are not property of any believer to boast of. Manifestation of these gifts is under spiritual direction, and the gifts are for believers who are yielded vessels to God. We have access to Holy Spirit because we are parts of spiritual body of Christ. Apostle Paul uses human body to illustrate relationship of Christ to the Church. He shows that Christians are unified as members of a body which head is Christ. We are baptized into one Church irrespective of denomination, nationality or background. Every member of the body is needed to work in unity to fulfill functions of the body. This means all members of a church are important, and individual should identify where to serve God as area of his calling.

God designed Church to function in combination of unity and diversity therefore believers are to work together as members of Christ’s body at various positions and while doing this our gifts and talents must be harnessed to glorify God. He wants us to promote unity by loving and caring for one another. Nobody should be regarded as being less important before God, we are interdependent therefore we should respect one another and love to see that there are always peace and harmony. All spiritual gifts should be harmonised for planting and growing to maturity of a church.

Holy Spirit determines what gifts are needed for believers to minister at a particular time. We are vessels through which He can perform God’s work. Paul advised that Christians must not envy another believer’s calling or gift, instead all gifts should be brought together to honour God and do His work. Lesson text 1 Corinthians 12: 1-31.

Today’s topic is ‘Gift of Knowledge’ In continuation of the gifts of the spirit, today’s lesson takes us through what we should know as we are growing spiritually to serve God. We are endowed naturally with knowledge but Spirit of God reveals what is beyond ordinary to people that live to serve Him. God’s Spirit reveals the mysteries that are difficult to perceive and understand by our senses. I Corinthians 2:9&10 says more about this; that God Spirit will reveal and interpret for man what is beyond his imagination. Ability to receive God’s giving information in supernatural ways depends on our spiritual relationship with Him. Today’s lesson examines three important components of the gifts of knowledge which are: word of wisdom, word of knowledge and discerning of spirits.

God enables people with the words of wisdom to make right decisions. Wisdom is about common sense, sound judgement and other critical qualities needed in critical times; and the word of wisdom stays as supernatural insight for specific situations. Example of this is demonstrated by King Solomon in 1 Kings 3 16-18 where it is revealed that God gave Solomon understanding mind to observe and understand mysteries. As a result of this gift he could read and understand situation to act rightly and strike out the truth. Likewise during the early church the ministry of Paul and Barnabas was so empowered that many new converts were added daily to the church. Then matters arose as regards whether the uncircumcised converts should be regarded as believers. It was by application of God’s wisdom that it was clarified that being a Christian should be based on biblical standards of morality and holiness instead of legalistic requirements. This shows that church should be built on the basis of salvation of human souls through faith in Christ.

On the words of knowledge we should know that human research and evaluation are not enough; we do not have ability to foresee future events and make decisions for things to turn out the way we should have expected. God knows the future and what is needed in the present to prepare well for the future. We can’t see into the future, therefore we need the Spirit of God to reveal some secrets and give information that will direct and guide us through it.

Christians doing the work of God should strive for the gifts of discerning of spirits to enable them identify the spirit behind actions and attitudes of others in specific situations. At times the spirit of evil can pretend and present himself as the spirit of God. Such spirit is doing this to do harm by leading an undiscerning believer into trouble in the course of gospel. There are instances in the Bible when the spirit of Satan resorted to praising and glorifying God but it was by discerning of spirit that the evil spirit was identified and rebuked. Paul identified and rebuked evil spirit that was announcing and testifying the power and message of salvation of God of his ministry (Acts 16:16-18). Also, Jesus identified and rebuked evil spirit to come out of the man that was even testifying that Jesus was the Holy One of God (Mark 1:23-25). Spirit of evil can operate under any disguise to thwart God’s work for salvation of human souls but with the gift of discerning of spirit a believer will be able to identify and rebuke him. Lesson texts 1 Samuel 9:15-17; 1 kings 3:16-28; Acts 5:1-11; 9:10-16; 15:12-28;16:16-18; 1Corinthians 12:8-10

Today’s topic is Gifts of Power’. The gift of power is available for believers to develop and equip themselves. As promised by Jesus Christian ministry is backed with authority and power to overcome forces of evil and to be successful in the gospel. The scripture shows that spirit filled believer’s speeches and preaching are not enticing words of man’s wisdom, but of the spirit and power of God (1 Corinthians 2:4). We will examine gifts of power in the following aspects: gift of faith, gifts of healing and miraculous power.

Faith is one of the fruits of the spirit and it is an extraordinary demonstration of the power of God. It is by faith we walk with God and believe in His power to make possible what looks to be impossible. This kind of faith was demonstrated by Peter when he commanded the lame beggar (Acts 3:6-7) to arise and walk in the name of Jesus. The gift of faith builds confidence in believer and helps to see that God is in control, and that He will make possible what seems to be impossible.

Gift of healing is available for Christians as they minister. Jesus gives us power and authority over the devil and all evils. He sent the disciple to preach the gospel and heal the sick (Luke 9:1-6). Gift of healing is a wonderful gift God gives to the church. He wants us to use it to deliver those who are oppressed and being tormented by the devil. God gives believers the power and authority for victory over Satan and all evils, Luke10:17-20. What we need to do is allowing Holy Spirit to lead and release the gifts for us. We cannot choose to heal people any time we want, but we should do what is required of us as Christians (having faith and confidence in prayers), God does the healing at specific situations.

Miraculous Power is a gift of power. This involves supernatural demonstrations of God’s mighty power in our lives. The Bible shows that there is power in the prayer of believers which makes God act in an extra ordinary way. An example is when believers prayed and God sent His angel to released Peter from the prison. All chains that bound him fell off, and he was taken out of the prison cell without knowledge of the sixteen soldiers that were watching over him (Acts 12:1-11). This shows that when we pray God is ready to intervene in the impossible situation (James 5:16). God works miracles in churches to make people listen to His word and convince them about power of Holy Spirit. May He make His miraculous power available for us in Jesus name. Lesson texts: Luke 9:1-6; Acts 3:1-16; 9:17-19; 12:1-11; 13:4-12; 27:17-19; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10

Today’s topic ‘Gifts to Equip and Mature’. The gifts given to the Church are for spiritual growth to maturity. Matured Christians are expected to teach and train others to work in unity so that they can mature in truth and love to God’s glory. A Christian that has been blessed with the spiritual gifts must work in obedience to God’s command so as to mature and be successful in faith and service. This lesson reveals that a matured Christian must be able to perform in at least one of the offices where spiritual gifts are mostly desired: as apostles; prophets; prophets; pastors and teachers. When we identify the areas of calling we can deliver we must play our part minding the followings: Unity of the Spirit; The Ministry Gifts, and Maturing in Truth and Love.

Our ability to be united in the Spirit must be based on sound doctrines which will make us know practical ways we can fulfill God’s purpose. Apostle Paul calls our attention to the needs to walk worthy of our calling, this means our conducts should balance our calling, and we can show this when we treat others with modesty and courtesy, when we love others and promote their welfare instead of counting on their faults which breeds resentment 1 Peter 4: 8. Apostle Paul shed light on the basis of our unity as a body of Christ: from unity in the Spirit to unity in the Son and to the Father. This spiritual unity portrays the Church as a single community with the seal of ‘one body’, ‘one Spirit’ ‘one hope’ one ‘Lord’ and one ‘baptism’.

It is by ‘one body’ we are reconciled in Christ; by ‘one Spirit’ we all receive the indwelling of the Spirit of God in us and by which we are baptized into the body of Christ, 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:9, and our hope is to share eternity with Christ. It is in ‘one Lord’ we believe and by his name we pray and God answers us. By ‘One baptism’ we first passed through the required water baptism from which we are empowered to be baptized into the body of Christ by Holy Spirit. On all these we believe and are made Christians. These fundamentals make us different from other religions, and by this we are united and uphold the gospel.

The Ministry Gifts are gifts from Christ by which we minister the gospel to others, and to effectively carry out the ministry of the kingdom of God. Christ’s victory and his ascension to heaven made this ministry available for believers, Psalm 68: 18 testified to this even long before Christ’s coming. Paul listed these gifts as the gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. These gifts and their roles have to do with those appointed to leadership position in the Church Ephesians 4:11-12. These leadership gifts aims that those occupying leadership positions are able to perform all the works of the ministry, but at the same time to ensure that all believers are given a role to play in the church, all members are important and must be given the grace to deliver God's service in one way or the other.

One of the goals of the ministry is for believers to come to the unity of faith, and from which they should be trained continuously until they attain spiritual maturity. All believers should mature in truth and love. Paul shows that it is not good of any believer to remain stagnant over some months of staying and learning in the Church Ephesians 4: 14-16. A stagnated believer would be like a ship being tossed about by the waves of ragging sea, and in the process he will be venerable to false teachings that can make him stumble and fall and even forget about walking with God.

Believers are encouraged to be united in truth and love so that they would not be victims of false teachings. When a believer is being led astray by false teaching, a matured Christian has the responsibility of gently guiding him in truth. Christ’s gospel wants all believers to be transformed into a new life where they can part with the corrupt way of life. Christians must renew their thinking, and as a new creation in Christ believers are to develop a new attitude to sin and righteousness. God is righteous and holy, therefore believers must pursue righteousness and holiness. May God help us. Lesson texts: Ephesians 4: 1-24.

Today’s topic ‘Right attitudes for Ministry’. Lessons of the past few weeks open our hearts and understanding to the gifts of the Spirit and what is being expected from Christians blessed with the gifts. We have learnt much about life changing characters manifested by the gifts of Spirit and the awakening to live a life that is committed to doing God’s will. Today’s lesson will help us know about right attitudes and how to develop them for the ministry. Apostle Paul reminded us again that all Christians are to be involved in working for the needs of the Church and all members as well. Christians are expected to relate with one another without entertaining unnecessary argument and dispute, and without envying anyone. We are to work together and make our Church function in the way that pleases God. The following are to be examined for the right attitudes to the ministry: have humility in grace; be willing to Serve, and needs to be motivated by love in our actions.

Have humility in grace: It is by God’s grace we are called out of the world and become saved through Christ. Therefore we must realize that talents and abilities God deposited in us should be used to help others. We must see ourselves as members of one body headed by Christ. Apostle Paul gave a beautiful illustration of this that Christians are to relate and function like our body where all parts are interdependent. We need others to function effectively whenever we have located and occupied the place in the Church where God wants us to be and function. As we are doing this we must endeavor to help, support and care for others with humility.

Locate your place of usefulness in the ministry and use your ability to minister God’s grace to others Romans 12: 6-8. The gifts of spirit are purposeful here to achieve success. The gifts of prophesy and teaching are needed to build up, encourage and comfort other believers. The scripture shows it here that ability to rule diligently and to show mercy is product of the gifts of the Spirit. Believers are to promote these gifts and use them to God’s glory and meet needs of other people.

Christians are encouraged to be willing to serve, keeping in mind behaviors that will make them stay connected with God as they hope for the Lord’s return. Here we are to be of clear mind and exercise self-control in order to pray more intelligently and effectively. To achieve this we must show love, extend hospitality and minister the spiritual gifts by willing hearts.

We must be motivated by love in all we do. Love makes gifts truly profitable. All we do in the ministry should be motivated by love. Paul shows that if we are blessed with various gifts, but we are not showing love to others we do not amount to anything, 1Cor 13:1. Agape love is preferred and it is the kind of love God wants from all believers: the kind of love that considers interest and welfare of others. It is the love needed to maintain faith; love that does not hurt others; love that makes us deal patiently with those who are impatient; love that is not rude, that does not brag. Love that neither provokes others nor makes them angry. Love that does not rejoice in evil; the true love that covers and protects others. All gifts are useless if they are not motivated by this type of love. Also, faith is heading to destruction if not motivated by true love. May God help us. Lesson texts: Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12: 31 thru Chapter 13:13 1 Peter 4:7-9

Today’s topic ‘The Author of Redemption’ God in His mercy and love towards us does not want us to be destroyed by sin that is why He plans for our redemption. For someone to be released from the bondage of a tormentor it doesn’t come easily. At times redemption would be achieved through battles against the task master that must be overpowered before someone receives deliverance. It is the work of Satan that people should do evil and fall to sin. As a result of this we all have fallen to sin and live in the bondage of the devil. Living as a slave to sin doesn’t please God therefore He planned for redemption of people. He demonstrated His redemptive work in Egypt when he raised Moses to deliver His chosen people from their oppressors so that they would go and serve Him.

We are so precious to God, so He cannot abandon us as slaves to sin. He wants us to be redeemed, come to right relationship with Him so that we can be called His people. But doing this will not come easily; price has to be paid for redemption of the precious souls. Humankind was lost and God had to pay enormous price of the life of His only begotten son for redemption and salvation. God’s promise of redemption was fulfilled when He selected a people to serve as His representatives, people that could live in right relationship with Him. God made a covenant with Abraham that all nations of the world shall be blessed through him. By following what Israelites did in Egypt, they cried out to God for deliverance. He heard their groaning and He delivered them.

God used His mighty hand to deliver His people from the Pharaoh’s mighty hand. This tells us that redemption from oppressing forces of evil needs the mighty hand of God. From Isaiah 43:1-7 it is revealed that God is our hope of redemption just as He promised Israelites what He later fulfilled. We are now experiencing God’s redemption through Christ; therefore we must be good representatives of God and allow Him to show His glory through our lives. Now that we are redeemed we are qualified to settle for many benefits from God, as stated here Psalm 34: 18-22; 103:1-5. Christians are encouraged never to settle for less than what God provided for them: the enemy would like to contend the blessings but never allow him to prevail. While we experience redemption, God promises to take good care of us; we just need to be confident in our prayers that He will meet our needs. He will surely respond to our requests when we maintain good relationship with Him.

God’s means of redemption is Jesus Christ. Luke 1:67-79 takes us through God’s promise and plan for redemption which He revealed through prophets as being fulfilled by birth of Christ. Here it is made known that we owe God our praises and thanksgiving for the coming of Christ and deliverance He brings through him. Now God has made our deliverance from enemies and forces of evil possible through the Saviour which is Christ. We are to keep our salvation in mind so that we will yield to God and live under His Control for His love and care to be for us, and not Satan that offers evil and suffering. God, the Author of our redemption loves us, He wants us to serve Him with righteousness and holiness, and without fear. God help us. Lesson texts: Exodus 6:2-8; 2 Samuel 7:22-24; Psalms 34:19-22; 103:1-5; Isaiah 43:1-7; Luke 1:67-75.

Today’s Topic is ‘Christ our Redeemer’. Last lesson shows that God is the Author of Redemption and as it pleased Him, He made Christ Our Redeemer as revealed by today's lesson. Redemption is available to all people through the precious blood of Jesus; it was by his blood the price for our redemption was paid. Having paid the price then we are close to obtaining God’s mercy and receiving forgiveness of our sins. God’s plan for our redemption is described in the scripture as a mystery which we must share with others who are yet to discover it. Now this lesson makes us know God’s plan for our redemption from Old Testament and how Jesus sacrificial death replaced any sacrifice by which we can receive forgiveness of sin and cleansing from its guilt. From this topic we shall examine the cost of our redemption, the value of our redemption and the results of our redemption.

Songs of praises unto God fill our mouths and we are confident to proclaim the gospel because Christ paid the cost our redemption and by his saving grace we are redeemed. God revealed A to Z of the life and death of the savior that all people need. This is summarized in Isaiah 53: 1-12, verses 1-4 prophesied the life and ministry of Christ, verses 5-9 were about his death and burial and verses 10-12 prophesied about his resurrection and exaltation. From these verses we learned about lowly beginning of the Messiah, skepticism and disbelief of many people concerning him, how people would despise him and caused him to suffer. It pleased the Father to plan life and death of the savior of the world this way because he wanted a single sacrifice that would remove all sins and through which we can be made right with Him. He was afflicted, bruised, and put to death, while he did nothing worthy of death.

From his affliction and death God planed our healing and deliverance (verse 5), now we can enjoy healing in all aspects: spiritual, emotional and physical healing. He was wounded and pierced and laid to be slaughtered like animal, he did not make any effort to defend himself. In submission to the will of God, he took all punishments we deserve upon himself, so that we can live at peace with God. Because he died willingly for sins of many God glorified him and made redemption possible through his sacrificial death. Christ’s death and resurrection is described as the sufficient sacrifice. Before his coming only the high priest was in charge of shedding blood of goats for covering sins of people, whereas himself would use the blood of bull to remove his own sin. This reflected what Jesus the High Priest of the New Testament would replace. He offered his blood for the single sacrifice God wanted, therefore no more blood of goats and bulls, we are now redeemed by his precious blood. He is the mediator a sinner needs to be purified and justified.

Our redemption is of great value. Through it God’s righteousness is free to us. Also we are justified by God’s grace. All unrighteousness is sin, and all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and if sins should be judged no one can be righteous. And because of God’s righteousness and justice sin must be punished. It is the atoning death of Christ that removes our guilt and justifies us. We are justified by God’s grace but we must come to right relationship with God. We must walk in holiness, godliness and righteousness. God enables us to live holy lives through His Spirit. We have been redeemed from empty way of living by the precious blood of Jesus, the only precious offer that has eternal value. Any other offers that man can make to God are of no eternal value no matter how precious they are.

The results of our Redemption are now manifesting as promised by God. Christ’s death removed curse of the law from us. Trying to be righteous by observing all dictates of law becomes a curse because the hard` people try to do this they fail. Therefore Christ took the curse of law on himself, and through his death the curse was removed from us. At salvation we can easily receive promise of the Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. Through the redemption believers receive the gift of belonging to God. Believers can now boast of their adoption as children to the family of God. It is God’s desire that all people become part of his family through Christ our redeemer. May God help us. Lesson texts: Isaiah 53:1-12; Romans 3:21-26; Galatians 3:13-14; Ephesians 1:3-10; Hebrews 9: 11-15; 1 Peter 1:18-21.

Today’s Topic is “God Renews and Strengthens” Now that we are redeemed we should be renewed and strengthened in the Lord in order to live successful and victorious lives. To achieve this Christians must wait upon the Lord; Isaiah 40:31, They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. If we must expect this we must soften our hearts and surrender ourselves to God’s will.

God is our Strength and He cares for us. The Bible shows God as being fair and impartial. We are all entitled to general benefits from God but closeness to Him makes the privilege. For instance, He made the people of Israel and related with them so that through them His plan for redemption of the world would be revealed. When the people were faithful to Him they enjoyed special care and attention which were not available to other nations. But when they failed in what He wanted from them they were punished, and whenever this happened He would raise a prophet to remind them what they did wrong.

When it is observed that God did not answer the way and time we wanted, we should know that He would response at the appropriate time and in the right way. When it seems that we are undergoing a time of trouble We need to encourage ourselves on what He did in the past and on that we should be confident of what He will still do. He has Promised that He would strengthen and take care of us, He has also promised to be with us and never to leave us. All we need is to be faithful and trust Him.

Christians that put faith in Christ will receive a new nature that will make them hate sins but love righteousness. Apostle Paul (Romans 6:17-23) shows that people who are slaves to sin are living to satisfy Satan’s priorities. But people who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus are given a nature that reflects God’s priorities. Whether person’s behavior serves God or Satan is shown from the results of his actions. Satan is in control of any action whenever the result is evil and destructive to others. God wants us to be holy and present ourselves for things that will be for the lifting up of others.

We should focus on a new goal which is where to end the spiritual race. Apostle Paul showed that Christian goal is to win the ultimate prize of spending eternity with Christ in heaven. If our goal is to spend eternity in God’s presence we must continue to do what He requires of us. Christians are to be inwardly renewed and present themselves as a new team of God. We cannot profess to be God’s team and continue to wear uniforms of the enemy or old team. Our new identity should conform to godly standards.

Apostle Paul encouraged believers to put on behaviors that agree with the new nature; at the same time he encouraged them to put off the old self and never to put it on again if they are to be continually renewed in order to be alive and growing for God. Also he made an illustration from his own physical condition that he was grown of age and the body was wasting away but his spirit was being renewed and replenished because he was alive in God. Our joy as Christians should be that though the physical body is heading to the grave, the inner man is preparing for eternal life. May God help us. Today’s topic is “A Renewed Mind”, a believer that has been transformed after surrendering his life to God is given the power to live with a renewed mind. The spiritual transformation comes through continual submission to the Lord Jesus Christ. This spiritual transformation brings a dramatic and remarkable change that is supernatural; a change of life that makes a believer live for God. Romans 12:2 ‘Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God’. This lesson takes us through the following: renew your mind; put on the new self and strife to know Christ fully

Apostle Paul pleaded with the believers that they should present themselves as a living sacrifice to God for their services to be acceptable to Him. The Bible makes it known that sacrifice involves surrendering something in order to obtain a reward. A sacrifice can be made financially, materially and even a person can sacrifice his time to pursue an important goal. God offered Jesus as the only sacrifice for all sinners to obtain forgiveness and receive His salvation (John 1:29). God offered Jesus to take the punishment of our sins so that we can receive forgiveness and His grace. As we enjoy the grace, God wants us to continue in obedience to His word and serve Him in purity and holiness.

The world is corrupt and many people take delight in pleasures to satisfy their heart desires; many of which lead to violent behaviors, sorrows, evil thoughts and separation from God. But in all these God transforms us and makes His Spirit available to lead us through the path of righteousness where we can experience His goodness, acceptable and perfect will for our lives.

The renewed mind is Christ-centered, and it is based on this we can put on the new life. With the new life we are no longer under the control of evils of the world. Instead we are liberated to follow the guidance of Holy Spirit that will enable us to become increasingly like Christ, and make us walk in the light of God and pursue holiness. Holiness can be described as a string that connects us with God, without it the relationship cannot be sustained.

Our staying in Christ is what reveals God’s glory to us; therefore we must always strife to know Christ fully. Apostle Paul described his experience with God through his relationship with Christ;that all his wealth, position and knowledge were like animal dung the moment he knew Christ and experienced his glory (Philippians 3:cool He became thoroughly transformed and his priorities were no longer the same again. He was overwhelmed by the tremendous blessings of knowing the savior and he was willing to give up everything including his life to follow the Lord and be in the ministry.

Despite Paul tremendous achievements he did not see himself as a person that has arrived. He was pressing hard to know Christ better, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings. Likewise we must follow Paul’s example so that we can live to draw closer to God every day we are alive. Christian life should be characterized by a dynamic, growing journey with God by following the footsteps of Christ, our savior. May God help us.
