INEC Has Not Registered Any APC - Jega by Morgan1092(m): 11:28am On Mar 24, 2013
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, yesterday, said that no political party with acronym “APC” has been registered. .
Speaking on a live audience participation Radio Nigeria Hausa programme Hanu Dayawa, monitored in Kaduna, Jega said the All Progressive Congress (APC) just recently officially notified the commission that it intended to merge some opposition parties into one.
Said Jega: “This issue has generated controversy in thepast few weeks. Firstly, the truth is that no political party wrote to notify us that it is planning to merge with some other political parties until the past five days or so.
“Therefore it not true that we were notified. The issue became serious when one group came out to seek for registration and I guess that was what made them to write and notify us. But that is not the issue. The main issue is that there are guidelines for registered political parties who want to merge to become a new party. There are also guidelines for individuals or groups who want to form a political party for registration”.
The INEC boss explained that the guidelines for registering new political parties are different from those for registered political parties wanting to merge, saying registered political parties merging must have agreed to merge and each of the political party in the merger must have held a convention and agreed to withdraw their registration as a political party to become partof the new party to be form through the merger.
“After their conventions, theyare expected to write and request INEC to withdraw their former registration and say they want to join a new party. In spite of all the controversies, none of these political parties who want to merge has held their convention” Jega stated.
“We only read in the newspapers that they have the intention of merging andnobody wrote us until about five or six days ago. If anybody wants to register a political party, you are expected to tell INEC of your intention by saying that you want to register a party with so and so name and you want to know the procedure for doing so.
“Only one group came. The group asked one lawyer to write INEC saying they wanted to form a political party with a particular name and they wanted to know the rules and procedures for registration as a political party.
“If this other group has done so, we would have replied them and tell them the rules and the procedures they are supposed to follow to be registered. So, the issue of whether we have collected the name of this other group and whether we have agreed to register them doesnot even arise because we just replied to their letter by telling them the procedure.
“While this was going on, some people started making noise saying that they wanted to merge with so, so name. Some of them were even saying that we have registered the other group with that name. It is not done like that.
“People are just making noise over the name which isin the market while we have not even gotten to that stage. While all these noise were going on, another group came up seeking for registration with the same name.
“We have rules and guidelines for all this and we are determined to follow the rules to avoid any confusion. But we have not reached a stage where we can say a group has been registered with so, so name. So all thesenoise is just part of our politics in Nigeria”.

This is arrant nonsense prof jega. Why would parties be placed through all these rigorous process jus to merge and be registered. I see jega is setting a trap for APC.

Well, if APC is serious as they rightly claim, let them commence and let them know he who wants to fight a giant should not be scared of injuries...
Pdp will do everything possible to put them out

Here the Chairman of INEC stated that INEC just replied the other APC(African People's Congress) letter of intent by explaining to them the procedure for registration. During the official unveiling of APC(African People's Congress), they showed a receipt of N1million paid as administrative fee to INEC for registration. They also showed a form PA1 which they ought not to have supposing we want to believe Jega that INEC just/recently replied their letter of intent explaining the registration procedure to them. Its either Jega is lying or there are saboteurs inside INEC working for the party. I believe the movers of the African People's Congress should be questioned on how they were able to pay for the administrative fee and their claim that they have completed all the necessary requirement even before INEC was able to acknowledge their letter of intent! www.thisdaylive.com/articles/leadership-of-controversial-african-peoples-congress-steps-forward/142249/

The parties merging into All Progressive Congress(APC) should hurriedly hold their respective conventions if truly they want to merge, or else they will continue to fall for the b0oby traps and landmines planted by PDP!

Am wondering what's with all the processes. That's too bureaucratic for merging a political party.

I also think this Prof Jega comment should have come earlier to clear all these noise.
Still watching with keen interest

If care is not taken by 2015 there will still be no APC or so. The sharing formula is what is delaying the registeration of the APC.

Hey person what u talkin bout, jega is right how can APC be claiming its a party when it hasn't done d simplest thing necessary to become a political party sometime una Nigerian fink like 12yr girls havin their period. They will hav to officially withdraw from there previous parties n do the necessary registrations or ® they sitting on the fence to know which party will succeed, see hw our elderly statesmen fink. This shows that APC has only 4 men dat actually wants a new party the rest are jt political prostitutes look for the biggest d*ick dat will f*uck them.
Just sitting and claiming doesn't legally allow u to own anything u need the proper documentation n to get that INEC has place reasonable process which seems simple enough if u ask me.

So in essence, Tinubu and Buhari just went to INEC office 5 days ago to seek guidelines for merging. Its very shameful for people who want to 'wrestle' power from PDP. It is not by 'noise' according to JEGA, But to think that there will be a congress of APGA approving the merger is yet an impossible task to accomplish, so I can authoritatively say, Rochas Okorocha has entered 'one chance'. He has become politically Prodigal. I can say, He is on his 'Road to Bar Beach'

Because it is a topical issue. However, i personally do not think that the magic lies in the name APC but rather in the party's ideology. So the All Progressive Congress can show their superiority by changing even to a name with an entirely different acronym and still deliver the sucker punch to the ruling party.

APC is a still birth, who will ever vote for a Party that can not even know simple party merging procedures. They went about making noise instead of working for the people.
