Ribadu: Farida, Ibori Destroyed EFCC's Efforts To Fight Corruption by bizgynbala(m): 7:04am On Mar 25, 2013
Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Farida Waziri and former Delta State governor James Ibori brought the anti-graft agency to its knees by destroying all the effort put in place in the fight against corruption, according EFCC’s pioneer chairman Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

Ribadu, 2011 ACN presidential candidate, spoke when he featured as a guest of the week of Kaduna Liberty Radio on Saturday.

“People like Farida Waziri, James Ibori and a couple of others who are still alive and they took over the EFCC brought it to its knees because they literally destroyed the cases that were already in existence with the intention of wiping out the war against corruption.

“The intention was to reverse it and take us back to where we started and they did a lot of damage to the commission and the war against corruption, but as God will have it, the EFCC survived because today, it is still doing the work even though probably not like it did before, but somehow it has been given the chance to bounce back again,” he said.

He described the pardon granted Chief Diepriye Alamieyeseigha and Mohammed Bulama by President Jonathan as  a “tragic development”, a saying the action is against Nigerians “because corruption is our biggest problem and any step taken against the direction of reversing it is a negative development in our own country”.

In her reaction, Farida Waziri described Ribadu as somebody “suffering from delusions of grandeur.”

She spoke yesterday through one of her aides who craved for anonymity.

“He is talking rubbish, Nigerians can differentiate between someone who left about 10 high profile cases and another who took over 50 high profile cases to court, I mean the record is there for anyone who cares to check”, she said, according to her aide.

She also said more than seven former governors were taken to court during her tenure, including former ministers and about 10 corrupt bank executives.

“We arraigned former governor of Ogun State Otunba Gbenga Daniel; his Oyo counterpart Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala; Alhaji Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State and Danjuma Goje of Gombe State, among others. The single largest recovery of over N200 billion in assets and funds was gotten from a corrupt commercial bank executive, so how can anybody in his right mind say we brought EFCC to its knees”, Farida’s aide quoted her as saying.

I think both of them tried. Farida even tried harder going by the odds stacked against her.
At least Ribadu had OBJ's support but GEJ and his people actively worked against Farida and eventually kicked her out when she became too stubborn and was asserting her freedom by using the media to prosecute her cases.
Her approach embarrassed the government and they had to boot her out. Meanwhile, Nigeria bears the brunt.

Re: Ribadu: Farida, Ibori Destroyed EFCC's Efforts To Fight Corruption by Nobody: 9:49am On Mar 25, 2013
Ribadu is a buffoon. What indices do you use to measure who performed better as EFCC boss? Certainly, it has nothing to do with who made the most noise. The records clearly indicate that Farida's tenure recorded more prosecutions, secured more convictions, and recovered more ill-gotten money. What then is this noisy fool called Ribadu talking about?

Ribadu that openly declared Bola Tinubu an international thief, only to later wine and dine with the same thief, and collect money from him to run a doomed presidential campaign. Should such a two-faced clown be taken seriously?

Madam Farida Waziri time as EFCC head was not so good.

EFCC that time achieved little close to nothing.

Sanusi lamido Sanusi fought the bank executives, not Farida. Please put the records straight. EFCC had little to do with that case. If SLS was not involved, nothing would have happened to those bank chiefs. At the rate we are going, the present administration may even 'pardon' some of them so they can take back their loot before 2015.

Re: Ribadu: Farida, Ibori Destroyed EFCC's Efforts To Fight Corruption by ALLWILBWELL: 11:03am On Mar 25, 2013
Ribadu and Farida operated under different leaders, situations and circumstances. I don't think it is proper for Ribadu to speak this way. Under his leadership, many people perceived EFCC as partial. EFCC operated as though it was a special unit set up to silence corrupt leaders who were perceived as opponents of the government of that day. From my point of view, if EFCC under Ribadu acted with same vigour and zeal across board, not focussing their searchlight on political "enemies" only, it would have recorded excellent performance. I am not blaming Ribadu for this seeming impartiality but I want him to know that he is not an angel. He probably acted to please his boss. As for Farida, the handling (or is it "mishandling")of Ibori's case totally rubbishes her achievements. There was a rumour that time that Ibori was very close to the then President Yaradua and even the current president. Farida had to also please her boss. She too is not an angel. In a nutshell, none should judge or condemn the other. Both of them should leave the assessment of their performance to Nigerians. I believe both of them tried their best under the circumstances in which they operated.I pray that the current leadership of EFCC will have enough boldness not just to bark but to also be able to bite, without fear or favour.
