JuveFarms:

Here in Abuja, there is Harmattan but Hatching & stocking still takes place. Maybe you visit a successful farm in ur area to know how they manage theirs.

gaskiya we cant hatch in kano now, temperature is extremely low but stocking is on going depending on ones management practise.

@korel9 in this harmattan season water flow is more more important this season and environmental sanitation is important.

I use a concrete pond in my farm... Due to experience, before I stock I wash the pond then i disinfect it with BLAGDON ANTI FUNGAI AND BACTERIA.. So they rarely get sick.. But once in a while I still record a very few death though throughout the five month..
I wash my pond only after harvest.. Its shaded to avoid direct sun light.. Thanks
How method did u use to shade your farm? A pix will do excellently, tanx dear.

I am not based in Nigerian, but I am willing to share my own idea on way forward for the fisherman and also can support with inputs on how things should be done.
I am totally sad and unhappy with the way catfish farmer are unable to unite having one voice, one price in selling out fish per kg. They just made the fisher seller extra rich while the farmers doing all the extra work e.g buying fish feed, changing water, petrol and so on and so forth, before the fish attains a table size to be sold and fish women will giving you the supplier (The farmer) rate to sell your product all because you want to sell or in need of Money… Imagine them iya elja buying fish for N450 from you and selling at the rate of N1000 or N1500 then who has profit in the business?
To what I was I told they don’t buy feeds to feed the fish from the moments they left your farm to sell and you have to do the math how much you spent in 4-5 months and how much you gain at harvest.
Enough of my story I think the fish farmers needs to be educated and give support to most of them who are not financially stable so they won’t sell their stocks at giveaway price.
I am willing to work with any committed Nigerian to make changes in creating a very strong and accessible platform for the fish farmers to have a fixed price so they can enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Solution: is creating a Database Platform to have all fisherman on which information can be easily passed around to their mobile phones or email to keep them alert and update on lock up price to sell fish per kg this will bring more profits to fish farmer pockets and eradicates the Iya elaja from cheating on local farmers.
This is just my opinion and supports. All the farmers needs is one Voice

Note: Not sure if any one reading this can be helpful to send me business plan on fruits imporation to Lagos .

@deleza u av speak well it's just that we need unity among our in osun state I heard some farmers are selling there own #600 for 1.5kg waoooo I believe things is gonna change hmmmm .let us unite among ourselves I strongly believe this unity will work .at least we should start selling d table size at #600-#800 900g -1.5kg .

hailing house. I have been away for long trying to do.many things at a time.

I was discussing wit my neighbour dt works in brewery and some how, an info dropped.
He told me their coy sells spent grains to farmers and the price is quite cheap. He told me d farmer must have a registered farm and have certificate from ministry of environment.
I tot it must be pig farmers dt buy such. sumhow in my dream yesternight, i saw my younger brother has a fishery. The fishes were so big dt they hardly move their body. I asked him.wt he feed them and he showed me sumtin dt looks like local feed. In dt feed, i saw sumtin dt looks like dawa. I feel its a message dt was passed to me in dt dream.

@local feed experts, can spent grain from brewery be used in local feed manufacture?

Reason why u dreamt abt brewery waste was bcoz u were talking about it earlier in d day. I dont think theres anything divine about dat.
YES, brewery dry waste can be incorporated into fish feed. People use it.
