A – Yes, the price will definitely change since they are subject to market forces.
One thing we want to customers to note is the fact that exchange in Cotonou fluctuates daily or weekly, so it’s possible you change money today at the rate of 300naira to !000 CFA and the following day it’s 323 or even 350 naira to 1000 CFA, potential customers should please take note.

Sir,your question is part of the numerous questions we get everyday and we feel it's high time we address some issues.

1. We don't buy cars, jeeps/trucks from Cotonou into Nigeria UNLESS they appear physically to inspect the vehicles before payment and please note the emphasis on the word UNLESS. Since we are delivering your car, truck/jeep to the border with original custom duty papers, we feel you can drive off from the border without hassles, in other words if we deliver your vehicle at the border, all we are charging are transaction fees for services rendered, if by chance you as the customer now want us to drive your vehicle from the border to any part of the country, that is another charge entirely.
Gone are those when agents will tell you it’ll take 2 weeks for your vehicle to get into Nigeria or your home, we don’t need to that since you as the customer will be around to negotiate at the parks, inspect the vehicle and supervise it’s movement to the border and also get your original papers from the Nigerian customs services.
2. We don’t accept cash payments from customers, you have to spare a day/two to inspect the parks, if you don’t have time, you can send a mechanic or any other representative. So it’s not a case of you as the customer sitting in Abuja and you expect to pay us so we can buy cars on your behalf.
3. Also on the issues of making inquiries about prices of cars from Cotonou, over time we have discovered most people who make this inquiries aren’t always ready to buy, after spending money on calls and transportation, they turn back to tell us they will think about it or they want to come back in two/three months which makes things rather awkward, some after making inquiries about custom duties etc give the jobs to other agents, a man came all the way from Edo state last week without informing us and it was when the other agent started playing funny did he call to inform us that he was stuck at the border and such jobs ,such jobs have ways of eating into our finances and we need to make profit as a company. Buying a car, jeep/truck from Cotonou is so easy as ABC, we have situations were we advise customers to deposit for cars while they go back to Nigeria to gather cash, car dealers in Cotonou are honest people, once you make deposits for a car, it is moved out of the stands and kept in a safe area till when you come back with the balance which may depend on the day agreed on between the dealer and customer, so you still have a chance to gather enough money. If and when you need a vehicle, please call when you actually need, if you make inquiries now and prices change by the time you have enough resources to by, it makes us look like liars.

We only deliver at the border,since we are delivering your car with original custom duty papers and you can drive.After delivery at the border,if you want us to drive anywhere in Nigeria,you have to reach another agreement with us.
It was in the old days when cars went through bush paths,people will tell you to pay and your car will be delivered after some weeks,all we charge is consultation fee,since you will be directly involved in the whole show and please note that we dont accept cash payment,you have to come to the parks to inspect what you are buying or send a representative.

I am quoting this post for some specific reasons.

1. Whenever you want to make inquiries about prices, always make sure you have a specific model in mind,going round parks in Cotonou which can be equated to going round 10-15 football pitches is not easy and it is always disheartening when the client doesnt show up or gives our jobs to other agents.

2. Pleas,always make sure you are ready and willing to give us a job whenever you call to make inquiries.

3. Be courteous anytime you call to make inquiries,abusive words or slangs will not be tolerated.

4. If you call our mobile numbers and no one picks,please send text messages and we promise you that we will get back to you.

5. Customers who have made inquiries and havent gotten a reply from us should please endeavor to call us,the workload is much and we send back hardly get back to our clients.

Sir,i as the CEO of jelad ventures will find it very hard to reply your inquiries.the reason is plain simple,i have gone through you posts on nairaland,since May,2013 you have been discussing with various dealers who operate in Cotonou and I read where someone gave you the same 2010 corolla for 1.8m and you still wanted a lower price.

Sir,if 2003 can be gotten for 1.350m-1.4m with original custom duty papers,i so much doubt the 1.8m my co agent gave you and you still want it to go lower than 1.8m.

I am sorry if i have to say this but it is all in a bid to avoid stories that touch the heart.Everything we have posted on nairaland has been posted to show Jelad ventures is quite different from an average agent you meet in Cotonou.

That is why we don't charge for most services we render,there are even instances where we spend money to satisfy our customers and we have living witness who can actually testify to the fact that we have always stretched ourselves to satisfy customers.

When we say cheaper car,jeeps or trucks are available in Cotonou, we have not said 2012 Camry will be sold for 1.8m or 2m,all we mean is that you have options of inspecting 20 types of a particular brand before making a choice and even if it is 5,000 naira,you can still save.So if you have seen a jeep for 3.5m in Lagos,it is possible you get it for 3.2 or 3.1m in Cotonou.

The amount of calls/text messages and emails we get via our post Nairaland if equated to cash income,we will not be complaining but 24/7,people keep calling us to ask about prices and believe me,Cotonou is not a place where you can have first hand knowledge of every car,jeep or truck,we have to make calls,send text messages,send staff into Cotonou to check the vehicles out before we can tell the client we actually know the price.When you make inquiries about vehicles from Cotonou, we spend so much on calls, text messages etc. Cotonou is so large that you can go around a park for hours without getting a particular brand/model and a park is like combining 6-7 football pitches together and we have more than four parks. So you can see the stress we undergo just to give you the best deals.

How will you feel when you get to Cotonou and we start telling stories or we show you an accidented vehicle.You'll think we are plain crazy and a bunch of scammers.

Many even call and after we have made inquiries for them,they just cut us off and give our jobs to other agents and we only get to hear when something goes amiss,like when an RX350 was seized in Ore along Benin expressway,we told the man that duty was 1.2m but he later gave the job to an agent who collected 120k from him and also got him a soldier as escort but unfortunately his jeep is now in ikeja customs command impound lot.

The fact that we don’t charge for transportation into Cotonou and for other services apart from commission charge, has made so many Nigerians believe we aren’t serious, even in cases where fellow agents charge 30-50k for vehicles, we have been so flexible that customers even pay us 10k-15k but when it comes to an issue where the percentage of inquiries are more than jobs done, we don't want people to abuse this offer and always make sure you ask for vehicles within your financial capacity,don't start asking for a 2010 car when you can barely afford it just because we have said there are cheaper vehicles in Cotonou,we are pleading.

Jelad ventures will be going on recess for 2days,which means all operations start by Monday 01/07/2013.These is to enable us clear back logs of inquiries and also give some of our staff the opportunity of attending the ordination of their CEO as a deacon in his church.

Q: I asked if my vehicle could be delivered in Warri but was told I have to pick up at the border.

A: It is not as if we can’t deliver your cars anywhere you want them in Nigeria but we have reasons for telling you to pick up your car from the border.
Many deals we do at Jelad ventures are always in the presence of our customers, we do it because we want you to have an experience when it comes to buying vehicles from Cotonou.
Also, we are trying to bridge the gap between the buyer and the direct seller by allowing each party to actually sit down to negotiate without the interference of any middle man. It also gives you the opportunity to inspect the vehicle, especially if you have your mechanic with you, you can also fix/love-vendor your vehicle on the spot.
It also gives you the opportunity of monitoring your vehicle and paperwork, so you can check if your agent your agent is cheating or not. Most people still believe the only way vehicles come into Nigeria are through bush paths but been present at the border to receive your vehicle gives you the opportunity of clarifying that the duty papers been handed over to you are not fake.
If at anytime you believe you can’t drive back to your homes, we have experienced drivers who can drive your vehicles while you sit beside them to check at various checkpoints if your agent has shortpaid customs or the papers are fake documents. Every checkpoint has a data entry of every vehicle coming out from the border that is why you are issued with a PIN, once they discover any error, your vehicle will be seized.
So it is not as if we don’t deliver in places like Warri but all we are trying to do is put your mind at rest.
