Gunmen, suspected to be members of the insurgent Boko Haram, on Tuesday evening killed four officials of the Borno State Government.

The officials are members of the state school feeding committee that were on a tour of schools in the state. The victims include Tijjani Mafe who is the chairman of the feeding committee in charge of the free feeding programs in public schools.

Also among those killed was an accountant, Modu Kura Gubio. The names of the other two victims, including the driver of the vehicle, are yet to be confirmed.

Reliable government sources say the gunmen waylaid the vehicle of the committee members at Logomani Village near the outskirts of Bama Town, 89km from Maiduguri; and shot them dead. The gunmen also escaped with their vehicle.

The state commissioner of education, Musa Inuwa Kubo, confirmed the incident but could not provide details.

A wall could be built in days, but bringing it down is less than a day job. Mending such wall takes longer time than it was required to build it at first (time for clearing the broken pieces as well as time for fortifying and ensuring its stronger). My point? The wall of peace in maiduguri has been shattered, not even amnesty can rebuild that. It will take more than few visit fron the leaders and amnesty. These are people who do not even understand the meaning of co existing, they do not know how to love neither do they love in return. People make no mistake, it has nothing to do with religion. This is a cultural defect. The ways most northerners were brought up made it very easy for them to kill at will. In a typical northern family be it xtian or muslim love is not of any importance. Marriages were based on family ties, children were given birth to without any plan, a woman can have as high as 13 to 15 children all of them without any form of education. In the north parents don't ask their kids what they are up to, they don't keep any tab on them, they are free. Boko haram believe me had been a menace waiting to happen (maybe under another name), like the yandabas of kano. This is a cultural defect, amnesty may be appropriate to mop up a bit of the current rate of massacre, but it won't stop this problem. An indepth visit to how people train their kids is very inmportant, parents should be taught the basics of bringing up a child. Even in the south were more parents r becoming weaker in there duties as parents, its just a matter of time. Parents wake up!

And the govt says it bowed to pressure to grant amnesty after about a few weeks clamour from a few selfish,evil,tribal,greedy,...individuals from only one region...how about the more than decade long nationwide clamour, and call for a sovereign national conference or a true federalism, that will solve our problems once and for all? well, amnesty has been offered,we are waiting to see how long those northern elements(all BH them) are going to continue to black mail the govt and hide their them, and we are waiting with our stones.

BH is a cancer. It consumes everyone and everything around it. It must be handled like a cancer by isolating it, excising it and attacking it. Sadly, in Nigeria, people seem willing to use it to indict Muslims or Northerners or North-Easterners or Hausas or Kanuris.

In this case, BH just snuffed life out of indigenous Kanuri guys who are trying their hardest to support education of local Kanuri children. Yet, many in the south will still paint the situation of a possible Hausa-Fulani-Kanuri elite support for BH. If we cannot clearly identify the problem facing us, how can we confront it? This same group almost suffed the life out of the Emir of Kano!!

BH is a cancer in our North. If we in the South don't care just because it is in the North or if we try to make it look like it is a Northern agenda against the South, we will be missing the bus and we'll all remain stranded on this killing field.
