We’ll give Achebe befitting burial, say Obi, others The Southeast Governors’ Forum yesterday said it would give the late renowned writer, Chinua Achebe, a befitting burial. It resolved that Achebe should be given a proper honour because he brought honour not only to Nigeria but to Africa. The Forum Chairman and Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, addressed reporters after a meeting in Enugu. Obi said the Forum had received the report of the committee set up to resolve the crisis in the Igbo socio-cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The governor told reporters that stakeholders and the governor also deliberated on security and infrastructure in the region. “Our meeting today is based on three items. We have received the report of Ohanaeze committee, which was set up by the Governors’ Forum. “We have received the report, which we will look into to enable us come up with a position,” he said. Present at the meeting were Governors Theodore Orji (Abia), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter- Party Affairs, Senator Ben Obi, among others. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news/well-give-achebe-befitting-burial-say-obi-others/ 1 Like |

Must they all come together and deliberate on the issue before giving the man a befitting burial, can't Obi singlehandedly foot the burial bills or is achebe not from his state again. Yes the the dead man is an international figure but why does Obi always try to trickishly involve other southeastern states' governors funds whenever he wants to bury his kinsman? 3 Likes |

Why do we run a democracy that spends public money on private events. Benue state bought and distributed bottles of perfume to mark the first lady's birthday. Akpabio in Uyo is showing how reckless and detached our government is with his one million naira donation for Mr. Biggs (aka see me after the meeting and collect the money). Can you imagine how much we have spent on both muslim and christian pilgrimages, something to be undertaken by whoever can afford. Private weddings have become an item in state and federal budgets. Patience Jonathan wwants to have a surgery survival, states and federal purses are opened. Chinua Achebe made millions in his life time, his children and kinsmen are lucky the late laurate made his money cleanly and they should reject these thieves from South of the Niger from soiling the clean name of Chinua Achebe. 4 Likes |

Should we go on public holiday bcoz we lost a gr8 novelist ?? Maybe when archemedis, Newton, Aristotle , Socrates ,Rutherfood, Ohms, Faraday them died, the world shut down!
