Tinubu, Buhari Political Liabilities - Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday dismissed criticisms of the Goodluck Jonathan administration by the two main opposition parties, saying their national leaders-Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were “heavily burdened political liabilities.”

Senior Special Assistant to Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, told journalists at a news conference in Lagos, that the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government would not be distracted by their ‘empty’ criticisms.

Tinubu had at the ACN convention in Lagos on Thursday, said “The current government’s trademark is to throw empty words and hollow actions at our problems,” while Buhari vowed that the All Progressives Congress would resist any move by the PDP to rig elections in 2015.

But Okupe said Buhari and Tinubu, the arrowheads of the move by the ACN, CPC and the All Nigeria Peoples Party to fuse into APC, lacked “the antecedent that support their claim of possessing what it takes to move Nigeria forward.”

He said, “It is evident that the proposed merger revolves around two personalities only, Senator Tinubu and Retd.- Gen. Buhari. Unfortunately, both are heavily burdened political liabilities. ”

The Presidential aide described the proposed merger as “incongruous alliance of political weaklings, ,dysfunctional Lilliputians and repeatedly frustrated political power mongers.”

He claimed that the promoters of the APC were desperate to “supplant the Jonathan administration, forgetting that one million giant ants can never muster the required strength to lift a concrete pole much less of a nationally entrenched pillar and structurally established institution like the PDP.”

The Ogun State-born medical doctor called the ACN a “motley assembly” lacking in internal democracy and “notorious for outsourcing” its presidential candidates from the PDP.

Noting that the ANPP “had existed for 13 years without any meaningful impact on the polity,” Okupe predicted that the APC would likely pick its presidential candidate from the rank of the PDP stalwarts..

He said, “It is noteworthy that the major plank of this motley assembly, the ACN, is notorious for outsourcing its presidential candidate from the ranks of the same PDP they gleefully villify.

“In 2003, their choice was Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who now knows them better. In 2011, it was a protégé of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who filled the slot although he was later betrayed and sacrificed on the altar of self interest.

“Presently, the debates within the factionalised alliance suggest that they will not mind fielding another PDP stalwart as their presidential candidate.”

Okupe said that the administration of Tinubu in Lagos State was characterised by labour crisis and that it did not at any time attain 60 per cent budget implementation.

He said, “The leader of the opposition, Chief Bola Tinubu, who spoke disparagingly about the Federal Government on a number of issues was once a governor of Nigeria’s richest state for eight years and we all have a record of what he made of that position.

“ Tinubu who spoke about meagre wages for public servants in Nigeria was known to have ignored calls of Lagos civil servants for a N7,500 monthly wage and when he eventually buckled to the pressure of Labour leaders, he wickedly sacked the arrowhead of the struggle in the person of Comrade Ayodele Akele, who was never re-instated.

“Yet Tinubu spoke of the present government as ‘heartless and mean that put the interest of small elite above the interest of the common working man and woman who are the backbone of this nation.”

On the National Chairman of the ACN,Chief Bisi Akande, he noted that when he (Akande) was the governor of Osun State, workers were denied N5,500 minimum wage.

He added that the Akande regime laid off over 9,000 workers during its four years in office

He said, “Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who was then Nigeria Labour Congress President and now Governor of Edo State led workers on protest in Osun during the period but Chief Akande remained adamant. Where then is the credential of these people to talk about job creation, promotion of workers interest and democratic etiquette?.”

He also described the decision of two nominated members of the Amnesty Implementation Committee, Mallam Sanni and Alhaji Datti Ahmed, to reject their membership, as “shameful”.

Okupe said, “They wanted to do it as private citizens and take the glory. Some people feel because a committee has been established, their importance will be undermined.”

Arguing that corruption with over 50 years existence in the country would not disappear overnight, the SSA added that Jonathan overhauled the leadership of government agencies saddled with the responsibility and signed the Freedom of Information Bill in order to reinvigorate the war against corruption.

Faulting Okupe, the ACN National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said, “Lagos State Government under Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu was the first state to increase workers’ salaries without them asking him. Osun State witnessed unrivalled infrastructural development during the tenure of Chief Bisi Akande, these records are there for all to see.”

The National Chairman of the ACN, Chief Akande, said that he would not dignify Okupe with a reply.

Speaking through his media aide, Mr Lani Baderinwa, the former governor advised the Jonathan administration to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians rather than engage in bickering.

“Okupe doesn’t need to be dignified with a response. He is an attack dog. He has enough problems of his own,” he added.

Also, the CPC through its Spokesman, Mr.Rotimi Fashakin, said “A hunter’s dog that is about to get lost forever will never hear the whistle of the hunter. This administration is about to get lost irredeemably.”

The presidency has described opposition political leaders as lacking in positive political antecedents nor moral recommendation to find fault with the social and economic policies of the Jonathan administration.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe stated this in a press conference addressed in Lagos.

Responding to the speech made by Action Congress of Nigeria leader, Senator Bola Tinubu at the recent convention of the party, Dr. Okupe said opposition leaders are fond of using “every platform to denigrate this nation and its government, confuse innocent members of the public and deceptively present themselves as possessing what it takes to move Nigeria forward.”

While noting that the antecedents of the ACN leader as governor of Lagos state did not portray him as a friend of workers and masses, neither does it show him as having better managerial ability which he hopes to give the Nigerian people, Okupe said, “the Bola Tinubu who spoke about poor budget implementation at the federal level never attained sixty percent budget implementation while he presided over the affairs of Lagos between 1999 and 2003.Contrast this with the remarkable budget implementation record of the present administration in the last two years. The records are there for all to see.

Senator Tinubu who spoke about meager wages for public servants in Nigeria was known to have ignored calls of Lagos civil servants for a 7,500 naira monthly wage and when he eventually buckled to the pressure of Labour leaders, he wickedly sacked the major arrow head of the struggle in person of Comrade Ayodele Akele who was never re-instated.

The present National chairman of the ACN, Chief Bisi Akande as Governor of Osun state during the same period denied workers of a 5,500 naira minimum wage and eventually laid off over 9,000 workers during his for year reign. Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who was then NLC President and now Governor of Edo state led workers on protest march in Osun state during the period but Chief Akande remained adamant. Where then is the credential of these people to talk about job creation, promotion of workers’ interest and democratic etiquette?”

The presidential spokesman picked holes in the merger of opposition political parties noting that none of the parties has what it takes to move Nigeria forward.

“These sets of politicians who want to desperately supplant the Jonathan’s administration are promoting an incongruous alliance of political weaklings and dysfunctional lilliputians out primarily to foster their ego and psyche being repeatedly frustrated political power mongers; forgetting that one million giant ants can never muster the required strength to lift a concrete pole not to talk of a nationally entrenched pillar and structurally established institution like the PDP.

“It is worthy of note that the major plank of this motley assembly, the ACN, is notorious for outsourcing its presidential standard bearer from the ranks of the same PDP they gleefully vilify.

“In 2003, their choice was Vice President Atiku Abubakar who now knows them better. In 2011, it was a protégé of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who fitted the slot, although he was later betrayed and sacrificed on the altar of self-interest.”

Okupe said none of the states being currently governed by the opposition ACN has given a good account of themselves as being insinuated by the opposition.

“As I speak with you, Ekiti and Osun states which are being governed by these opposition political parties are embroiled in one form of industrial crisis or the other as a result of the insensitive, cruel and anti-workers policies of their present governors.

“Local government workers and teachers went on strike in Ekiti and lost a number of their members to sack and other forms of victimization. In Osun, tertiary institutions are at present under lock and key. School fees have tripled in institutions of higher learning owned by Ekiti, Lagos, Osun and Oyo states. Yet, Senator Tinubu spoke of the present government as “heartless and mean that put the interest of small elite above the interest of the common working man and woman who are the backbone of this nation”.

While asserting that President Goodluck Jonathan will not be distracted from pursuing his transformation agenda, Okupe assured Nigerians that the various programmes on power, infrastructure, agriculture and job creation will be pursued even more vigorously in the coming months.

Akande did the best thing by ignoring the attack dog and that's what people have been telling Presidency that not every comment from the opposition deserves response. But the present administration under Jona doesn't want any form of criticism which is very very bad for any govt that meant well for the governed.

Look, say what you want but first show us the Performing leaders worldwide who gathers an array of expensively maintained spin doctors and attack dogs, like your dear President, with the duty of insulting everyone saying the truth about poor and grossly inadequate leadership.

It is all so easy, because most Nigerians have been brought up on a staple diet of "them against us" feudalism , for many to always miss the most important point to be attacking "enemies". Nigerians, in my opinion, do this more than others I know.

When Obama lambasted GEJ for corruption, some forgot the main correct message to suddenly remember that America is our enemy and "the most corrupt nation in the world". When Cameron asked GEJ to account for the trillions Nigeria has received in income, many damned the meritorious request and limited their input to shouting that "those imperialists should shut up". Can't some of you even try to think critically for the benefit of your own life success? How is it good for a President to have so many attack dogs with the exclusive duty of responding to everything negative said about the government with pugnacious insults? There is virtually no one/group that has not been insulted by the crew of Okupe, Abati, Omokri et al be it Ezekwesili, Tinubu, El Rufai, Buhari, Achebe, the Nigeria youths, Nigerians, SNG, Tunde Bakare, Femi Falana, Soyinka, Aregbesola, Fashola et al.

Surely you must realise that this is disgraceful and the antics of clueless leaders who, instead of getting to work, embrace insult and the paranoid alienation of everyone to mask gross incompetence and inadequacies? These things reflect the character of GEJ i.e always willing to pettily get into the gutter with anyone instead of simply delivering results that will shut critics up.

Corruption Massive Under Jonathan – US
The United States government on Friday indicted the President Goodluck Jonathan led Federal Government of massive and widespread corruption.

According to the United States Department of State, government officials and agencies frequently engage in corrupt practices with impunity.

This was contained in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2012, which was released on Friday evening.

In the report, the judiciary and security agencies, especially the police, were said be lacking in transparency.

It read in part,“The law provides criminal penalties for official corruption; however, the government did not implement the law effectively, and officials frequently engaged in corrupt practices with impunity. Massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption affected all levels of government and the security forces. The constitution provides immunity from civil and criminal prosecution for the president, vice president, governors, and deputy governors while in office.

“There was a widespread perception judges were easily bribed and litigants could not rely on the courts to render impartial judgments. Citizens encountered long delays and alleged requests from judicial officials for bribes to expedite cases or obtain favourable rulings.

“Police corruption remained rampant. Reports of checkpoint bribery and shooting incidents decreased in February after newly appointed Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar announced the closure of all police checkpoints across the country; however, illegal checkpoints remained common in some regions. Police routinely stopped drivers who did not commit traffic infractions, refusing to allow them to continue until they paid bribes,” it stated.

The bolded names has no moral groung to stand and dish out blames to the government of the day much as Okukpe et' al cos it amounts to shooting themselves on the foot. If their good intentioned advises and critisism should be analyzed based on the sacrosanctity of their claims why then should the led not also analyze the abysimally poor performance which the so-called "attack dog" spoke of in the retrospect. Much as I respect most of your analysis on the politics section, you and the insincerenigerian plays a politics of appology driven by emotions and panders on tribalism in favour of your respective masters.

Look, the opposition can be a pain. It is same everywhere in the world to include the most advanced democracies we copy fastidiously like the USA. Watch UK Prime Minister question time to gain some perspective.

You should acquire some maturity and ability to think critically as this will show you that the onus always lies on those who occupy the seat of power to do what is right and capable of shutting up criticism. Tinubu and Lai Mohammed can be a pain to GEJ but they as so and will continue to be so as an exponent of GEJ's own gross incompetence and compromised leadership.

You cannot, anywhere in the world, justify the notion of a Presidency engaging in mud-slinging when the voice of opposition only get stronger because of valid criticism that remain, day in day out, ignored. Get that into your feudalistic and clannish head.

Even if you claim I hate you, because I am the neighbour who tells you to clean your front garden so as to stop disgracing the community boasting well-kept houses around yours, why not shut me up first by doing what I correctly ask for? Doing that means you have the right, the next I talk, to show me up to be hollow.

Jonathan is not minimally interested in that approach at all yet politically unsophisticated folks like you defend him blindly. Instead, GEJ is criticised about monumental corruption and next minute he is pardoning corruption while unleashing Okupe et al on those correctly highlighting his duplicity, deceit and corrupt streak. Grow up dude and learn to accept that a man grows when he accepts rather than avoid or deflect truthful and factually correct criticism. You see these crumb catchers actually believe everyone should be on the queue with them in their bid to suck Jona's nuts.

When you watch the PMQ you will understand what democracy is all about. I have heard Milliband tell Mr Cameron time and time again that "he is clueless", "he is dishonest" and many more jibes. In fact on one of the PMQs he told him, "it is a downgraded Prime Minister, a downgraded Chancellor and a downgraded economy". Those debates and jibes are the beauty of the UK democracy.

But to these nut suckers, everyone must be on the queue with them and wait to suck Zona's nuts. I say epic fail!

He is clueless, he is deluded, he is a good example of a rogue masquerading as a leader.
