UPN Pays N1m To INEC For Registration

POISED to play a leadership role in the country, a political association, the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), said Tuesday that it had paid the N1 million non-refundable fee to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) to qualify for registration.

The acting National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Sokoto, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Sokoto said that the amount was paid on Monday April 29 vide an Ecobank cheque No: 130905, dated 02-04-2013.

``I confirm to you that we (UPN) paid the N1 million non-refundable registration fee to INEC yesterday (April 29).

``And INEC had acknowledged receipt of same the same day,’’ he explained.

A letter conveying the payment to INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, dated April 29, was made available to NAN in Abuja.

The letter was entitled ``Re: Instruction to Register A Political Party: Request for Information/Modalities’’.

It read in part thus: ``We write to acknowledge receipt of political party (hereinafter referred to as Unity Party of Nigeria) registration form from Mr. Ben Nwaokenya Esq (acting National Legal Adviser) a fortnight ago.

``We have gone through the requirements for the party (hereinafter referred to as Unity Party of Nigeria) registration that come along with the form and we wish to present our One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) only registration fee for your commission.

``Other requirements will be met soonest.’’

Dr Fredrick Fasehun, the acting national chairman of the group, also told NAN on phone that they stood on the socio-political and economic legacies of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

``Equality of good fortune must be to each reward; liberty and brotherhood are the goals for which we will strive; plus plenty and the good things of life.

``All the political parties since 1999 have failed us. It is for this reason that we have resolved to create a platform for the platformless, create a voice for the generality of Nigerians.

``A platform for democracy where every member shall have right of expression, unlike the monopolisation of power by some powerful cabals,’’ Fasehun said.

The chairman said that the new UPN shared the same ideals with the old UPN of the First and Second republics with a people-oriented four cardinal programmes.

Fasehun listed free and qualitative education at all levels; free health services with modern equipment, integrated rural and community development, as well as full gainful employment as the pivots of the party.

According to him, the upcoming party would address security, electricity, water, agriculture and other infrastructure challenges facing the country, if registered and voted into power.

Laughable! A man who has never won a Councillor seat want to resuscitate UPN. A wishful thinking that can not materialize.
Faseun, collect your pipeline contract and "chop" the money.

grin grin grin It takes much more than money to build political parties. Check the list of political parties in Nigeria and you realize a fool can register one but it takes a sagacious strategist to build one to a formidable force.

If d party can pull together people of integrity and restrain from absorbing rogues who may want to join from other parties or otherwise, then it will succeed.

Another dormant Political Party in the making, is not just by registering by by acceptance.

Mr Fashewun we had over sixty parties but only about five were accepted by the populace.

Take it or leave it, For now APC is the party to beat.

An average politician from d SW sympathizes with anything associated with awolowo. It may garner a surprising force. But of course, leadership will slip off his hands as it did others who tolled same path before him.

Ceratinly, only him cannot be d party. Survival, growth of d party will partly depend on who and who joins him to sponsor d party socio-politically.

For d party to gain attention, it has to be involved in a showdown with other groups with different ideologies and/or other powerful politicians. If they are obliged d attention, only FOCUS can save them else d party will die out.

Touts or not, they need ppl who wield power & can garner influence. And of course, these ppl will come with their own ambitions.

There must always be internal wars in a political party. The ability to handle & resolve them amicably while appearing cool will sustain them in d wars against external forces.

In my opinion.

Instead of GEJ to put his party in order he is busy sponsoring d formation of new parties to use and fight the opposition.
GEJ is not a wise politician at all and I doubt if he will b re_elected come 2015

UPN will take over South-West from ACN, since ACN has lost focus... People of that region are 'too' educated to be left in the hands of some few misguided and cluless people they called leathers.

And what makes one a wise politician oh Socrates?
I can see the new method adopted by GEJ is making you guys uncomfortable and restless after dismissing him as weak, clueless, brainless etc. Wait for it guy, GEJ is not clueless after all, he knows how to fight, how to deal with you

In 2011 election period, SW had 14million registered voters but only 4million voted. Those who live in the SW will agree with me that most SW are not passionate about a Northern presidency. Therefore UPN will use Awo & Monetary influence to entice many reluctant SW to vote.

GEJ knows that most SW PDP members dont have influence in d SW. And if He leaves d Pro-APC Yorubas unchallenge in d SW they could rig d election to favour a Northerner by thumb printing d unused ballot papers. D 2.2billion naira monthly oil pipeline deal is 2 empower UPN to stop APC.

This is Good News, finally, an opposition Party with a clear vision and mandate. The platform will be welcomed by all progressives who need an alternative. This is by far better and better positioned than the APC tablet.

Hv yu ask urself dis simple question. Why de formation of APC?. Jus to cease power n give it back to de North. Dat will neva happen not in Naija.

Smart guys. They know that SW does not want any thing that sounds like PDP, and are not too sure yet about ACN. UPN to the rescue. Why not?
Re: UPN Pays N1M To INEC For Registration by Dee60: 2:20pm On May 01, 2013
If you truly know about SW you will know also that GEJ stands no chance whatsoever unless of course he impresses in the 2 years that he has left. Faseun is not a fool to work against himself in SW by teaming up with GEJ. Let GEJ deliver the dividends and he wont need to team with anyone. SW people are the most sophisticated voters in this country.

U gt it wrong man, not dat d sw dnt want to vote northerners, bt Gej was much loved by all then and thinking he from sou th south 4 d first time, and bng a graduate wil bring d positive change dat we want. i tell u, d sw are only holdng our peace till 2015 B4 we flush him out 4 a better person. so if ebele is banking on vote from d west, he is only wastng his time. And dat faseun too, what integrity and i nfluence did he has in south west 4 him to think he can deceive us and sell us out to pdp,by using upn as a coverup! like i said earlier, d old opc man is only wasting his bloody time, and better face d pipeline contract dat he gt, while d gng is stil good.
