Perpetrators Of Corruption Are Organised Labour Members – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday in Abuja called on organised labour to complement Federal Government’s efforts in fighting corruption in the country, noting that perpetrators of corruption are senior and junior members of labour unions.

Jonathan, who made the call at the Centenary May Day 2013 held at Eagle Square, however, called on the labour unions to organise a peer review programme with the objective of checking corruption and corrupt tendencies.

The President said such a programme would complement several efforts of the government in fighting the menace.

“Labour has been in the forefront of demanding for good governance and increased actions against corruption, and these issues are being vigorously tackled on various fronts.

“Prosecutions are being pursued in matters arising from fuel subsidy fraud, embezzlement of pension funds and other serious long-standing malpractices which have been demystified by this administration.

“Giving that some of these perpetrators are senior and junior members of labour unions, greater attention to peer review actions on the part of labour will be much appreciated,” he said.

Jonathan said the administration was leaving no stone unturned to upgrade the welfare of workers both in the private and public sectors.

“There is also a policy framework in place that will facilitate better relations between employers of labour and the government,’’ he said.

Jonathan called on labour to support government’s transformation agenda, which he said was geared toward creating jobs and wealth, and ensuring a better deal for Nigerians.

He said government was committed to creating a politically stable environment in which economic activities would flourish.

The President said the valuable contributions and sacrifices of the organised labour had assisted the government to achieve significant reforms in all sectors.

He extolled “the resilience and contributions of past labour leaders like Pa Michael Imodu and Pascal Bayfau, both of blessed memory’’.

Jonathan assured that government would continue to associate with the labour unions as they continue to play their roles in the nation-building process.(NAN)

Since he already knew these things are happening and knows the perpetrators, what else is stopping him from bringing them to book so that they can be a scapegoat to others.

Shifting responsibility!

Whats your problem with what he said? Itemise it instead of ranting. Are they not part of Labour? Pension chiefs, etc. Are you faulting the fact that they are not labour members whilst the President said they are Labour members?

How did we let him become President? Did you vote for him? Why moaning?

Ok. What stops him from using country's resources to prosecute them? Do we have Attorney General of Federation to just collect salaries? Your boy, Jona said he's been "prosecuting". I want to know who he has prosecuted so far. I will believe him if he starts his prosecution with Tony Anenih, Obasanjo and co.

Ah, you are missing the point! It is a meaningless statement. His statement bothers on the fallacy of association but actually worse. It is similar to saying "perpetrators of corruption are part of the human race so..."

But I won't call GEJ names over this...worthless statements are the bread and butter of politicians who lack ideas...Just open your eyes in 2015 !!!

The man is right. Can any politician steal without a CIVIL SERVANT? In fact they are the ones who will cover the thing for you.
If you are to start a probe now, one union would call for strike. So how would you fight. Remember ASSU, they were looking for 75yrs retirement age and went on strke for 3 months. They were even paid for not going to work for all the time of the strike.
Pension T(C)hief, Ghost workers, police, AGs in LGAs and states, its even the engineers in the ministries that monitor projects. So, which one would you talk about?
If LABOUR (civil service) SAY NO TO CORRUPTION, THEN IT WILL BE CUT BY 90%

Hey Brother you dont get it. This is an elected Head of States blaming the subjects for festering corruption. what then is his job? A leader is supposed to lead selflesslly, correct mistakes, impose (where deemed necessary), purnish (evil doers), and cleanse his/her subject of vices.

We have given him our mandate and trust to lead and direct us by voting him into power 2011.

What President Jonathan is simply saying in his speech is that Nigeria remains corrupt under him because civil servants have refused to be incorruptible. This is simply buck-passing.

A more intelligent former President Obasanjo has challenged anyone, everyone to blame him for anything, all things that transpired under his rule as the Head of States and not his Lieutenants.

President Jonathan unfortunately know how to use Presidential powers to hound gov. Amaech, he knows how to use the same powers to stop pension thief Maina from being prosecuted, he used the same Presidential powers against the poor masses by removing subsidy in January 2012 but he has not been able to use the power to reduce corruption in the system.

THIS IS SHAMEFUL SO SHAMEFUL!

Who ran down NITEL?
Who ran down NEPA / PHCN?

Who ran down our refineries.

This has been my position that the average Nigerian working for government is a thief.
Those who wish to crucify Jonathan for saying the truth should go ahead but the fact remains that in country where parents pay money for someone else to write exam fro their child will continue to produce a generation of corrupt people.

Leaders must lead.

If the Presidency lead by example, small fish (like civil servants) would feel comfortable accusing their ogas of corruption.

When the President himself pardons and protects thieves, no one feels safe enough to say no.

I wonder if nlanders ever have d intention of getting on dat hot seat one day. What goes around comes around. We can make our points but in a respectful manner. Do unto others wat u want done to u and say unto others wat u want said unto u. Its true our president aint trying bt we can only complement til he leaves office for our own good.

When did Alams and co. Thieving Governors & ex-govs become organized labour?
When did Bode George and co. Rogue politicians become organized labour?
Is it organized labour that wants to spend N4 billion on First Ladies' Mission House?
Is it organized labour that spent billions on VP's House?

Seems insulting and criticising Jonathan harshly has become a hobby for some people!

Who does most of the stealing in Govt? Is it not civil servants? Are they not members of organised labour just as he stated? Think well before you run your mouth. By the way GEJ is not the only person in Govt so don't attack only him if you feel you must rant over his Govt's failure they're others to chew as well.
