Congratulations to all JAMB 2013 candidates out there. For those of you who were able to score 200 and above I say kudos to you.
However, the greater hurdle lies ahead with the Post UTME examinations conducted by the various institutions. One thing for sure is that your JAMB result is likely to account for 50% of your aggregate score that will qualify you for admission.
That automatically means that the Post UTME will account for the remaining 50% of the score. A little piece of advice for the prospecting students. PREPARE! PREPARE!! PREPARE!!!
The more informed you are, the better your chances are of scaling this remaining hurdle without much sweat. Get as much information as possible concerning your school(s) of choice, course, examination question types, the school culture etc.
And very importantly, acquaint yourself with the past questions and examination guides.
For those that will scale this year's Post UTME and gain admission, I say congrats in advance.

JAMB Result does not guarantee Admission, says Unilag VC

"Those who chose University of Lagos as first choice and scored 200 and above would be invited to come and write Post-UTME. We (Unilag) are the most subscribed University in the whole of Nigeria and normally, we don't take more than 10% of them for admission and by the time the admission list is compiled, you can come back and I will give you the real statistics of those who make it through. It wouldn't still be different if the 50% of the applicants had scored above 300 marks. That does not count." said Prof Rahamon Bello, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

He was speaking in an interview with Guardian newspaper over the weekend.

For those applying for admission into Unilag, e-learning Nigeria offers a turn key learning solution for Post-UTME 2013/14 preparation. Visit www.e-learningnigeria.com

NUC warns varsities against unapproved post-UTME fee

THE 59th National Council on Education (NCE) meeting was concluded at the weekend in Abuja in agreement that the National Universities Commission (NUC) will sanction universities that charge above the approved post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) fee of N2,000.00.

The umbrella education decision body also approved the Isoko language curriculum in selected schools.

The Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, urged the NUC to enforce and regulate a uniform fee by the tertiary institutions for the admission examinations nationwide.

She stressed that the NCE’s theme on “Strengthening the institutional management of education for quality service delivery” is apt on educational improvement in the country.

Rufa’i emphasised developments to improve the sector to include “access and equity with the commencement of Almajiri education in 27 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); the integration of Albinism education into the school system and campaigns on girls’ education in the North and boys’ education in the South.”

She said that teacher-development and motivation, technical and vocational education and training, development and deployment of ICT in education, school census, public-private partnership, adult and non-formal education are cornerstone of the sector’s growth.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, said that the meeting was an indication of commitment to address the challenges in the education sector and consensus building in policy development and implementation.

He noted that the ministry has commenced the process of addressing the challenges of institutional management through Needs Assessment and Impact Assessment conducted in the Unity Colleges and public universities in 2012.

The NCE approved the revised nine-year basic education curriculum, with effect from 2014 beginning with Primary 1 and Junior Secondary School 1, and that the admission ratio of students in science and trade subjects into technical colleges should be 30 and 70.

The body agreed that every student in federal and state science and technical colleges must offer a technical subject.
