Reasons for rule 17 naptu2: Let me see if I remember correctly (I can't find the thread at the moment). Years ago someone threatened Seun. He had had enough of the attacks, criticism and insults against Islam/muslims and reminded Seun that, although nairaland is an "anonymous forum", Seun can be easily identified in real life. naptu2: Haven't found the thread yet, but I found a blogpost that referred to it. The blog post brought back some memories. |

Can't you all see that these laws have being in existence from the origin of nairaland. if you look closely, this post was made by seun himself back in 2005, the birth year of nairaland. All seun is doing is to remind us of the rules incase we've forgotten............ |

@seun please modify the rule that explicity mentions islam. Let it read thus: 17. Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to any Religion on any section. 6 Likes |

I think people would have a better understanding of the problem if they could read the person's letter themselves, but in the light of recent developments, I'm not sure it would be safe to post the link. 1 Like |

17. Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to Islam, especially in the muslim section. Going by the above rule, Seun I must tell you that you are a disappointment. What will go wrong if you also say "Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to CHRISTIANITY"? If Facebook respects Christianity so much then any other religion, will it get to where it is today? 5 Likes |

As good as these your rules may be, you can't control what's happening on Nairaland. The number of posters is far out number the moderators. You may adjust nairaland codes not to publish post immediately until it is proof read by the moderators before it is published, but how many moderators will Nairaland employ. The only solution to this is to entirely close down Nairaland. And Seun this is a warning to you. Nigeria is gradually drifting towards anarchy, try as much as possible to hide your identity or ensure you are at alert and anytime the political gladiators are looking for you, you can follow the NADECO route out of Nigeria. 8 Likes |

I think Seun should be the bigger man by pardoning and unbanning all banned monikers on the anniversary of Nairaland just as governors and presidents pardon certain prisoners during anniversaries. This will also help curb the idea of opening several monikers which does not help in assessing the real number of NL members. 1 Like |

this is nothng but sharia law Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to Islam, especially in the muslim section.they can insult other religion as long as its not islam? what nonsense Don't attempt to post censored words by misspelling them.just imagine this Don't create a new account when banned for breaking a rule. If you do, make sure we don't find out.seriously? Always post in proper English. The use of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation is compulsory.that means i have to be wole soyinka or chinua achebe before i can post on nairaland. choi this one pass sharia law by the way i expect to see something about "price of gari" and "first to comment" that has earned people a lot of ban ... but it aint there only trivial things i guess its all because there is no competition for nairaland yet.. when good competition comes ...then am outta here 10 Likes |

Madness of the first order Are kids or what? We shouldn't use gifs? So christainity is meant to be insulted and our God called our sorts of profane names but when it comes to islam, we are gagged? And yet we're complaining about corruption from our leaders, when it's happening here on NL SMDH!!! 6 Likes |

Rule No. 17 is an insult on the sensibilities of other religions. Are you saying it is ok for an extremist muslim or atheist to say things against Christianity or Jesus Christ? Is Islam superior to other religions that it should be singled out in this manner? 2 Likes |

It's fun and nice to scream "no internet censorship", but like the guy that advised Seun made clear, "this is an anonymous forum. We don't know who a member is. But the only person that is not anonymous is you Seun". If you contravene these rules and something happens, you might go scot free, but the law knows Seun. Therefore, Seun must protect his interests. 2 Likes |

I totally disprove rule number 17. Its more like favouring a particular sect or religion. With the above rule, I won't be surprised if I see another rule stating "don't insult the southerner (eastern) ..... 1 Like |
