whatsapp is the trending chat app. though it has it's flaws, once you join, you will be discoverable by anybody that gets hold of your phone number. there are some people in my contact list i wont like to chat with though they have my number. all the same it is cool

The answer to that is simple: It is as good as BBM and better in that it is a cross-platform application as you can still use it on any phone to chat with people as long as their phone number is on your phone book and they have the app on their phone too.

Whatsapp is very useful application for pinging just like blackberry, it run under symbian, andriod, windows, java and iphone operating system.
With whatsapp you can ping other whatsapp user and blackberry users as well, share pictures, videos and other files.
your phone number is your pin unlike BB. The greatest advantage of whatsapp is that network donot charge you as you are pinging.

PROBLEM WITH WHATSAPP NOW IS THAT THEY HAVE DISABLED ITS USE IN SOME NOKIA PHONES THAT IT USED TO WORK IN BEFORE. E.G NOKIA C3 01.

There are so many useless applications out there. I don't waste my time on them. Facebook, Email, Twitter is just enough for me. Especially when other social media like Nairaland, Naij.com, and Sahara Reporters are also there to complement the other ones.

For me it was a good alternative to BBM. I don't have a BB and I don't intend to get one since I don't know of any value in it for me. So downloading Whatsapp on my smartphone is really fantastic for me.

i don't know about other platforms but I ran it on android and the app was just great. It automatically syncs your phone contacts with the app and checks which of those contacts are on chaton. It is also data-friendly (it uses very little of your data resources.). Problem I faced was being unable to use the app on Wifi network and being unable to login with a different sim card.
