Thanks cool

A state of emergency is a situation in which the Nigerian president suspends the regular executive and legislative functions of a state in Naija. Therefore, the governors of the aforementioned states and the State Houses of Assembly have been put on suspension. It's likely that GEJ will appoint an administrator to run those states temporarily.

Thank you dear

DICKtator: Jonathan Imposes State of Emergency on Boko Haram States

In a broadcast to the nation at 7pm today, Tuesday the 14th of 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan declared a State of Emergency on some states in Northern Nigeria in response to the escalation of violence and terrorist activities occasioned by the violent Islamic sect, Jam'atu Ahlis Sunnah L'dda'awatih wal-Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram.

so my question is what will be different from before? how does it change anything? there are troops all over these places, does that mean there will be more troops? I understand the president is out of options and has been pushed to the wall but am just curious how this stops bombs going off. the initial state of emergency produced zero results. guerrilla warfare is extremely difficult to execute. at the end more innocents will die at the hands of the terrorists and troops. but I hope am wrong. I want GEJ TO SUCCEED

State of Emergency in the North is a codeword for restricting democracy and autonomy of the Muslim North and subjugate Muslims under this Xtian Crusader government. We know this is what the South wants. Maybe they're bankrolling BH and other "Islamic" groups all along to get what they want.

He should have done this year's ago and BH wouldn't have done as much damage as they have done. What would it had cost him to sweep the entire north with soldiers and annihilate the insurgency of the north.

babyosisi: Can somebody intelligent explain to me what it means in practical terms

Ordinarily, It means that the military would take over the civilian regime.

However GEJ version which is more democratic I must say, the governors are to continue with their legally appointed roles as public office holders, but they have no say in security whatsoever, as their powers have been relinquished to the military administrator appointed by the chief of defence staff. Who now has sweeping powers in the 3 affected states.

Here is a short precise excerpt of the speech

BEEGEAGLE’S BLOG
14 May, 2013

That is the main plank of a special address delivered by President Jonathan at 1900hrs today

- State of Emergency declared in the northeastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

- Chief of Defence Staff ordered to immediately deploy more troops with sweeping powers to vigorously combat insurgents and to destroy any facilities used by terrorists

- Governors and political office holders in the affected states to continue in the execution of their offices
