Oyo govt, Wemabod begin construction of 4,000-shop complex in Ibadan
Written by
Friday, May 17, 2013

OYO State government and Wemabod Estates Limited have commenced a joint construction of an ultra-modern business complex expected to accommodate not lesser than 4,000 shops and 20 warehouses in Ibadan, the state capital.
The complex, which would be completed within nine months, is located at Samonda area of the Ibadan metropolis.

When completed, the project will boast of such facilities as a police post, banks, clinics, industrial borehole for supply of potable water, fire station, streetlights, toilets, worship centres and administrative block.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi, while laying the foundation stone of the business complex, said that it would be a state-of-the-art shopping complex upon completion. He described the project as another giant stride in his government's urban renewal programme, stressing that the event was the second of such in the history of his government.

He disclosed that the Neighbourhood Shopping Complex at Scout Camp, Challenge, Ibadan, whose foundation was laid earlier in the year, would be inaugurated within the next two weeks.

Governor Ajimobi reiterated that the transformation agenda of his administration was put in place to correct the ills of the past and strategically reposition the state for enhancement and promotion of its socio-economic prosperity for the benefit of the people of the state.

To this end, the governor said the institutional frameworks, which hitherto had been weak, were now being strengthened daily, adding that very soon, the strength of government institutions would be firm, thereby creating a solid foundation for future administrations to build upon for enhancement of good governance.

He assured the people of the state that specific measures had been put in place for the realisation of the transformation agenda, so that by 2015, the state would become one of the most conducive places for socio-economic activities in Nigeria. The governor stressed that the urban renewal policy of his administration was not meant to witch hunt any individual or group, but aimed at taking the state out of the doldrums.

He also assured genuine market men and women in the state, who were affected by his government's urban renewal exercise, that all of them would be comfortably relocated.

No pictures available with the article. If such existed, it would be architectural renders or photos of ceremonial turning of sod. Encouragingly, the project has a completion target time of 9 months and WEMABOD should be able to deliver decently.
In any case, this is not the first shopping complex Ajimobi is showcasing.

Gov Ajimobi Constructs Business Complex In Ibadan

It seems you did not get the memo that these neo-progressives have no plan for the poor.
They are only focused on their fellow elites forgetting that no matter how fresh a vegetable looks no quality person will want anything to do with it once they know it was grown on a refuse dump.

Meanwhile today's so called elites are mostly, if not all, from poor parents who escaped poverty because of the mass education, scholarship, bursary and genuine, sustainable poverty alleviation initiatives of the Action Group led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo who was Western region premier for only six years (1954-1960) as well as the UPN governors who had only four years (19879-1983) to turn around the mess of khakhi MILADS.

BTW, are all the shopping complexes built by previous administrations fully occupied to warrant building another or this is simply to waste the borrowed money and fedral allocation by Ajimobi

If, as OP, I ignore those sort , I know precisely what I am doing. They add no value to these sort of discussions and I prefer to hear from objective stakeholders like you, whether for or against, and not entertain those who simply come without even the smallest the capacity to give credit where due. Every single contribution is entrenched in mindless negativity. There are some here who can never ever have anything good to say about some ethnic groups or political Party. Best to ignore those sort because they never have anything sensible or good to contribute.

Look at the restored Bodija bridge below that constituted a grave pain because it was not repaired for ages under the bleaching Governor. Even something as clear-cut and as commendable as that would still attract only negative comments from the charlatans you address. They will shout about cost or even lie that some people stand by the bridge to only allow prestige vehicle access while the "poor" are turned away. There will never be a comment, from these sad folks, about how the bridge ameliorate the sheer transport misery of actual stakeholders.

Oyo adopts PPP for Mass Rehabilitation of Hospitals
Posted in Press/News on May 2, 2013

The Oyo State Government is set to carry out comprehensive rehabilitation of Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan and other state-owned health facilities through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement with foreign and local consultants.

The State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi disclosed this in Ibadan on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of the Malaria Control Partners comprising the USAID Washington and President Malaria Initiative in his office.
Governor Ajimobi said that this was part of his administration’s efforts at revitalizing the health sector and improving the health status of the people of the State.
He said that under the new arrangement, medical doctors and other health practitioners would take over the equipping and the running of the hospitals while the State Government would subsidize the running cost in order to enhance easy accessibility for the citizenry.
“We have started to equip our hospitals. We are now going to introduce what we call Public Private Partnership in some of our health centres and hospitals.
“We will bring in doctors and practitioners who will equip and run the hospitals while the Government will subsidize the cost. We are starting with Adeoyo Hospital in the next three months,” he said.
Governor Ajimobi said his administration had taken a lot of steps to improve health care delivery in the State citing the free health mission initiative through which over half a million people had been freely treated as one of the steps.

He commended the efforts of the Malaria Control Partners towards the eradication of malaria in Nigeria, while also pledging the support of his administration towards total eradication of the scourge in the State.
“We are committed to the eradication of malaria in Oyo State. Malaria is number one killer of our people, even more than AIDS. We will use everything we have to eradicate malaria. We have taken a lot of steps towards improving the health status of the people of the State,” the Governor stated.

In his remarks the Presidential Malaria Advisor, Dr. George Greer lauded the efforts of the Ajimobi administration in malaria eradication, stressing that over N2billion had been invested in malaria control in the State.
“I want to express our appreciation to the Oyo State Government for its efforts in reducing the rate of malaria. The collaboration with your state has provided positive results and we will always give the State the necessary support in the eradication of malaria,” he said.
The net State Ambassador and wife of the State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi said the mosquito treated nets had been widely accepted by the people of the State, adding that, by Year 2015, malaria would have been reduced to zero level.

Ajimobi is not a noise-maker but his CV always indicated he would perform very well. Started slow but that may just be because he wanted to be aware of the full picture. His idea of relegating government and the private sector to funding health while giving involved professionals, like doctors et al, more powers to shape the health sectors is a very good one. Minimise bureaucracy and let those who are involved make the changes while Government provide funds.

Instructive you mention the motor park boys. What I have found singularly most impressive about the ACN is the quick turnaround of the status-quo enshrined by the PDP whereby thugs and illiterate were more powerful and visible, in affairs of governance, than they should be.

Now, the best and most fundamentally desirable political scenario any sensible Nigerian can ask for is the norm in the SW i.e the meritoriously best leaders are now supported to gain offices they can use to shape society for the better. No Party in Nigeria is perfect but every State and region stands a chance of getting it right if, after the political shenanigans has been played out, there is still a standard of merit no one is allowed to go below. This simple concept is very important as it delivers progress in the end however dire things look.

You are right. Naturally, people should say the truth and give credit where due instead of playing politics, every single time, to the extent they can only contribute lies and mindless negativity. If any administrator is working and delivering, then Nigerians should move beyond sectional/political affiliation to acknowledge this. After all, when all is said and done, issues , for balanced and well-adjusted folks, remain about progress for every corner of Nigeria.

Nonetheless, some folks are incorrigible and a waste of time as far as the concept of giving credit where due is concerned. They simply do not come with the capacity to do what you ask.

Since you joined this thread, you have not made a single attempt to address the topic under discussion. All your inputs have been negative and irrelevant. Can you simply comment relevantly and in context? Do you have an opinion on the topic or do you want to only show us that slums still exist in Oyo?
