LG Display is prepping to demonstrate a newflexible smartphone panel that promises to be unbreakable.
The new screen is set to pop up at this week’s SID Display Week 2013, an annual exhibition that showcases display products. The OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology used in the screen is thinner, lighter, and more flexible than conventional LCD displays.
According to LG, the screen “comes at a crucial time when smart devices are being used more than ever and at increased risk for damage from drops, hits, and other accidents.”
Last month, LG vice president of mobile, Yoon Bu-hyun, revealed that the company plans to launch a smartphone with a flexible OLED screen in the fourth quarter.
But other companies are also eyeing the technology. At the Computer Electronics Show in January, Samsung demoed a flexible display technology called Youm, which it said will allow its partners to create bendable, rollable, and foldable displays.

LG's new technology could save smart phones owners a lot of MONEY in the near future—that's if what they're claiming holds true. The company is set to demo a new 5-inch flexible smartphone panel that promises to be, somewhat unbelievably, both bendable and unbreakable.
