Atheists, What Do You Think About Revenge? by Nobody: 9:23am On Jun 03, 2013 |
Bad things happen to atheists all the time. We are bullied, hated, despised, cheated and maltreated just because we refuse to believe. -Just yesterday, a fellow Nairalander said that atheism justifies r.apists and murderers and he felt that he didnt abuse anyone with that statement. (*cough* Anony) -Leo Igwe said that he has tried numerous times to register a humanist group in Nigeria but he has been denied many times despite following all the rules These are just two examples of discrimination we face as atheists ================================================================================ Now, the question is- how do we react to such discrimination? This is a very difficult thing for me. I am always angry. Always. But as a humanist, I dont believe in violence and so, I never act on my anger. I smile or keep a poker face even though I'm am boiling inside. Can you believe that someone that works under an atheist is saying that people who dont believe in God are witches and deserve to be arrested? This happened to my atheist friend who has just been promoted to an assistant manager at his workplace. My friend was bitter because of this. He was telling me that it was just sheer luck that he didnt fire the foolish employee that made that anti-atheist rant. He hasnt fired the employee even as we speak. My friend has probably moved on. Sometimes, I just look at the faces of some religious (the bigoted ones) people and I truly want them to suffer. However, the rational side of my brain keeps me at bay because that would make a wicked person like them and violence is not a solution. But I tell you, it is hard. It is truly hard to be good. There is no temptation like revenge. For instance, someone that depends on my support telling me that I am fool for not following his religion. It is very tempting for me to stop goving that person aid but if I do, the person would have no means of support. For me and many atheists, revenge is out of the question. But the anger doesnt just go away. I have a bright future and I know that I will be great very soon. But power is very tempting.....it is very easy to punish people from wronging you when you have power..................with great power comes great responsibility |

What do you mean? Do you need to be good? What prevents you? And who or what is tempting you? Is there a Satan too in your worldview? |

Ihedinobi: Are you trolling? Surely if you read the op, you would know that it is religious bigots who tempt atheists like me to reciprocate the wickedness back to them. But personally, I dont because I will not stoop to the level of a bigot and act like them There is a logical need to be good. One good turn deserves another. Everyone loves a hero. The world moves faster when everyone co-operates. |

Logicboy03: Really? Religious bigots tempt you, do they? So the Satan in your worldview are religious bigots. Ok. There is a logical need to be good. One good turn deserves another. Everyone loves a hero. The world moves faster when everyone co-operates. What logical need? How come a good turn deserves anything at all? Why should anyone love a hero? Who cares about the world and how fast it moves? That is, in your worldview? |

Ihedinobi: This is what I truly despise. How can you interprete my secular statement with christianity? What does Satan have to do with religious bigots trying to bully me? Or do you thnk that the word "temptation" was formed when the devil pushed eve to eat the fruit? Dont be silly. It is arrogant and insensitive to try and apply such backwards christian thinking to a simple statement by an atheist. |

@ logicboy for God sake don't keep your anger boiling inside you. You have to let it out.. You have to be mature about it and There is no need to be violent but don't keep emotions bottled inside of you...The irony is that putting up a facade and keeping so called negative emotions inside will eventually erupt in a violent manner.. all violent acts are due to repressed anger and hate.. If/when something or someone makes you angry express it in a mature way and try to solve the problem with the person.. On the topic of discrimination you have to understand that most religious people are ignorant and only acting on their ignorance .. so show love to those who discriminate against and wish them no harm.. two wrongs do not make a right.. we are all one-- The religious , the non religious like me and you atheists.. we are all GOD in flesh.. when you harm another you are only really harming yourself because we are all one-- 2 Likes |

surprised. well, i don't forgive that easily. i don't even pretend to. sorry bro, but I have nothing against revenge. for instance, that your friend's subordinate will/must apologize or he will be fired. Differences in opinions can be tolerated but not insubordination. but that's just me. 1 Like |
