This year marks the 20th anniversary of the infamous June 12.

The Oyo and Osun state governments on Monday declared Wednesday as work free to commemorate the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, cancelled by the military government of the time.

In a statement in Ibadan, Festus Adedayo, the Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Media, said the holiday was to mark the 20th anniversary of the election, adjudged the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s political history.

The statement said the holiday was also a recognition of the martyrdom of the late Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the election.
It said Mr. Abiola ought to be honoured for laying down his life for Nigerians to enjoy democratic governance.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Information in Osun, Sunday Akere, said in a statement in Osogbo that the holiday was to recognise when an election adjudged the freest and fairest in Nigeria was annulled.
Mr. Akere said that June 12 would continue to stand for democracy and good government and as such nothing was too much to honour the day.
Ogun State had on Sunday also declared June 12 a public holiday.

THE Ekiti State government has declared Wednesday work-free day for workers in the state.

A statement from the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo said the work free day was declared by the state government in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election believed to have been won by the late Chief MKO Abiola.

It added that Governor Kayode Fayemi is expected to lead top government functionaries to the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti for a forum organised to remember heroes and heroines of democracy who paid important roles during the struggle to restore democracy in Nigeria.

20th anniversary? Time flies so fast.
Remember those days of "oso Abiola"? We were all sent to the east for fear of Lagos
being bombed by the Military. A lot of people lost their lives on there way to the village.
Naija my country, I hail ooo!

I commend my South West brothers and sisters. I also wish you people a happy holiday tommorow.
JUNE 12 should serve as a lesson to Ndi-Igbo in general. If we actually value the Lives lost by our people in the Crisis of '66 to '70, then we should take a day as a regional holiday. I mean our Governors and not MASSOB.
If it were OPC that called for a holiday, I doubt people will listen. But in Ala-Igbo, we have MASSOB calling for a sit-at-home. (I have nothing against MASSOB).

Obasanjo implement may 29 in order to let people forget the pain of June 12, I can see how brother from the same lineage do this to themselves for selfish reason, Abiola will always be remember coz i will never forget the pain of the Nigeria.

Even the North and the south should also respect June 12 because they all love MKO( Money, Kudi, Owo)
