Glo Pay As You Go by Nobody: 11:00am On Jun 15, 2013
Has anyone else received this message from glo and tried it?

Dear Customer, browse the internet at 1000 times lower 'Pay As You Go Data' rate of 0.05kobo/Mb. Just use N100 worth of data today. Enjoy Glo Unlimited!!!

From my calculations, 1GB data should cost N50. 10GB=N500, 100GB=N5000.

Or am I missing something?

On the contrary, your calculation is faulty. Mb means megabits and its not the same as MB (megabytes)- small letter 'b' for bits and capital letter 'B' for bytes. Try recalculating. 8bits = 1byte; so 1Mb (1024bits) = 128Bytes (i.e 1024 divided by 8bits).
This means that one is paying 0.05k per 128Bytes of data downloaded. If 128Bytes cost 0.05k then 1Byte will cost 0.05/128kobo(i.e 0.00039k).

Remember that 1KB(1kilobyte) = 1024Bytes. It then means that 1KB(1024bytes) costs 0.00039 * 1024 = 0.39936kobo(approx. 0.4kobo per KB)
Also remember that 1MB = 1024KB; therefore 1024KB(or 1MB) will cost 0.399936 * 1024 = 408.94464kobo
1GB(which equals 1024MB) will then cost 408.84464* 1024 = kobo = 418759kobo = NGN 4187.59

In summary, 0.05k/Mb is equivalent to 0.4k/KB. This means 1MB = N4 and 1GB = N4000 at that rate.

These GSM network guys know what they are doing. They just want to confuse Nigerians. Do NOT be fooled into thinking that it is very cheap. Even though it is cheaper than former 5k/KB, that rate is still exorbitant.

If you feel this calculation is inaccurate or erroneous do not hesitate point it out or better still, notify me.

Which one? Cos the calculation elucidated in the post before yours perfectly nails it and is very logical. Well unless GLO themselves come out to prove otherwise. This is STILL a rip-off. We need more affordable packages and at least a package that offers UNLIMITED bandwidth. Need i mention, Android Users Demand Fairness too grin
