Okay, so i’m not a huge fan of the BBA series (believe me, I quite frankly think it’s boring and I have better things to do with my time than watching other people live their lives. I don’ t think it’s much better than watching the Khardashians) but I really don’t subscribe to the fact that there is nothing you can learn from the series like most (hypocritical) Nigerians bandy about. Think i’m lying? Well, here are a few things you can learn from Big Brother Africa!

1) You can learn about other African cultures: Fact is that a lot of us (especially us Nigerians who pride aourselves as being the giants of Africa) are completely ignorant about other people’s cultures and lifestyles. Big Brother Africa brings together people from a swathe of African countries in one place and you get to watch them on TV. They will definitely talk, of course and while talking would refer to their culture and traditions back home and, if you’re attentive enough, you could learn one or two things about other African countries.

2) You can learn about the state of affairs in other African countries: This is similar to my previous point. Most of us don’t even read news about other African countries. Infact, for most Nigerians, Nairaland is their source of news (even when the news has no source, no pun intended!). Again, housemates in the BBA house will talk/discuss about current issues happening back home and how they might have been affected by the, You listen, You learn.

3) You get to study how a diversity of people react in closed confines: Believe me when I say the BBA house is really like Nigeria (immorality, hypocrisy and all, lolz). You have a diversity of people living together in close proximity. What happens pretty much mirrors what happens in our country. You see petty quarrels, temporary alliances, back stabbing, unity to achieve a common purpose that affects everyone and small factions developing. It is a microcosm of a community where different people have to live together. Studying how they react to each other might give you insight into how larger society works.

4) You get to see certain parts of human behavior that you’ve probably not seen before: If you think you’ve seen it all, believe me, you’ve seen nothing yet. One thing I’ve noticed in the BBA house is that nearly everyone has at least one person that rubs them off the wrong way and one person they like. Living in closed confines can make certain people do things you would not have expected of people with their personality. It brings out certain traits and characteristics you might not have previously noticed and may help you figure out certain similar people in your life.

5) You get to examine yourself and learn more about yourself; What many people think when they watch BBA or hear about “shower hour” is “oh, I can’t do that!”. Well, that may be true, but that is just one question out of many you might answer for yourself while watching BBA. Take for instance, if asked to evict someone, you’ll ask yourself wh and why……then you might see similaritiess between that person and someone you already know and examine how you relate with that person. If you are the deep kind, watching BBA might help you realize certain aspects about yourself and your own personality you didn’t know. Seriously, it does!

So there they are; five things you could learn from watching Big Brother Africa. Having said that, I still think it makes boring watching so don’t expect me to start giving highlights of the show on this blog; I won’t.

And as for those screaming about shower hour, it’s not on regular view, if I remember correctly. It’s onlyy for premium subscribers. Some of you watch porn . I can hardly see the difference.
