The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has warned former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, to rescind his decision to impose his young daughter, Shade Tinubu-Ojo, as the new leader of the state’s marketwomen.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary Taofik Gani, the Lagos PDP said that “the much-touted democrat should allow the simple tenets of democracy to prevail in the selection of a new leader for the market women, more so as there is no cogent evidence that his nominee and daughter is a full-time market woman.”

Ex-governor Tinubu had announced his decision during the 8th day fidau prayer for Abibatu Mogaji, his foster mother and former leader of Market Women in Lagos.

The statement said that Tinubu plans to confirm this choice to market leaders at a meeting he has summoned to hold on Tuesday at his residence.

“This new development portends great danger for our democracy and indeed Lagos’ integrity. We are thus calling on the State Governor, Raji Fashola, not to sit on the fence at this auspicious time.

“Fashola must rise up and be counted now. He must exhibit control in governance especially when Tinubu’s interest conflicts with the public interest. He must see to it that the process leading to the emergence of market leader and any other leadership in the state is transparent, liberal and credible.

“Politics must not be overplayed to erode human decency and respect for due process. Any act that would break down the assumed peace in the state must indeed be avoided,” concluded the statement

Lagos PDP is a bunch of jobless individuals who are on high alert to listen and watch whatever the opposition does so that they can release some nonsense statement. It's not even like Iyaloja is a political position so why are they barking about it.

It is the Oba of Lagos that can confer on anyone of his choosing the title of Iya Loja. Even though a lot of politics is involved in the selection, his decision remains final. Tinubu's daughter is not an Iya Loja of any market in Lagos, so there is no way Tinubu can impose her as Iya Loja of Lagos.

Pardon my ignorance...Is the Iyaloja not a chieftaincy title ?
If it is,then Tinubu does not have the power to instal one,it is supposed to be the prerogative of the Oba of Lagos.
The Oba has the right to install anyone he so wishes as long as the person is of impeccable character.
The PDP has no right to question the Oba on who he instal as the Iyaloja or any other title for that matter ,they should leave Tinubu alone

The title of iya oloja is exclusively given by the oba of Lagos,so Tinubu has limited influence on it.

If this story is true,then it seems Lagos has turned to another kwara state in the making,where the late slave trader called Saraki turned it to his personal property.

The PDP should be scared ooo. The title of "Iyaloja" might seem so traditional and silly but when the opposition become the person in control of all the markets in Lagos and by extension, a demi god to the market men and women, you should be scared.

We all know that Tinubu's mum was a factor in the 1999 elections as all she did was tell her women to vote her son. This people are powerful and influential so they would want someone who is close to them to get it.

Unfortunately for the PDP, they don't have a good relationship with Oba Rilwon Akinolu and the ACN does thanks to Mr Bode George and this will bite them in the backside.

They have already started losing 2015 from 2013

Tinubu might just have shot himself in the foot by so doing. At present, I'm still livid that his wife is the senator for Lagos. Making his sister an iyaloja would just be adding salt to injury.

The Oba should think thrice o.

Does Tinubu own Lagos ni? If he continues like this, it will get to a point when Lagosians will stand up against him. He should try as much as possible not to be seen imposing people especially his family members if he still want to be allowed by lagosians to be eating from the coffers of the state.

Anyone the Oba chooses will still be a relative of Tinubu whether you like it or not

If you want to protest, talk about his wife who is a senator or something else but the title of Iyaloja is one that passes in the family. There is nothing anyone can do except the gods chose someone else which is gonna spark a mini war.

How is the head of market people hereditary. I'm i missing something? Which Lagos are we talking about btw? Lagos Island or Lagos state. There's no such thing a Lagos traditional stool. Oba Rilwan's relevance ends on the island. I also heard Tinubu's mother was the Iyaloja of Nigeria too. is that one hereditary too?
