The Culture Of Verbal Assaults On Nairaland Is Sad And Alarming! by Nobody: 11:50am On Jun 24, 2013
At first, when I came aboard NL I was of the impression it was a lair for scam-artists, rogues, recalcitrant and lazy never-do-wells. But like the saying goes, I was in error of judging a book by its front cover.
After a long period of absence from the site following my presumptions, I logged-in one faithful day to a number of very interesting articles I had never known existed herein...actually, I was of the erroneous impression NL was a market place for adverts and the likes. And so when I came across the various classifications, topics and threads, and most of all, the articulated display of knowledge and wit in every posted category, I was 'wow'ed!
I got converted there and then, praying the heavens to forgive my earlier hasty generalisations of ignorance, and 'wolfing down' every article and thread I came upon like a man who comes to an Oasis after many miles in a desert.
My addiction to NL new no bounds until I came across some unethical and immature conducts of some folks which I explained away as the exuberances of the few young ones in our midst,- the unnecessary foul languages and insults bandied about the slightest of provocations or perceived opposition to an upheld belief.
You see, I was brought up to respect diverging opinion and excuse unsavory behavior, but when these become a trend and pattern, I begin to worry how some of us were brought up, and under what conditions.

Funny enough, I discover it isnt the youths alone that are culpable of this uncouth behaviour.
Even some topic originators I had come to admire and considered following have gotten me so disillussioned recently with their shameless display of folly shrouded in fine grammar.

Hence, I have added another lesson to my study in Philosophy and it goes thus;
Good grammar,financial success and posting numerous topics on NL is no measure of maturity.
Thank u, for ur time.
:-)
