The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that its Kano-Lagos Inter-City passenger train was involved in an accident with a truck that was illegally obstructing the rail track.

A statement by the NRC’s Assistant Director Public Relations, Mr. David Ndakotsu, said the accident occurred around 3:p.m. monday, between Barkin Kasua and Kakau section of the track in Kaduna State, while the train was on a return journey to Lagos.

Few passengers were reported injured and had since been taken to the hospital for treatment. No death was reported as at the time of filing this report.

The corporation has sent a high-powered team of its engineering, operations and safety officials to the site of the accident.
Another accident involving a passenger train shuttling between Iddo and Agbado Station and a truck was recorded on Saturday evening in Lagos.

The accident, which occurred around the level crossing at PWD bus stop, in the Ikeja area of the state, left at least five persons
seriously injured. 

The injured persons were among those who hitch-hiked the train and were hanging on the train coaches.
The condition of the injured persons who were rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), was said to have 
stabilised and responding to treatment when our reporter checked at the hospital.

Gradually, rail transport and train services are being brought back. Great development.
But, the NRC or whatever body/ministry is responsible for train transport should work harder on safety procedures and reorientation of other road users where road and rail intersects.

These number of accidents is too many for one of the safest and secure mode of transportation in the world.

We need to get it right before heavy rail traffic starts.

With this kinda accidents recorded within a space of 2 days NRC should know that there is something they are not doing well and get their act together. They should mount all the necessary road signs, place their field workers at strategic places or even make them inspect the railway track b4 the train takes off. Above all they should create a jingle that will be played constantly on radios and televisions to jolt the mind of road user whom (not their fault anyway) has not come to the realization that NRC is back and operational, so as to be at alert and mindful of the tracks that intersect the main roads. Quick recovery to the injured!

It's stupid when avoidable accidents happen.

The truck driver should be shot and shot again.

The corporation should also have people to man the tracks at different locations...

What I don't understand is what are cars and trucks doing on train tracks. There is suppose to be some form of security measures when the trains are coming close to tarred roads.please if there no security they should reinstate security to curb all these accidents life is precious.

How dis accident take happen again? Ehn.. all means of transportation have is own platform and land.then how come did the accident happen? Did the car enter the rail track? Or it was the train that left his track?

I think the truck was intentionally parked on the track to derail the train. Anybody with common sense would know not to park on the tracks. If he doesn't have common sense then no amount of signs or signals would change anything. Like someone said....he should be shot....and shot again.

But these trains are just so uglyyy!
