Okayyyyyyyyyyy grin

I have one turning 17 in a bit. We have applied for a provisional license and he is getting a block of driving lessons as his birthday present.
When he passes his test, we are going to get him a banger. It will def make my life much easier. He can now run errands for me and I cease being the "glorified" taxi driver. He can now drive himself to the shops or wherever he wants to go cool grin

[s]it also means that he now has no reason to touch my car. [/s] grin

Aunty CC, I hail o wink

pafestula: Buying car as a gift for child or children, some people sees it as wrong moves and way of destroying their future or career, while some does not even attached any meanings to it. I don't want to sound sentimental here, as for me, if u are able to afford it for your children, I don't see such portraying any harms, some wealthy people still condemned the act, please matured response on Nairaland is seriously needed on this issue if the act is on point or off point, or when buying it, must it be lower cost of car or the act is totally off point? . Thanks

If you can afford it and they NEED it, I don't see why the hell not...which also depends on the kind of car you buy them but every case is different.

Have a good day.

its payback time ni grin

All those times I drove to football practice, those horrible 1.5 hour parties on a saturday afternoon, school . . too many to mention.

Lol.....I honestly can't wait to exact my pound of flesh on that count.

those 1.5 hour parties are the worst. By the time you drop them off have a chat with the other mums, and drive back home, you sit down for 10 minutes and its time to jump back in the car to go and pick them up them again. Sometimes I just sit outside and wait as its not worth going back home again. Imagine spending Saturday afternoon drinking coffee in macdonalds angry

Thank God for technology o. I am usually in the car playing with something on my phone or reading.

Depends on their age and responsibility. No clear cut or short answer as good or bad.

You must have done something that worths you having the car. Not a status upgrade.

Nashville: If your child needs a car and you can afford to buy one for him/her there is no reason why you cannot. What else are you storing the cash for? To spend in heaven? If that child falls down from an okada or gets robbed in a bus, then you start praying.

I wouldn't buy a brand new car for a 17 year old though!
i will not buy a car for an irresponsible child

My pops kept his promise to every child of his that upon graduation a car gift awaits.Even though I was given a one door golf,it still took me frm point A to point B...I even got married with the car,but ofcourse moved to better autos over the yrs...I shall up the ante' for my own kids...I'm bent on seeing my kids pursue any career of their choice in the Nigerian Navy,so I've started intimating them of my intention to get them new cars(and I shall,God willing)as soon as they conclude NDA and are decorated as officers of the Nigerian Navy.So I don't see anything wrong in buying cars for kids/young adults, cos we all turned out right...Gbam!

Its all about maturity.. My father gave me a car upon graduation from secondary school. Sold it when I entered the University and gave me another when I graduated from the University.
