TRY THIS

CSF FIREWALL

CSF with some settings to reduce or stop the attack
http://configserver.com/cp/csf.html

OR

(D)DoS Deflate Shell script

(D)DoS Deflate is a lightweight bash shell script designed to assist in the process of blocking a denial of service attack. It utilizes the command below to create a list of IP addresses connected to the server, along with their total number of connections. It is one of the simplest and easiest to install solutions at the software level.

OR
CLOUDFLARE

CloudFlare protects and accelerates any website online. Once your website is a part of the CloudFlare community, its web traffic is routed through our intelligent global network.
(but in my experience with them, they will always want you to upgrade if the attack is increasing)

Thanks for your concern.

I use CloudFlare free version to protect and accelerate my site, but they were unable to protect my site in this attack, so i change my NameServer back to my Host provider's (Ipage) Nameserver. After that, my site came UP.

Thanks once again.

The same Cloudflare that withstood the biggest DDoS attack in history (300Gb/s)?? Nah bro. . .You should upgrade to the Cloudflare Pro. . It is $20 per month for your first website and then $5 per month for each subsequent website.

This cloudflare na somehow joor, my client site was under ddos and we use them as our ddos provider. when the attack start getting high, they disable the domain from their system saying i should upgrade to the $200 monthly plan.

we stop the attack with SYN and PORTFLOOD setting with CSF and with the use of DDOS Deflate.

i think cloud-flare is good for CDN only.

and also in the real sense i do not think you can stop HEAVY DDOS on a software level
