"Service" as Macmillian dictionary of English will have us believe is "help that you give to someone, especially by using your skills, ability or knowledge"
In Nigeria, one of the numerous platforms for service is the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a one year compulsory (or should i say mandatory) service to the Nation...
Granted, we all love to serve our fatherland but at what cost? A situation where our supposed fatherland cannot stand up for us (corpers and Nigerians at large) is totally unacceptable especially when you consider the fact that our politicians, upon feeling a slight discomfort are already on board a flight to seek medical attention overseas... Yet, the scheme NYSC under whose platform Nigerian youths are made to endure so much stress, pain etc. is not in anyway affiliated/in a 'working partnership' with any Government owned(or private) health-care center or paralstatal, begs for serious questions...
A situation where a serving corps member is asked to take care of his/her medical bills when faced with health challenges, in assurance of complete refund upon tendering all the necessary receipts calls for an urgent overhaul of the system...
It's heart breaking that we (corps members at Ife-north L.G.A, Osun state) despite our concerted efforts as seen in regular contributions and visitations, lost a fellow corps member due to cancer of the blood on 02-07-2013... But what we don't understand is, why is NYSC interested in taking care of his funeral proceedings now instead of acting when he needed help the most, knowing that "a stitch in time saves nine"?
In all, we pray that may the gentle soul of Corper Folorunsho (2012 Batch C corps member, Ife North, Osun state) rest in peace...
Even as the question rages on, what good is it to die for your fatherland, when your fatherland cannot stand up for you #RIP FOLORUNSHO.

This is painful; may God grant the soul of the departed comrade eternal rest and comfort the family.
