28 years of her life until I came along. He has never even attempted to contact anyone to check up on her. But the rest of her family has tried to protect her
from the truth by lying to her and telling her he is a good person who simply has his priorities messed up in life. Plus I knew her father from a street bar, so I
know what kind of person he is and always will be. Now she is a medical Doctor and her father was brought to her hospital for treatment she specialized on, please any advise (good or bad) will greatly be accepted and welcome

Sad story, but all too common over here.

Her father staying away, was in her best interest. Serious drug addiction is no joke. It messes you up real good.

She is what she is now, a person whose made something of her life through sheer hardwork and a determination to succeed.

There isn't much she can do now except forgive him. The father already exists in his own personal hell. If she can, she should try wean him off the drugs (don't know how possible that is, seeing as he's been on them for nearly three decades). That, if she will, is the best gift she can give him - the gift of life - so he can live what few years he has left, clean, and with some semblance of dignity.

Her father leaving at the time could be the best thing to happen to her. He was and still a chronic drug addict, if he had stayed, he could have battered her life and that of the mother. She may not have become a medical doctor today.

She has the opportunity now to forgive him and help him with her medical skills. You never can tell maybe this will help him break his addiction. If she doesn't forgive him, the man will become bitter and live his life in regret which may lead to suicide.

She should forgive and let go..Its not by her strength alone she is what is today.

Good thing he's finally receiving the treatment he needs.

As per his gambling, that is the norm and to be expected of most drug addicts. They would do anything under the sun to feed their addiction, even if it means selling their close family member, they would do it if they can. It's not uncommon to see female drug addicts turning to prostitution to feed their habit, like wise in this man's case, he turned to gambling to feed his drug addiction habit.

Problem here is that prostitution and gambling are both negative vices, both of which can easily become addictive in their own right. It really is a viscous circle. If I were you, I would encourage his family to tender all the help and support they can give, to aid his quick recovery. He is at a vulnerable stage now.

How can you help a 28 year-old accomplished medical doctor?
She seems SMARTER and more accomplished than you! WHAT IS YOUR OWN PROFESSION? PROLLY JUMPING FROM BAR TO BAR WITH HER FATHER HUH EVEN AT YOUR YOUNG AGE? BIRDS OF A "FATHER"!!!!
