yuzedo: Awesome stuff! Congrats to the lad! I'm right behind him.. Gonna win the Caine & Booker Prizes by the time I'm done! Amen! cool

Na where you dey chop your Moi Moi and Beans...Akamu and pork pepper soup you go take win am? I need to see your stats in writing and by the way gear up, costa prize submission is on...You might wanna win it.

Writing is no beans, so many things are been checked and finally a winner emerges. I least expected Tope to clinch the award anyway its a miracle and his miraculous story did it for him but I think Judges of this prize do consider most Nigerians in the diasporans.

By the way, his story is the one of those not classified as poverty porn or what our dear chimamanda Adichie termed single story, others wrote on war, inter-ethnic clash and human rights and I don't even know where to classify tope's Miracle...And kai, abubakar's whispering trees though with its own flaws was a sure bet.

oshea44: Yoruba people dont brag of one thing, cos they got many... i wonder why igbos are so insecure, I am living in Canada and I met few African and whenever I talked to this African brothers who have igbo-Nigerian friends, they say Lagos is igbo state and owned by Igbos, what surprise me more, the same igbos will come online and start saying rubbish about Lagos-Yoruba. If Yoruba Ancestors were more smart and educated than others Tribe Ancestors, I think this Generation dont want that to happen, but fight with mouth and talk, Honestly, that wont help, cos Igbos generation has no achievement up till date, but deceived by the fake lives, igbo celebs lives on TV.. As long as I know, Achebe is only Igbo Legend and no one is denying that, who else Google Yoruba and see alot, Lets appreciate those people works and achievement.

What have you won on your own stupid? Stop counting another person's achievement or money. If you think you are good tell us your real name right and we wait when you make good history. What a cretin!

Where do these big headed tribalists come from? Yoruba...Yoruba. who asked you?

FYI...when it comes to Literature, story telling and winning awards...Ask of chimamanda adichie and her commonwealth price and her book purple hibiscus which is widely read even by your children in secondary schools..

Chika unigwe, Ibo, won the NLNG prize for literature last year. Caine prize is peanuts compared to these prizes...

If I drop a list you two will run...stop creating unsual sentiments out of nothing...

Don't go starting some ethnic shiat here man; it's a Nigerian thing and not some tribal disruptive influence

Caineprize £10,000

NLNG prize for literature $100,000

caineprize is for short stories while NLNG is for a whole book...google the sponsors and don't try to raise a blind argument. I don't say what I don't know...

As for that newbie busy trying to start a Yoruba Vs IGBO war...You're a learner. Your insecurities threaten you...

Orikinla: Great news.
Nigerians dominated the shortlist.

Nigerian writers have done more for Nigeria internationally than others.
We rock the world.
Indeed! The government and other bodies should organise training workshops for upcoming writers because there is an abundance of talent out there. It will be of more benefit to the country than all the numerous singing competitions that abound these present times.

Congrats to Tope. I want to be like him when I grow up grin

You should have seen the amount of tribalism on the Miss Nigeria thread.
But now, they're on the defensive undecided

I'm not suprise, going by the talented writers we have on NL not to talk of the whole country. Infact, I won't be shock if Nigerians win it every year. Congrat, Tope Folarin.

@ FRDchickenisha, dont worry. Wrap up that bragging abt yorubas producing current from urine; when it cums to manufacturing sth out of nothing, leave it for igbos.

U lot should stop bringing posts here and there just to challenge igbos all the time. We are not on d same level at all. We don leave una since.....

O God have mercy on nigeria. U can hardly see an effecient libary in D whole nation. No good bookshop in a whole ethnic group. All we strive for is food. Of course it got to be food, whn D money is valuless how can one spare it other than for food. Thats how we dont have a reasearch laboratory in D whole nation. Making Hausa head of nasrad, wht do u think that place is, also politics?

Why must we be celebrating Igbo, or Yoruba, when we can celebrate Nigeria as a whole?
