Pls Nlers, What Is This Thing (fruit) Called In English Language? by ayobase(m): 11:13pm On Jul 10, 2013 |
Very popular in the Northen part of the Country, and commonly and popularly called "Debino" by the Hausas. It just dawned on me days back that I have been eating it for sometimes now without knowing its English name, let alone of Botanical name. Looks more like a sort of fruit....very sweet....more of Sugar!

*spits* Chai. I regretted the day I tasted that thing. The taste is nauseating. The English name should be 'Badinum' From BAD |

That's Date like someone already mentioned. Very sweet and nutritious. In the North, we eat it with groundnut. |

armyofone: That's Date like someone already mentioned. I tasted it recently but the taste was as if artificial sugar was added? The skin is very dry ...Is it really nutritious |

I think it is naturally sweet. It has some type of honey/sweety taste. No artificial sugar added. My dad's friend from Chad brought them for us. I saw it in the store here and bought it, still sweet. Lilimax: yes, many health benefits. |

Date palm. Be mindful how much of it u consume, sha. It has laxative effects, if much is consumed at once. It is even suggested one dissolves lots of it in water and drink, in place of laxative tablets. |

Mak'sjoy: Its being very sugary calls for laxative attention unless one used to candies! |

Nah, not at all lol. I don't even think it originated in Africa. It looks like something that originated in the Middle East or even Eastern Europe. It's frequent in their diets. |
