I want to buy a portable SUV for family and i am considering buying a mazda mpv. any advise as per common problems with this suv will be appreciated. Suggestions for a better suv will be welcomed. |

I don't know about the Problems but for my mom to use one as a daily car for 2Yrs without breaking down and it starting every morning I think the 2000 model or there about is very rugged. |

I have intimate knowledge of this vehicle You will need to replace the piping underneath the car with aluminum since it is prone to rust which will cause your car to lose coolant and overheat - and this vehicle does not like overheating. Once you have done this, and you use a proper mixture of both coolant and water, you will never worry about overheating with this vehicle. Also ensure both fans work to prevent overheating. Although it is said that the engine for the 2000 model doesn't have enough power for the weight of the vehicle (its a 170 hp DOHC 2.5 L Ford Duratec V6), it drives and handles like a car, which makes it fun to drive. If you want more power go for the 200 hp DOHC 3.0 L Ford Duratec V6) engine which is in the 2002 to 2006 models. Its cheaper than a Toyota Sienna because it isn't much in demand like a Sienna. Don't ever drive with the fuel going below the 1/4 mark if you don't intend to replace the fuel pump assembly. I forgot to add that while a Toyota Sienna's engine was made for economy, the engine driving the Mazda MPV was made for "need for speed". Well, what I really mean is that Porsche originally developed the engineering behind this engine before selling the same to Ford. Am sure you know Porsche's pedigree with respect to speed. on the other hand, the Cylinder heads were made by Cosworth. A little brief on Cosworth: High-performance engineering company founded in London in 1958, specialising in engines and electronics for automobile racing, mainstream automotive and defence industries, in short, they are specialist engine tuners. So if you want a sporty SUV from the 2000s, Mazda SUV might be what you are looking for BUT if you want an economical SUV from the 2000s, then Toyota Sienna might be it. I used to say get the 2000/2001 model but then I learnt something, if you love to drive at very high speeds, above 150km/hr then you need to put not 5. something liters but 6 litres in the engine because there is a problem with the 2000/2001, at such high speeds the oil does nor return to the sump as quickly as it should which you know is a major problem as far as lubrication is concerned. That issue was fixed in the 2002+ models, the drains are bigger so the oil returns faster. Just thought I should quickly add that! 1 Like |

bleass: the mazda RX8 is not powered by your normal Otto cycle engine but by a wankel type engine, so fixing by any mechanic is not possible not even a mazda mechanic. you need a professional and also try and check online forums of the RX8 and try to find a lead way to ur symptoms so you can show the mechanic the way to fix ur issue |
