Information available indicates that Major Hamza Al-Mustapha may have been Promoted to Brigadiers General. The Nigerian Army on Monday indicated that it would likely reinstate Maj. Al-Mustapha into the service following the dismissal of a murder suit against him. Al-Mustapha, the former Chief security Officer to former head of state, late Gen. Sani Abacha, regained his freedom on Friday after 14 years in detention.

A Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, discharged and acquitted him over an alleged conspiracy and the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, on June 4, 1996. The court had upturned a death sentence handed down on him on Jan. 30, 2013, by Justice Mojisola Dada, of a Lagos High Court.

The former CSO admitted to journalists that he was still in Army on Sunday during his reception by the Kano state government, a status he claimed the Appeal Court Judges also confirmed in their ruling. The Nigerian Army has confirmed the claims made by Major Hamza al-Mustpha that he is still personnel of the Nigerian Army. Col. John Agim, Chief of Staff in the Directorate of the Army Public Relations told reporters: “With regards to Mustapha’s release, well, I want to confirm that he is still in the army. “The case is going to be handled by the army administratively in line with the harmonised terms and conditions of service.’’

Thousands of people, including traders and commercial tricycle operators, thronged the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, to welcome Al-Mustapha on Sunday.

Brigadier-General? Definitely, something fishy is lurking somewhere! I foresee Al-Mustapha resigning next year to contest for an elective post (possibly as a Senator) under the platform of PDP! While at it, I think Al-Mustapha outspokeness and bluntness will be used by Jonathan to suppress the top retired Generals (Obj, IBB and co) why? He (Al-Mustapha) knew and still knows them too well! Watch out as events unfold cool

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan the smart guy. Just because Hamza Al-Mustapha was loyal to his formal boss late Abacha, he thinks Al-Mustapha will support and back him up. The man has forgotten that he, Goodluck Jonathan is not a soldier, and has no military training in any way.
Who is fooling who? Al-Mustapha is a very intelligent man to the core... He's nobody's fool! But this is very interesting seeing a mouse who freed a caged cat just to be his friend, and expect the cat to watch his back. Long live Hamza Al-Mustapha!

Abeg reinstate him, promote him to Brig Gen, then retire him sharply with full benefits. We don't want no potential coup-plotters lurking around the corridors of power.

Many gullible folks here, just put up a post with any source and you see people waggling their tongues over nothing ...

‘Why Al-Mustapha faces imminent retirement from Army’

THE Nigerian Army Monday confirmed that Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, is still a soldier in the Nigerian military.

Chief of Staff in the Directorate of the Army Public Relations, Col. John Agim, told journalists at a briefing by the Joint Security Services Public Information Committee that “with regards to Al-Mustapha’s release, well I want confirm that he is still in the Army.

“The case is going to be handled by the Army administratively in line with the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service.

“Throughout his detention and trial that lasted over 15 years, Major Al-Mustapha was receiving his full entitlements as a soldier of the Nigerian Army in the rank of Major.

And since he is a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 28, Al-Mustapha is going to be asked to apply for voluntary retirement from the Army as members of the course are already in the two-star rank of Major Generals.”

A source stated that “the best Al-Mustapha can get from the system in the circumstances is to apply for voluntary retirement or wait for one to be written to him as he has been caught by the barrier of age on rank. The issue of promotion is off the cards, as even if he gets promoted to the next rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he will still be two full senior ranks away from his course mates.”

Any man is not guilty until proven otherwise by the court of justice, everything we hear is all conspiracy theory without any fact backing it. Al Mustapha is just one piece out of the puzzle, watch out for more as the game unfolds stepwisely. Congrats jare Al Mustapha, you are a winner. He has been discharged and acquitted of every charges against him and now he is a free man.
