Lagos state governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has applied to withdraw the suit he instituted against Governor David Jonah Jang of Plateau state over the chairmanship position of the Nigeria Governors Forum.

Mr Fashola through his lead counsel, Yemi Osinbajo sought leave of an Abuja high court to allow him withdraw the legal action against Governor Jang who is a factional chairman of the NGF.

Lawyer to Governor Jang, Tayo Oyetibo however told the court that it was too late in the day for the Lagos state governor to bring such a motion, on the grounds that parties in the suit have already joined issues with each other.

Hearing of the motion has been fixed for September 9th 2013.

Governor Fashola had dragged his plateau state counterpart before the FCT high court challenging his claim to the chairmanship seat of the NGF.

Giving rise to the suit instituted against Jonah Jang of Plateau State by the Lagos state governor, was the election of a chairman to head the Nigeria Governors Forum sometime in May where the governors of the federation gathered and after a three hour meeting where an election was held too, the Director-General of the Governors Forum, A.B. Okauru announced the result of the elections, which showed that Governor Amaechi scored 19 votes, against 16 votes scored by his opponent and Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, meaning the Rivers state governor returned elected as the chairman of the NGF.

But some members of the forum led by Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom state rejected the result and described the election as a sham.

Addressing reporters after the election, Governor Akpabio claimed the ballot papers were not serialized and that Mr Amaechi did not step down prior to the election.

Governor Akpabio and 18 other governors in attendance at a meeting of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governors had taken a resolution proclaiming their support for Mr Jang as the new Chairman of the Forum.

If 19 is greater than 16, why would fashola a senior advocate of Nigeria want to withdraw a suit he filed.it can only mean one thing, he was coaxed to file the suit in a hurry without studying both the legal and political implications of his action.
An amateur action by the APC who have seen the futility of their quest.
If he wants to withdraw this suit,I will want to ask in shakespearian tongue 'was the thought drunk'.

Last bullet: Maybe jang was right afterall

Thanks Baba Fashiola 4 the move. It is better 4 you to withdraw and concentrate in your good work than to waste Lagosian money in court fighting for no just reason. Are you giving mandate to rule NGF or Lagos state. Is better our state Gov stop chasing shadows and concentrate on how to develop dia state. River state is dilapidating, no road to go at this rainy season, but Amaechi is busy chasing the wind instead of working for the people who gave him the mandate to deliver them. Baba fashiola, well done

Is Fashola afraid of what lies ahead hence making a U-turn in the middle of the road?

So, why is this very important topic not on the frontpage? If it was " fashola wins NGF suit" it would have hit frontpage since last night. Or is seun doubting the source as usual when it is not favouring APC? So, we have now all agreed that 16 is greater than 19. Fashola, your a slow learner ooo, when your mates have already learnt this political maths decades ago. Fashola you are welcome to the world of political mathematics and not classroom 1+1=2. Tinubu must be tutoring you fine. Next?

Fashola must be under threat from the Presidency. If his hands are clean or believe in Democracy. Then there's no need why he should have a rethink.

Gradually Amaechi action at the Rivers assembly is beginning to show more sane people that he is not a Gov to be respected.
Kudos to Fashola for acting fast, its not too late.

I heard that Jang is even rejecting the withdrawal. That means Fashola actually saw that they will loosing out, and the so called 19 were actually fictitious.
