For the working class couple and a Christian Home, I suggest this financial formula to make the home a heaven on earth one. Its been working for many of us.

10% of income of each partner should go for tithing to God.
10% of income of each partner to be set aside as personal savings
50% of each partners income to be given as a joint family fund or family account. Of which 20% of the 50% would be for family recurrent bills and expenditures and house upkeeps and the remaining 30% of the 50% to be used in capital expenditures of the home like buying a car, building, capital assets, shares etc
Then the last 20% of each partners income to be used by each partner at his/her own discretion without the interference of the other partner.
If this can be mutually agreed upon, financial crises in the home would be a long forgotten issue in the Christian Home.

No financial formular can work, except they both have common interest to make it work.

There is no one-cap-fits-all.

Different families have different needs in varying degrees, so no point trying to shoebox them all.

What should be the guide in marriage; competition and fault finding or complementarity and support?
