I have noticed that any little thing that happens negatively (e.g robbery), it will be attributed to poverty which will then be blamed on unemployment which people will conclude it is a result of corruption in the country. Now my question is, As the president of the country, how will you stop corruption?
It is not enough to keep saying our leaders are corrupt. Its doesn't make sense to find fault in what one is doing without voicing out a solution. We agree our leaders are corrupt. Fellow nairalanders (lets assume you are the president) how will you fight to stop corruption at all levels in the country

By rounding up all corrupt politicians, sentence them to death by hanging and confiscate all their properties. Then corruption is tackled.

Oh and don't get started with with all this inspirational bamboos that nigeria can be corruption free. Its not possible well except if God shines His light on us. grin

In the present Nigeria, a president cannot fight corruption because it takes corruption to become president.

First and foremost, immediately after taking office, is take the following steps

1 - Retire all the current army generals from every geo-political zone, send them into mandatory and comfortable retirement.

2 - Evenly promote (to encompass every region )young, hardworking and intelligent army officers to varying higher ranks.

3 - Move to amend the Nigerian constitution, enshrining in it more justice, equity and FairPlay, reducing the powers of politicians/godfathers, making them accountable to the masses, powering the judiciary to function independently without fear or favour, making it a punishable offence for retired politicians to meddle in the affairs of state, to include the death penalty for theft/embezzlement above a certain amount.

4 - Empowering the police force by providing better training, funding, increasing their salaries and setting up an independent police committee that looks into allegations of corruption and unfair practises within the police force.

5 - Drastically reduce the salary and various other bonuses of politicians, making politics less lucrative.

6 - Incoporate anti-corruption lessons into the national curricula, to impart on young minds the dangers of corruption.

7 - Strip politicians of certain rights, strip them of their diplomatic passports that every travel outside Nigeria be routed through the state department.

8 - Empower the likes of EFCC, ICPC etc giving them absolute power to pursue and ensure corrupt officials are hunted down and met with the stiffest form of justice.

Quite a long list

That's why I believe Nigeria isn't fit for a democracy at the moment. The best option for Nigeria is authoritarian rule, a dictatorship where one man rules with an iron fist.

Nice one! your ideas are genuine. Op asked a simple question, nlers could not outline how to tackle corruption after they will abusing GEj. Our youths are even clueless as their leaders.

I'll first of all not take part in it.
Have a meeting with the anti_curruption agency to view the extent of embezzelment and know culprits.
Call all guilty culprits to return 50% of loot, and keep, re-invest loot in the country.
Finally sign into law a death penalty for anyone foolish enuff to be caught involved in corruption again.
PERIOD
Re: As The President Of Nigeria, How Will You Stop Corruption??? by Nobody: 12:36pm On Jul 29, 2013
its obvious GEJ is not the only clueless one in this country. That means in the subsequent elections we are actually going to vote in a leader who cant tackle corruption?

Anybody who thinks corruption can be tackled that easily is just clueless (no offense). for God's sake, even America, a developed country has its certain degree of corruption not to talk less of this under developed country of ours. Someone said that, an Authoritarian is what we need, well that's bullshit! That with no explanation needed will only make things worse. We've seen it before haven't we? As a wise friend once replied on this thread earlier in quote "how can corruption be tackled when you need corruption to enter power in the first place? That's a great rhetorical question." I've said it and I will say it again, its only with the miracle of God we will be salvaged from this troubled country of ours. Besides, it can't even be solved under one cabinet, the time is too short for one man to rectify so much damage in our economy already. That's my opinion though. Am out!

Kai! Leave story,my friend. Simply proffer solutions to Nigeria's major problem"corruption".. Op's question is a very standard question. Just answer the damn question, stop giving flimsy excuse. If you were to answer this question in an interview, will you be answering the question by spitting the above "bull shit".
Re: As The President Of Nigeria, How Will You Stop Corruption??? by SenatorJames(m): 3:04pm On Jul 30, 2013
The problem of "CORRUPTION" cannot be solved by d current system of government where d President does not have total control of power. Ministers and appointees must pass 2ru d National assembly whom d president have no control over. 90% of d law must pass 2ru them.

Yet no one prays for Military.

Solution: Because majority of decisions is by the elected officers. I will reform electoral process by the following

- Empower INEC so that people can decide their leaders
- Cut excesses in government spending
- Reduce salary of elected officers and increase the one of Civil servant

With these all sectors of economy will be reform (Judiciary, Education, Health, Aviation, Security etc)

Last word: All these are possible provided the so called PRESIDENT did not emerged by the current currupt political system.
