I'm thinking this news is either half-backed, outright falsehood or some politrics at scheming the public to paint good image about the state.

the facts I know are these
1. Koko was penned down to be the hub of the western franchise in the Nigerian Gas Master plan.
2. The prospective investors have since voted against Koko, as dredging will be required before larger vessels, to off-take the products for export can come into Koko Port.
3. The proposed investors in the Petrochemical plant, a major investor being a company called NAGAJUNA, is intending to build a massive petrochemical plant. But the problem are in two folds with Koko location. (1) The huge cost of dredging the river and (2) the large volume of input gas coming from Chevron, which is very far away from Koko, as such will elicit another pipeline project.
4. All this added together, makes the economics not too good.
5. Investors have abandoned Koko and have moved the western hub to Ogidiben.
6. I don't see any sense in Federal government investing in Petrochemical plant, when they offloaded Eleme Petrochemical plant few years ago.
7. The Federal government can't run that business. Eleme petrochemical plant for all the years under FG hardly made it to 30% capacity. As soon as it was privatized, in less than a year, with the same staff inherited from the FG, the Eleme Petrochemical plant was running at 100% Capacity and became profitable in the 1st year.

thehomer: The federal government shouldn't be doing this. This is yet another avenue for criminals to loot the treasury. $16 billion seems to be the magic figure when government officials wish to steal.
the $16B is to be invested by private sector not govt. so fg officials stealing the money doesnt come in

0mOnnakoda25: In many countries in Europe methane IS domestic cooking gas !!! So both LPG or Methane may be called Domestic cooking gas

Huh?? Methane is natural gas, not cooking gas. A few countries in Europe use it for cooking, if it is piped directly into the home. But the appliances that can work with methane have been carefully configured by the manufacturers to do so.

In Africa, methane is NOT classified as domestic cooking gas, oh! Unless, you want to blow up your house.... undecided
