Anybody following the current conflict in GAZA? It isn't a pleasant sight at all. I'm following the conflict on Aljazeera. True, Aljazeera is pro-Arab ( anyway all news stations report the news with different political interests ), but the sights are quite disturbing. Anyway, we got our own problem here in nigeria to deal with. |

Have we ever thought of purchasing the jf-17 thunder, because I heard it is a good plane and comes at a reasonable price. Even Myanmar plans to purchase it

Henry120: just incase. You can see how events happen very quickly in our modern world. Some other countries that are not as rich as us and dont even have security threats as great as ours, have Air defence systems. What do we have to protect our skies really? |

craziebone: We have the Roland ADS (although an obsolete system), and many modern AAA in service. The indians are also helping us modernise our AD structure,a and we could possibly have received AD batteries from them since we have completed TRACON. Please read. "India and Nigeria were collaborating to boost the West African country’s air defences, Indian High Commissioner Mahesh Sachdev has said. Both countries had a long standing defence cooperation, shared values and shared history, Xinhua quoted Sachdev as saying at a forum in Kaduna state." http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/indian-air-force/36402-india-help-boost-nigeria-s-air-defences.html This is a 2012 article. information generally is very hard to come by in our country, and this sort of Information would most likely never be made public. |

Ibnsultan: the UN needs to stand up to its responsibility If you're talking about a military intervention then it would never work, if the Tiny Apartheid Army 'SADF' here in S.A was able to hold of and beat the cr'ap out of much larger Armies from more than 3 different countries equipped with the latest Russian and West German weapons for more that 20years, then just imagine what a "Super Power" like Israel would do to U.N soldiers. Anyway the U.N doesn't give a S'Hit about anything, the U.N is just a joke

craziebone: hwhats the security situation like in the great lake region? Why did M7 buy those sukhois? Is Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania worried about that aqcuisition? Does Nigeria need an S300? You know how neighbouring countries are always trying to outshine each other? Same case in east-africa(EastAfrica as in Kenya,Uganda,Tanzania, rwanda and to some extent S.Sudan). Militarily, Uganda has always had an ambition of bieng some sort of military leader of the region, from the time of Idi Amin to current M7 and they have never been shy to to get thire hands dirty(militarily). Thus causing some sort of arms spree in the region in buying weapons, just to keep each other in check.(I speak for Kenya )When m7 aqiured the Sokhs, Kenya did not have an answer for it because of the obvios monetary issues, so intead, The intelligence agency advised the government to upgrade radar technology around the country and some Surface-to-Air Missile system (bateries) were aquired to counter threats from the air that the f-5 fighter jets could not handle. when you talk of ethiopia iin the great lakes region, its not in east-Africa but its Eastern-Africa(big difference), there Migs are probably capable of handling themselves although theire restrictive mode of government and media usually leaves very little info on current status or latest aquisition on on defence budgets... |
