Install a New App Launcher
Your phone’s app launcher controls your desktop, lock screen apps menu, and other critical parts of the UI. Though every Android phone comes with its own preloaded app launcher, you can install a third party launcher that will not only change the look and feel of your device, but also speed the time it takes it to navigate around the OS. There are many different launchers available in the app store, but we found Lightning Launcher Home to be among the fastest and easiest to use.
To use Lightning Launcher or another launcher of your choice:

Install Lightning Launcher from the Google Play store.
Tap the Home Button. A menu appears asking you which launcher you want.
Select Lightning Launcher and Tap Always.

Check the internal memory space. A low internal memory might be the reason behind any severe lag that your phone is experiencing. Move your media (pictures, mp3 files, videos, and so forth) to the external memory, usually an SD card. Some low-end and mid-range smartphones might already have low internal memories, in which case, moving your files to the SD card won't help that much.
Manage Your Widgets
Android users love their widgets but it defiantly hampers your phone performance and speed. There are plenty of widgets which make your device to run slow you can try it for yourself and judge. Live widgets which need to be updated on a regular basis like the weather widgets causes your Android Smartphone to run very slow than some stationary widgets. Therefore we will strictly recommend you to keep a watch on your widgets specially live widgets which need to be updated very frequently and you will see the result that your Smartphone is running very smoothly and performance will also be increased.

If your phone is a bit older, or it's just feeling sluggish, there are a number of things you can do to make it feel a little smoother. Trying a new home screen launcher is always good for a bit of speed, as is lowering your number of home screens and ditching all those widgets. If you're rooted, you can even overclock or install a custom ROM for even more speed. And, if you really want to get technical, there are some advanced settings you can play with to eke every bit of speed out of your phone possible.
