Former Military President, IBB replies OBJ:

"The young generations of Nigeria leaders are not failures!" - IBB

Now let us quickly scan through the list!

Gowon was barely out of his diapers when he gun his way to the state House at 32 years of age. No wonder, he was confused at the sight of so much money and he made that verbal gaffe to the effect that the problem of Nigeria is not money but how to spend it.

Murtala Muhammed showed flashes of brilliance but his reign was cut short. No thanks to Col Dimka, of unblessed memory!

Enters Baba Iyabo on his first missionary journey. Obasanjo was barely in his 40's when leadership was thrust upon him. He took the country on a merry go round and handed over to a civilian regime, after conducting a controversial election which has become his only legacy! Jegudujera election, incase you don't know. That was during his first missionary journey as a khakicrat!

Alhaji Shehu Shagari presided over what can best be regarded as the foundation of a corrupt Nigeria, where wanton looting of state resources was the main preoccupation of the lootocrats in government!

The defining moment in Nigeria history was when General Muhammadu Buhari, also in his 40s sent the second republic lootocrats parking and hauled them into long jail terms after a military putsch. The regime revived the culture of discipline as it lunched a war against indiscipline (WAI). However, the gains of that effort was short lived as General Babangida and his gang sent Buhari packing after a military coup.

IBB also in his 40s proceeded to institutionalize corruption as the official way of doing business in Nigeria. He released all the corrupt looters from jail and returned all their seized assets obtained with dividends from corrupt practices. He took the country on a merry go round democratic makossa dance. Under him, we had a diarchy, that is a form of government with civilian and military ruling the country. He annulled the June 12 presidential election adjudged to be the freest and fairest election in the nation's chequered history, won by MKO Abiola. He was forced to step aside and what did he do?

He planted Ernest Shonekan, in his 60s as interim head of state. The government never got it bearing before a court pronounced the contraption an illegality!

The court ruling was the signal Abacha
, another General also in his 40s and a long standing coupist was waiting for. Abacha was famous for announcing three military putsch after the usual martial music. His regime was notorious for the institutionalization of state sponsored terrorism as a tool for wiping dissidents into line. Many critics of his government were fell by state bullets bought with taxpayers money. He was in the process of transmuting from a khakicrat to a civilian president after he coarse the five leprous political parties he registered to adopt him as their sole presidential candidate. His reign of impunity was brought to an end when he suddenly dropped dead!

Enters Abdulsalami Abubakar in his 50s and a General of the Nigerian Army. He was in such a hurry to handover power and return to his hilltop mansion in Minna to reunite with his godfather and neighbour, the gap toothed Maradona. He looted the treasury and organized a sham election, handed over to Obasanjo who was just fresh from prison and completely bankrupt!

Obasanjo was in his 60s when he commended his second Missionary journey. This is the defining moment of Nigeria's history as she was a pariah of nation. He had some flashes of brilliance initially but sooner than later he lost focus and was airborne most times during his second Missionary journey! Looting of state resources from Bornu to Alausa, Yenegoa to Ado Ekiti, Lokoja to Asaba, and what have you was the order of the day! He set up an anti graft agency which later on became his attack dog for perceived enemies. Sham election of the do or die stock became the order of the day. He attempted a constitutional amendment to grant him a third missionary journey. This was defeated at the National Assembly after heavy inducement of lawmakers to grant him his request. He was viscerally pained, and to punish Nigerians he organized a sham election and handed over the country to two men who ordinarily are best suited as classroom teachers in a village school with classes under the shade of a baobab tree.

I don't need to bore you with the tales of Yar'Adua and Goodluck Jonathan as the ordoriferous cacophony oozing out from that regime still invades our nostrils.

At this juncture, the Ossussu Bishop make bold to paraphrase the self confess Evil Genius thus: "We the Leaders have failed the Nigerian people. "

Soni Akoji, the Bishop of Ossusu. Parish, wrote from Abuja.
