2. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:
• Risk assessments remain an essential tool for effective decision-making in the industry and some aspects of risk assessments are legal requirement in many countries.

• Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment promotes a pro-active approach towards effective and safe Facilities Design, Construction, Commissioning and Operations.

• Hazard Identification(HAZID/HAZOP) and Risk Assessments(RA) are integral to the attainment of Asset Integrity objectives in the Oil and Gas industry.

• Participants will be exposed to fundamental principles and practice of HAZID and RA in a practical format that enhances functional application of knowledge for Engineers, Operators and Technicians.

• Operation Health and Safety management(HSE), serving as a valuable tool to the organisation in order to elevate the standard(s) of safety, meeting legal compliance and protecting persons from the hazards that they may potentially be exposed to. Effective Risk Assessments also protect Asset/Infrastructure, the environment and promotes a positive corporate image for organizations.

4. COURSE OUTCOMES
• On completion of the course, participants will have knowledge and understanding of the scope and impact of the hazard identification and risk assessment oil and gas processing facilities, including the legal and regulatory compliance requirements that may be imposed upon the companies for the completion of applicable studies and assessments.

• Participants shall be equipped with the knowledge and skill to identify and assess work related hazards and participate in baseline and continuous Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment activities.

• Participants will be able to identify cost-effective controls for identified hazards and risks guided by a structured risk acceptance criterion.

Specifically, at the end of this course participants will be able to:

• Explain the difference between Hazards and Risk.
• Understand the various Hazard Identification tools and techniques and their optimized application.
• Prepare for HAZOPs, HAZID and Risk Assessments.
• Conduct JHAs, Checklist and What-If Analysis.
• Initiate remedial action for hazards identified and risks assessed.
• Participate in HAZOP and HAZID Sessions.
• Understand the HAZOP/HAZID Processes.
• Learn how to steward HAZOP/HAZID Action items to closure.
