MIXED ECONOMY.

Combination of Capitalism and Socialism.
Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by size38: 11:52am On Aug 23, 2013
Nigeria is neither practicing socialism nor capitalism. What nigeria is practicing cannot be found in any English Lexicon. The economic system I feel nigeria is practicing is called " Lootocracy" that is, mindless stealing of public funds by public office holders

Nigeria is practicing a form of fascism.

This time , it is not race that is used to divide and rule but ethnicity and religion.

mr_king: bro I'm not unmindful of the †ђξ fact that we partly practice a mixed economy! But like I said earlier, I refuse to go with the Bandwagon effect! bro wake up to reality! And forget what's wriiten on Google! Or wikipedia! Anyone can write what ever he feels on †ђξ Internet! Ξνεяγтнïทg about NIGERIA smells CAPITALISM! What is being practiced here is like 80% capitalism and 20% socialism! So do you call this a mixed economy? Go back and read all you know about capitalism and socialism! Then come back here and engage me!! Every sector in Nigeria smells capitalism! Even in our churches today! You still find exploitation! Where in †ђξ world do you have to pay to Get Government jobs? What can be worst than that? Go to other countries like I mentioned Malaysia previously! And see †ђξ practical definition of socialism! So bro! As a social scientist! You have to be independently minded! You have to stand out! And don't believe all you read on wikipedia!! You should have †ђξ ability to question some things! And don't just assimilate all you read!! Enough said!!

Good stuff. Believing everything you read without examining it critically is almost as bad as not reading at all. (see Christianity, Islam, etc.) angry

I disagree with people that says we are practicing a mixed economy, we are sliding fast into absolute capitalism. The government has been selling all our collective assets to private individuals (cronies). The few assets left are the four refineries(which we are benefiting little from), NTA and FRCN, the airports, federal roads (some of which will be concessioned), the sea ports( heard some had been concessioned), the federal universities, polythechnics, and colleges of education (they have been commercialized), the newly revived railways, and a few others. Even the federal hospitals are being run like private concerns inspire of their high fees and poor services. So what social services is the government providing its citizens to have some semblance of socialism.

Nigeria is not practicing any of the world known philosophies.
Remember that the majority of the Northern people practice Sheriah, monarchy, and a leap service capitalism.
The south east practices beastialism/animalism and a bit of capitalism.
The most of south western Nigerians practice socialism and animalism.
And the president of the country practices individualism/totalitarianism influenced by religious and ethnic bigotry.
We are living just like that in this Country.

As a student who have studied the entity called NIGERIA, Nigeria do not practice CAPITALISM nor SOCIALISM rather Nigeria practices OPPRESSIONISM, CABALISM and GHANA-MUST-GOISM. When you add them up, it is sufficient to say that we practice CONFUSIONISM. I rest my case

Actually, Nigeria is practising mixed economy, tilted more towards socialism (very large public sector) before, but now leaning more to capitalism.

Pre-IBB(pre-independence, thru first republic, Murtala, Buhari up to IBB): Mixed, tilting towards socialism

Post-IBB(esp Obj): Mixed, with greater capitalist bend).
Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by curfew: 12:28pm On Aug 23, 2013
if you want to know something, you start by asking relevant question about that thing.

what is socialism and what is capitalism? how is nigerian wealth distributed among the people. who owns the means of production? what are the responsibilities of nigerian govenment to the people? you wey dey write nonsense, if you don't have a job, who would you depend on? etc...?

nigeria is raw capitalist state, a corrupt one indeed.
Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by Nobody: 12:29pm On Aug 23, 2013
In any case, there is no perfectly capitalist or socialist economy anywhere.

Nigeria is essentially capitalist....sure we were taught that we practised a mixed economy back in school. The reality on ground, however, is that we are almost completely capitalist, with government holding on to a few vestiges the private sector either isn't interested in handling or just plain cannot be handling. Of course, there are other forms of economy that can be carved out of combinations or modifications of capitalism and socialism and what Nigeria is practicing falls under one of such hybrids/modifications. However, whatever it is is closer to the the capitalist end of the economic form spectrum.

Nigeria from my own point of view practices all;i.e no particular one/any.
Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by Appliedmaths(m): 1:02pm On Aug 23, 2013
The Nigerian economy defies economic laws and theories, the common law of demand would turn out to go the other way. In my own opinion I would stick to the 'mixed economy concept' but note that we are running a combination of 2-3 economic systems.

Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by Beync(f): 1:14pm On Aug 23, 2013
Mixed economy
Thou in recent times
Nigeria is gradually moving towards capitalist economy but yet to get there or may not get there. becos there are some essential services that need to be provided by the govt and such services cannot be left in the hands of private individuals.
Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by GENTLETEE(m): 1:20pm On Aug 23, 2013
A good question! And where are the so called economic egg heads to answer that question?
Re: Is Nigeria Practising Socialism Or Capitalism? by wirinet(m): 1:26pm On Aug 23, 2013
The question is can we be said to be practicing capitalism while resources are stilled controlled by the government? Should not land and resources be in private hands since they are expected to control means of production?

Hogwash.. Nigeria claims to practice a mixed economy Socio-Capitalism. But in my own opinion, the FG leans strongly towards capitalism with a sprinkle of socialist policies. The states choose whichever system suits them, the southwest except lagos is socialist in its leanings. Osun is full blown socialism. The north is Socialist too by tradition, some states there even organise weddings for citizens. The southeast is capitalist (I think). Everywhere else is inbetween.
