Thousands of Muslims rallied peacefully in northern Nigeria on Saturday to demand the return of Egypt's Islamist former president Mohamed Morsi, ousted by the military early last month.

Around 4,000 demonstrators carrying banners and placards chanted pro-Morsi songs and slogans outside a mosque in northern Nigeria's biggest city, Kano, an AFP reporter witnessed. Organisers put the number of protesters at 5,000.

Egypt has been rocked by political unrest since Morsi's ouster in a July 3 military coup after massive protests against him.

"We call for the immediate release of president Mohamed Morsi and all political prisoners being detained by the illegitimate Egyptian authorities," protest leader Sheikh Abubakar Mujahid told reporters.

"Morsi must return to his position as president."

Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation of 160 million people, is evenly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.

It is grappling with a four-year insurgency by Islamist group Boko Haram mainly in the country's northeast.

The violence has claimed some 3,600 lives, including killings by security forces, which launched a military offensive in May to try to end the insurgency.

Taking panadol for another person's headache while you are yet to treat your cancer! SMH!

Instead of them to protest against boko haram and every other terrorist organisation in Nigeria they are wasting their energy on another country's situation.

Nigeria has no democracy, no good roads, no electricity, no security no health service, no education and no social justice, corruption is rife, people can hardly feed themselves, amongst many problems.

Instead of protesting about the problems in Nigeria, these mumu are more interested in protesting about the political democracy in Egypt. undecided

Rubbish and misleading, and Shia peole will never rally in support of Morsi who is a leading Sunni Figure, get your facts. Check googles and compare Hizbollah flags with the ones in the picture

Some peoples brains have been washed with ariel. Why protest about what is happening in Egypt when your region has been under siege? They should be ashamed of themselves, only recently 44 worshipers were murdered in the mosque while they were praying, why didn't they protest? Hopeless hypocrisy!!!!

Instead of them to protest against boko haram and every other terrorist organisation in Nigeria they are wasting their energy on another country's situation.
why would they protest against the Islamic sects when they are the real terrorist destroying the nation with backwardness and ignorance. They're protestating over a Country far away fro them that they don not directly benefit from the country in any form.

They want that same country(Egypt) to place back in power a man(Morsi) who wanted to introduce radical and extremist Islamic doctrines into his government. The citizens disagreed to Morsi's fanaticsm and chased him out of power.Who are they(nigerian northerners) to protest what has been made by citizens of Egypt.it shows how brainwashed some Islamic Cleric has indoctrinated their minds with evil propaganda.

They enjoy slavery all in the name of Islamic laws.which Egypt doesn't want to accept. They are now carrying banners up and down like half of them know the definition fo Government or Democracy.

Gosh,Nigeria is a sorry case at times.

Take a look at these bittered fellas on here. You've allowed your jealousy to precipitate into hatred.
What you seeing only attest to the beauty and unity in Islam. All muslims worldwide are considered brothers and sisters of one another. The more reason why Islam remains the only religion whose adherents(regardless of nationality, race, sex, background, continents and what have you) have a ligual-franca.I cant greet any muslim from any part of the world by doing the "Salamah" and he/she will surely reply. You know what thats called, its called BROTHERHOOD. Yet to see any other faith that can lay claim to such feat.

The words of The Prophet Muhammad (Hadith) goes thus-
"He is not a muslim,he who is not concerned about the affairs of other muslims"
"If you cant correct a wrong with your actions,do so with your voice,if you cannot also do that, then correct it with your mind, for thats the weakest of faith"

These people have only shown concern for their fellow muslims in hardahip and also doing whats in their capacity to debunk the atrocities committed in Egypt. Its a peaceful protest and everyone has got aright to do so.

On what grounds do you compare this with the Boko Haram issues. I know fully well that everybodt(muslims and christians) are victims of BHs persecution, had anyone come out to protest from both ends.I guess safety first innit.
BH is a national problem that had emanated from leadership failure, inordinate political ambition, illiteracy and underdevelopment.Everyone unanimously know and agree that BHs acts are wrong, inhumane and atrocious, should there still be need for protest if everyone attests to the aforementioned fact...or should i assume that only a protest will convince you that they are not in support of BH. please come on. A protest is convened where you feel what you oppose, others support and not where you you all take the same stance.NO ONE IS IN SUPPORT OF BH.
A protest against BH itself might not be security wise because these hell bound BH go back to attack communities that have connived with security forces to clamp down on them.
The protest up there in my own opinion is just an exprrssion of feelings where it can be expressed. Its a welcome development.God bless ye all

WE ALL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM IN NIGERIA AND BY ALLAHS GRACE WE WILL CONQUER.

Please kindly do away with sentiments whatsoever.
