Abdullahi MaiBasira, PDP National Youth Leader by ochejoseph(m): 12:37am On Sep 01, 2013
The main talking point after the PDP special convention on Saturday was the staged walk-out by the former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, and seven governors elected on the PDP platform.

Not much has been said about the winners of the elections themselves, mainly because they had all been anointed a day before and in reality, most members of the former executive were simply returned.

However there were a few new names like Abdullahi Hussaini Maibasari, who emerged as the new national youth leader of the PDP after defeating Baba Wakili by 1547 votes to 421 votes.

At age 30, Maibasari is half the age of the former occupant of that office and the PDP must have realised that the resignation of the former youth leader was a rare opportunity to correct that former appointment which attracted consistent criticism at the time. To many Nigerians, it was simply disgraceful that the PDP chose to elect a man over 60 as its youth leader in its last convention.

Maibasari was before his election yesterday, the speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, a position he was elected to just eight months ago.

Read his official citation as speaker below:

Born in Minna, the Niger State capital on 30th January 1983, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Hussaini MaiBasira was elected second Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament on Wednesday, December 14th 2012.

A dynamic and highly focused young man with a passion for sustaining a holistic sustainable development of an integrated Nigeria, young Abdullahi attended Air force Primary School, Victoria Island Lagos and later the prestigious Kings College Lagos for his Senior School Certificate which he obtained in 1999.

For his University education, he proceeded to Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension in 2006. It was in the University that his leadership credentials began to manifest as he was elected Member to the Students Representative Assembly in 2003 and later in 2004, at the young age of 21, President of the Students Union Government.

While as President, MaiBasira is credited with entrenching a decentralized students leadership in the University, proved his capability to mobilize and maintain public opinion and opening up the political space for greater participation of all students. Still at the University, MaiBasira was also Grand Law Commander (Junior Chambers International) in addition to other numerous positions and responsibilities.

MaiBasira was called to National Youth Service where he was Platoon Leader, Camp Corps Representative and President both for Charity Community Development Group and NIPC Corpers Forum, Abuja.

A naturally interesting personality, who is tireless in the affairs of men, Abdullahi MaiBasira has worked in NIPC, Abuja, Niger State Due Process Office, Niger State PPP Office and is currently with the Niger State Development Company and was last appointed Senior Special Assistant to the Chief Servant, Executive Governor of Niger State Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu on Public Private Partnerships.

Due to MaiBasira’s zest for knowledge, he began a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics in 2009 in Federal University of Technology Minna which he obtained in 2011. Besides this, he has also attended several trainings such as Student Delegate to the Conference on Nation Building (2004), Workshop on National Draft Policy on PPP (2009), Youth Delegate to National Youth Conference on Anti – Corruption (2008), Leadership and Good Governance (2010), PPP: Successful Implementation for Strategic Economic Regeneration in States and Local Governments, Certified Workshop at the International Institute of Investment Promotion at Baden Switzerland (2010).

In the short period MaiBasira has served as Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, he has been received by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Aminu Waziri, Governors of Osun and Kaduna State and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDG. A strong advocate for national security and unity and youth empowerment as an avenue for economic regeneration, the Speaker has made as the centre piece of his goals, the introduction and creation of State Youths Parliaments in all States of the Country in order to encourage discussions by the Youths on issues of local, regional and national importance.

The Speaker, Rt. Honourable Abdullahi MaiBasira married in 2009 to Mrs. Rabi Sa’adu MaiBasira whom he met in 2003 and they are blessed with a son, Muhammad.

A widely travelled Nigerian, the Speaker has visited 28 states and other countries.

Slowly but steadily the PDP is being transformed and reformed away from the COUPISTs who hijacked it in 1998 from the founders- members of G-34, led by Dr. Alex Ekwueme who stood up to late General Sani Abacha towards the end of his bloody regime.

I hope the transformation continues at greater speed now that some of those who are used to SIMPLY SHARING our commonwealth aka the national cake also know as Niger Delta oil revenue have VOLUNTARILY stepped aside from PDP just as IBB stepped aside as MAXIMUM ruler after he annuled the June 12 elections.

However there were a few new names like Abdullahi Hussaini Maibasari, who emerged as the new national youth leader of the PDP after defeating Baba Wakili by 1547 votes to 421 votes.

We don't "think", we KNOW and we have SEEN. Keep living in denial. If they manage to resolve the crises, that's another thing, but in the meantime there are two factions, period.
